ok, i can give u some techniques here:
lets say u choose item collector, if ur enemy has bought few insane items, u can cast the item steal ability to steal its item, if the stealing is successful, u may use the advantage of the item stolen against the enemy. u can also summon item carrier and use it to cast "item twist" that can turn enemy's item into cheese. ofcoz the item carrier can be used to carry those dropped item at the ground if ur hero inventory is full. u can use the item carrier to buy item fom ur base and carry to u since its speed is very fast. by combining all these abilities, item collector can be a super good hero. if u dint use any of these abilities, item collector is just a stupid hero with low melee.
try to combine all the abilities inside the hero, and u will find out that can be easily used to kill enemy heroes hehe.. good luck!
