The world within which this role-play resides - while fictional - bears a very strong resemblance to the physical structure of our own. The setting is futuristic or 'sci-fi' and Humanity is at the peak of it's game, having survived everything from nuclear fallouts, several ice ages and a bucket load of apocalypses - they just can't help but push their luck even further. A group of military scientists known as BEERA (Biological Enhancement Engineering Research Association) developed a method to produce super human soldiers, through a variety of gene therapy and chemical inducement programs. The idea was to amplify certain traits and nullify unrequired traits. Soldiers would benefit from increased mass, rapid tissue repair and an unnatural affinity to taking orders, whereas general intelligence, emotions and the rest could be sacrificed.

When the first Orcs matured, they proved to be everything that was expected of them. They stood tall, weighed in at near three times the burliest human and took life with ease, without guilt and most importantly without question. It wasn't long of course before we grew cocky, overconfident and the political parties practically threw money at BEERA. Next up was a race of tall, beautiful, elegant, unimaginably intelligent and compassionate beings whom they dubbed the Elves. The elves however, proved problematic. like the Orcs they could reproduce naturally and while many accepted the new sub-breed into our society with open arms, many more grew ever jealous of their good grace, soft tongues and heightened intelligence.

As the elven numbers grew so did their confidence and the fear in the hearts of humanity. While they were not warlike in nature, we humans cared little for compassion or equality with 'sub-breeds' and it wasn't long before the Orcish Legions were set to hound the poor creatures sending them fleeing into self-exile.

Many years passed and the race is believed to be extinct - but the elves live on, or so were led to believe, for a third and final sub-breed arose mysteriously during the hunting of the fey. Small, quick and agile they stood shorter than a human by almost half, had a strong affinity for technology - Yet they bore green skin and a insatiable lust for war. We dubbed this new race Goblins, believing them to be the Elves hidden answer to our Humanity's orcs, a 'superior' warrior race.

At any rate, that's how the legend goes... No one really knows who came first or... how they came to be.

BIOGRAPHY


Humans are the self-proclaimed fore-bearers of humanoid existence. They boast the largest population, military might and gross technological development across the world and often prove themselves to be the most adaptable race, able to commit to almost any profession with ease.

In the past humanity has always been rightly feared and shunned, known for their greed, arrogance and prejudice nature. It is only recently that the Ministry Complex (Humanity's Primary Government) has outlawed the use of Orcs as Slaves, something the greenskins aren't keen to forget.

As a race a human is very adaptable and can tailor himself to almost any (or even all) situations with apparent ease, being fairly strong, robust and intelligent their only real disadvantage is their lack of arcane aptitude.

BIOGRAPHY


Dwarves are a race shrouded by mystery, perhaps even more so than the Faeries. Their existence was unheard of until some during the Three-Way-War and the liberation of the Orcs.

During this time they surfaced from a maze of underground tunnels in the northern mountains with no recollection of a life upon the surface.

Many believe the dwarves to be a sub-race of humanity, forced underground many millennia ago. Others believe them to have more in common with the Faeries, for they are considered one of the legendary 'Fey Folk' and have the ability to wield magic.

Dwarves are small, stoic creatures. Physically resilient and emotionally passive. This allows them to accept and understand the new, where there winged 'cousins' cannot. Making them a fantastic all-round race, able to wield magic, hold their own in combat and in some really rare cases, even comprehend advanced technology. The dwarf is only let down by his size.

BIOGRAPHY


The enigmatic Faeries remain a subject of much debate within the orders and halls of the Ministry. They are a reclusive race, keeping to their forests and ancient traditions wherever possible. Dubbed the first 'children' of the 'Fey Elves' - They gave birth to the idea of the 'Fey Folk' - Those who can utilize magic.

Tanned and short in appearance (no taller than 5 and half feet),
the creatures are scarcely seen venturing outside of their sacred jungles and refuse entry to such places even to the Dwarves.

Quick, agile and the only race blessed with wings, Faeries are a magnificent sight on the battlefield, slaying their foes by the hundreds without sporting a single scratch in return. This agility combined with their in-depth use of the arcane makes them truly formidable opponents, only let down by their stubborn refusal to adapt to a modern age.

BIOGRAPHY


The Orcs are a proud and violent race, taking brawn over brain.
A typical Orc stands a massive eight foot tall, but larger ones have been known to exceed ten foot. Once used as a slave race, they fought humanity's wars for them up until the recent revolution and shortly after, the three-way-war. The former of which declared and the latter confirmed their independence as a race and nation.

Most Orcs now make their home in the Scrublands, spending their days waging war against their smaller, greenskin cousins.

Their 'Giant' frame and incomparable strength make Orcs near unbeatable warriors, but their sheer size often hinders the amount and type of equipment they can use. Limiting their diversity.

BIOGRAPHY


The Goblins are the smarter, weaker cousins of the Orcs. Quite the opposite in terms of brain and brawn. They are short, frail and ingenious. Their technological prowess falling only short of humanity's own.

