Yeah, because 3ds max is very expensive. Last year, I was using gmax, but the problem was on mapping. 3ds max is still superior in mapping and all aspects of modelling, but really costs too much. For warcraft 3 models, you just need magos and mdlvis and some primitives in mdl or mdx file extension. A plane primitive is very useful for advanced modelers but for beginners, you need some boxes, spheres, and other already 3d made primitives.
