I've noticed that there is hardly any activity in the modeling section.

Are there any things any of you can think of that might help to increase activity? Would contests help, or more modeling tutorials? Or are people just not interested in modeling?

Let me know.

Taking the time, I can deal with, that's just helping and tutorials.

Programs, the only one I can't supply is Max.

Well, you could always take requests XD I have several btw :P PM if anyone is interested ;) I have all the models, except only 1 of them is in mdx and it's missing a skin, another is in lightwave, and a third is in max but it's also missing a skin... That's basically all I need :P All converted to .mdx with textures and ready for import

I was just thinking the same. Someone to take requests :). That will get activity up, though it will be request spamming, but who knows, some of them could get frustrated in waiting and start modeling them selves :)

You never know :P I have 3DSMax 8, but since it doesn't support Art Tools i'm out of luck. I have a Gmax WC3 modding pack that I should upload here, it's very, very useful for Gmax modellers. the problem is, my request is for the map in a month contest, so instead of taking the time to learn to do it myself, I am in need of haste so I get someone else to do it for me :)

It is always possible to make requests, but there isn't a designated person to take them on.

So feel free to request (in your own thread) but I can't guarantee someone can do it for you. If it is something light, however, I might be of assistance from time to time.

And brad, keep on topic please, don't advertise here.

Not advertising, using as an example XD Maybe a requests subforum? You could set it up say so that a member could post a request for a model/skin/etc and another member would volunteer to do the request for them. You could have rules to make sure the requester gives rep and that when someone accepts the request they actually get it done etc. Would give some modellers who have some free time some ideas and it would help members with their skinning/modelling needs.

also i suggest you change the name of that tools thread to "3d Modeling tools" since the word "tools" and "modeling" is what a person would first look for if they were looking for modeling tools :P

and requests..like minishops? dam... iv done that before and it sucked..

i suggest you gather some of the modelers at wc3c or wc3sear and try to spread the news about this place.

Personally.. i don't feel like getting involved much with this section since:
1. don't have anything much to show
2. suck at making understandable tutorials
3. Lazy
4. To scared and ashamed to post a model gallery.
5. not sure...Id rather watch and reply on peoples work.

You of all people shouldn't be scared and ashamed to show your 3D work in this section. Please do.

And requests are just..requests. People say "I need a cow model!" Someone goes "I made one for you!." End of story.

Agreed, though I was hoping to see at least a few from this site already.

Hey Nas, good to see you here.

But please don't spam in my section, ya' hear?

Check out wc3campaigns, Jigrael just made a fantastic tutorial on modeling in 3DsMax, and UVMapping too.

I think a tutorial on how to import your models into WE from 6-7-8-9 or just the two latest 8-9 versions of 3ds max would help a lot.

I think it's a good thing that the Hiveworkshop takes over wc3sear but check the map forum there is a lot of useless junk.

Is there a plugin for max to mdl? I've never seen one, although it would be very very handy. I was under the impression that modelling was limited to max5 and art tools, milkshape and gmax....

There is the DeX script which Gmax also uses, i know i works with version 7 but I'm not sure about 8-9 ! But it dosn't makes any errors like the art tools, so a tutorial on how to use it with a check list on the most common errors.

All real men use Milkshape.

For only €/$25, you are in no position to argue - if you can afford Warcraft and its expansion, you can afford Milkshape.

Except that it has no EULA there for it can legally do whatever the hell it wants to your system. I don't think so. Gmax is free and it's trustworthy. 3DsMax is far far far better but then it is also expensive.

Uh, EULA restricts what you can do with software, not what the software is allowed to do to your system?

Hence the term "End User License Agreement"?

GMax is free, but 99% of the exporters are dud. Max is out of your price range.

Milkshape, however, is within your price range, the exporter is flawless, and it's very easy to learn and work with. It's also specifically designed for precisely the kind of models Warcraft deals with.

On the internet, nobody is trustworthy. You might have downloaded the Oinkertools, Magos' Model Editor perhaps? What makes Oink or Magos more trustworthy than the creator of Milkshape? You even get a 30-day trial, so you can see for yourself how it fails to "legally do whatever the hell it wants to your system".

Software, FULL STOP, can't LEGALLY do anything it wants to your system. You sir, have the wrong end of the stick.

How bout some tutorials yes i may completley suck at modleing but i still check in every once and awhile so tutorials might help a lot of people.

I can safely say that Milkshape has done no harm at all to my system ever; neither during the 30 day trial or during my long-term use of the program.

So, well, you can miss out on all the easy modelling fun if you like, because you read a single crack-pot report, and choose to ignore the thousands of happy users like me.

And I repeat: any program you ever use carries these same "risks." Hell, Windows does a lot of crap nobody wants it to, and I don't see them all on Linux.

Yessir, I will continue missing out on easy modelling for the professionalism of 3DsMax, which I continue to enjoy, for the sake of my systems health. You just critisize it because you like it. Other programs are bound by an agreements that can stop it from destroying your system. The programs that don't have or follow those agreements are usually caled 'malware'. Milkshape might not be at the moment, but the risk that it presents, you signing away your computer for Milkshape to do what it will, is ascary thought. What if in that next version the programmer decides to add a registry virus so if anyone opens regmon while Milkshape is running it will corrupt your registry? This would avoid tampering but it is extremely unethical in my opinion.

Haha, I think not as I've been using illegal software for years and years and years and Microsoft hasen't done crap all against me.

Yeah, illegal software and warez is like inverse lottery, you gain something every time, but you have a 0,000001% chance to lose everything

If you are the kind of programmer that will want to ruin peoples' systems, a poxy legal agreement will not stop you.

Ack, you're obviously a faggot, I'm going to stop arguing.
I see you haven't changed a bit since modelers inc...