Like humanity, goblins intelligence gives them a level of diversity not seen in many other races, allowing them to master a fair few professions and trades from special operative drop troopers to mechanical technicians who can erect a war mech from a bucket of nuts and bolts (metaphorically speaking of course).

Lyss was built upon the remains of what is believed (but remains unproven) to have been an ancient city of the Dwarvish ancestors. Situated underground it is arguably the largest settlement on the planet and without a doubt the most defensible, resilient even against orbital strikes or nuclear warfare..Due to it being the capital of 'Humanity' and its populace being primarily human, Lyss, while subterranean actually appears otherwise. The enormous cavern that houses it has actually been obscured by a device referred to as the 'Sky Dome' which in sync with other city-wide systems is capable of making life feel almost surface-like for city's inhabitants.

Upon admission to Lyss, it would be prudent to report to the appropriate registration offices, dependent on racial origination and stature. Krynn is the second largest city in the known world, rivalling even that of Lyss.
Unlike Lyss however, Krynn is situated above the ground, deep within the Fallas Plains.
It is connected to its sister city by the prototype bullet train, Thor.
The city is considered 'human' and governed by the Ministry.

In the world of 'KABOOM', "Magic" is a term applied to the unexplainable ability of select humanoid races (known as the 'Fey') to perform mystical actions that would otherwise be considered impossible to do through any conventional methods.

The applications of "Magic" are many, ranging from things such as the rapid healing of a wound all the way to the amplification of ones athletic or martial abilities.
The Faeries and Dwarves - this evolutionary cycle's eligible races (The previous cycle having presumably included the now extinct(?) 'Elves') - find it difficult (or perhaps distasteful?) to share any human-comprehensible information on the subject.

The Fey themselves insist Magic is a part of everyone, of all living things, that it's merely another element, a "waste product" produced passively by all organic things, much like CO^2 in respiration.
While there may be some truth in this - seeing as how the effectiveness of "Magic" has proven to decrease dramatically in areas with a lack of organic life or vegetation - it's hard to believe, in this day and age, that humanity has not yet managed to detect or isolate this 'element'.

Research into this phenomenon is both old and ongoing.

The use of "Magic" in this roleplay boils down to the 'manipulation' or 'application' of a type of energy. It is not something learnt or acquired, nor does it get stored or stem from an individual.

To use magic you must be of a 'Fey' race and trained in an art of use, of which there a few. To begin the game you may select one art of use as a Dwarf or two as a Faerie.


There are no spells as such in KABOOM, it's merely manipulation, your Character will know or be able to figure out everything in his applied field, the question is whether he has the energy to do it, for converting one energy to another requires energy of your own.

SUMMARY:
  • Only Fey (Faeries and Dwarves) can use magic.
  • There are no spells, you just declare an action that would be pheasible in terms of energy required and your learnt magical applications i.e. use common sense.
  • Faeries may have TWO starting applications.
  • Dwarves may have ONE.
  • Magic effectiveness decreases if you're surrounded by or worse, wearing/wielding lots of tech/powered items.
  • Magic will be more or less effective in correlation with the amount of life in an area. More effective in a Jungle than a Desert for example.

ARTS OF MAGICAL APPLICATION

- Kinetic Application

Those Fey trained in Kinetic Application have the ability to convert Magical Energy into Kinetic Energy, or 'movement' - Allowing them to perform any and all manner of dynamic magic, such as pulling and pushing objects, enemies... Friends.

- Electrical Application

The true bane of humanity and all electricity-reliant races, a Fey with an understanding of Electrical Energy's composition can use magic to shock, charge and even fry their opposition. They can also wreak havoc upon existing electrical installations, causing overloads, fires, power-cuts or surges as, where and whenever they desire.

- Heat Application

Those Fey who have studied the composition of heat energy may turn Magical Energy into heat energy, allowing them to burn opponents, start fires or even melt solid material. No this does not mean you can throw fireballs.

- Magnetic Application

Rather self explanatory, those Fey who have studied magnetic composition can turn magical energy into magnetic energy. This allows them to manipulate certain types of minimally sized metal objects, scale magnetic surfaces or even disarm their opponents.

- Luminous Application

"What good is turning magical energy into light and vice versa? You can turn lights off, big deal. Yes it is. For who else but a Luminous Applicant can turn a lightbulb into a weapon of mass destruction?"

This is a freeform roleplay, as long as you don't break "world rules" you can attempt to do anything.

For e.g. - You can make an action against a skyscraper, it isn't going to fall down, but you CAN do it.

You can't however, have a human character that does magic, it's impossible in this world.

That was amazeballs. An excellent idea and very well-executed as well as well-presented. Gosh, if only there were more DMs like you Grey.

One thing I have to mention though, the lore of the land is somewhat vague especially on areas like magic and weapons. It certainly looks like it's incomplete, but nevertheless still looks as juicy. I'll just be submitting my character form and if you ever add anything, I'll modify it when it comes out accordingly.

