I'm trying to make a spell similar to inferno's summoning, in the sense that it targets a circular area and summons the unit in the middle. So I just went ahead and used Inferno to base the spell off of.

Problem is, I can't stop it from destroying trees.

How instead should I go about making this ability? It's important the AoE displays on precast! I tried with other abilities, but it doesn't display as AoE, or I can't figure out how to make it properly display as AoE. I need the area of effect displayed in to help players understand exactly what the radius of the unit's sight is.

You mean this?

I took the screenshot from the ability in that map file.
