Review - Green Greens
(Version February 20th 2024)
Synopsis: Green Greens is a two-player melee map featuring the Village tileset. The environmental detailing is decent and offers visually pretty battlegrounds for a melee match.
Map Aesthetics: Visually the map looks nice. It's clear and the attention to detail is very pleasant, while not too obstructive. The Village thematics are present here and there, really utilizing the tileset well. Good job. One aspect that brings the visual level down is the very synthetic placement of trees and the look of the forests could really improve if all the trees were not aligned so perfectly - this would also improve game quality.
Map Layout: The map layout is simple with the impassable ring layout. The layout leaves very little room for strategic gameplay opportunities with the expansions being so open-access and there's very little players can do to fend for themselves in that regard. The creep camp placement is acceptable, though quite repetitive, and doesn't bring any extra flavor to the gameplay.
Neutral Objectives: Creep camps fit the map very well in terms of thematics and their power level seems acceptable - some of the camps (Level 16 Sasquatch Camp and Expansion Gold Mine Camps) are quite strong for such a linear map. The Granite Golem should drop a stronger item.
Map Gameplay: The map offers a decent melee game. Some aspects could be improved on (tree placement and open areas on top of hills) but it's acceptable. The layout could be more unique or intuitive but there's nothing wrong with the ordinary approach.
Recommendations:
Fix the open areas on hilltops (Pathing Blockers can be useful if you want to keep the 'openness'.)
Improve the work on some creep camp strength - try to hit the sweet spot where the game flows smoothly without having to gather and wait for more strength to challenge the next camps.
