Lute

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.

This model was made using Oinerwinkle's Vertex Modifier and the Primitives. It was extremelly simple to make, but I felt like there was a lack of musical instrument attachments on thehive. So I submitted this one. It could use some work, and whatnot, but I felt it wouldn't hurt to submit.

Hope you find it useful for some bard class or somethin. Credits to Titanhex. Really, that's about it.

Edit: Fixed the wrapping and took some people's advice to fix other things as well. I'm actually still working on the wrapping too. Might have to look into the string wrapping, it's a bit goofy.

It looks ok, But some parts are incredibly inefficient. There is only need for 1 segment for the neck of the instrument, while there are multiple. Also, the "Nubs" On the head it have a giant polycount for their signifigance. Maybe use planes for those parts?

Yeah, for some reason when you upload to hive, it doesn't let you choose the name of the zip file or somethin. Names it the base file it started out with. In this case, I started with Oinerwinkles Sphere, 8 points.

I think to change it I'd have to change something I don't know how to change.

As for the darker color of the lute, it is cause of the wood, and cause of the wrapping. I'll take a look at the wrapping to find a better way to do it, so it's lighter. Was the only ingame texture I could find that had something I could pull off as strings.

Misha, I think you're right. The neck does need some slimming. Maybe could be longer too. I'll do some modifying soon.

As for the wrapping, yes, it does suck. Gonna play around with it some more. My wrapping skills have been non-existential up to this point. Course it's the only lute on WC3 (How the hell is that possible??) and it should at least be somewhat usable.

I know somewhere I can lower the poly count, and will likely do so.

Alright, I just now fixed the wrapping on the strings and reuploaded. There's less of a fade from dark to light.

I didn't want to use a custom skin, so I'm using an ingame texture.

I could also redo the wrapping so that it's one plain, yellowish wooden color. But I think it makes the model look really really flat.

it might just be on my end, but when i used this as an attachment it looked more like the guy had punched through the bottom of it, rather than holding it. could you possibly move the attachment point a bit lower down?

Open the model up with Magos' model editor, hit Edit > Model Properties, type the name in there, then save.

Yeah, I still need to figure out how to place the attachment point on it. I think I have an idea, but I'll have to look at some other attachments first. Will fix soon though.
The origin is where it gets held.