Description: Average height for a dwarf, with tough muscular arms and a stout sturdy torso. Faded sprawling brown hair tied into dreadlocks hang lazily upon his back, reaching up to his waist. Elaborate tattoos of encrypted decorative tribal origins adorn his shoulder and forearms. Deep set, emtionless emerald eyes pierce hearts while a rough shaggy beard of the same sunset brownish-red cover his mouth.

Large and tall for a dwarf, Aldus packs on a few extra pounds than is strictly kosher. Maybe more than a few. He has a semi-shaved head, and dirty, half dreaded unkempt beard hair. Its greasy strands could be either dark brown or black, it's hard to tell through all the dirt. His forehead is covered with thick scratches and he is missing the top half of an ear, although a clean heal indicates its age. Aldus is also missing the ring and middle finger on his left hand, down to the knuckle. On his right hand, he suffered a falling injury that left his hand unable to rotate much before causing him severe pain. His eyes are a dull, faded brown. His physical demeanor and stance generally seems open enough, and his eyes seem to sparkle mischievously. He approaches people palms out, a sign of openness. This might hint at his personality. He has average posture, for a dwarf, not too slouchy, but not perfect either.

He is clearly an individual with a colorful past. Maybe he'll tell you a story or two.

Description: A man two meters tall with light, unruly brown hair hanging around his ears and forehead. His eyes are ice-blue and next to his a bit forward-sticking nose there is a small scar that spans diagonally over a small part of his cheek. Due to his length he seems quite meagre but he is fairly strong and a bit muscular. On his right hand he has seven, exact parallel cuts, but on his left hand he has merely two cuts. They appear self-inflicted. Furthermore he appears pale, always seems a bit tired and has a birthmark on the palm of his right hand.

Description: Like all of her kin, Aeryl is small and petite standing at 5'4". Her skin is a light bronze matched with shimmering copper eyes and long dark gold hair, tied in various elegant knots behind her head. She appears calm and silent, her eyes a calm ocean of flowing brown. Naturally, she has excellent posture and moves with feline grace. As an exile, her wings were cut and the only evidence of them being two dark purple scars along the ridge of her back.

I sense mass effect with warhammer and kingdoms of amalur

Haven't played Amalur, so I doubt it.
I've just finished ME3 so yes.. It will probably influence direction, but the world was designed way before I originally played ME.

Warhammer 40k has helped a lot with Orcs especially, though I like to think I've spun them with a little originality.

If everyone is ok with stuff, I'll start this tomorrow! :)

I have some rather academic concern about the magic system. Electricity, Magnetism and Light are more or less the same basic interaction, while strong and weak interaction are not represented.

Name: Night Wind (real name unknown)
Race: Faerie (male)
Description: Lanky, even by Faerie standards. Short black hair and a narrow face. Eyes and nose are covered by a black mask. His outfit is also black and features many pockets. His skin color, on the other hand, is pale, at least for a Fearie.
Biography:Night Wind is the name of the Trickster god of the Faeries, who is known, among other things, for stealing fire from the sun and "borrowing" the wine of immortality from the giants, along with one of their legendary weapons.
The person behind the name probably lives up to it. In the recent years, there had been a series of art thefts and some assassinations by someone who was obviously very good at covering tracks.
He is trained in Heat and Electrical application, the latter especially focused on precision work.

Well, this technically isn't a storytelling RP. It does have rules and you can't control other people's characters nor can you play God (Thankfully). But good to have another on board!

BTW, Grey, how are we related to each other? Friends, colleagues or just plain strangers?

Here are my (three) characters, which Grey said would be okay, I’ll add them to the RP thread soon.

Name: Norm, Melvin, and Iggy Spanklehammer

Race: Goblin(s)

Description: All though physically similar, given they are brothers, each of the brothers acts, dresses, and sounds different from the others, each having a slightly higher pitched voice that the pervious brother with Iggy being the highest (and in his brothers opinion the most annoying).

Biography: Norm, Melvin and Iggy are trio of Goblin brothers, inventors and mechanics by trade with a habit of getting themselves into trouble. Each of the brothers is unique and his own way and though it seems like they fight often over trivial things the brothers rarely part with one another and should all three ever work together, great and sometimes extremely dangerous things come about from their cooperation. The trio is also known to be extremely resistant to their own antics, having survived several massive explosions with only a few scratches.

Norm - Norm is the smartest and eldest of goblin brothers (but as Melvin says only by seven minutes), having a very high IQ and is the inventor, expert hacker and master mechanic of the trio. Although having no formal education Norm can craft military grade weaponry and revolutionary inventions out of discarded tech and parts others wouldn't take a second look out.

Melvin - The middle of the three brothers Melvin is self proclaimed “merchant” of the group, being noted as very greedy and going to great lengths to get people to by the brothers wares as Melvin himself put it: "I'll make a buck off of yeah if it kills me! And it almost has! SEVERAL times!" Unsurprisingly Melvin is the cause of most of the brothers trouble, often choosing the wrong people to sell the trios sometimes faulty equipment.

Iggy - Iggy is the youngest of the three brothers and is unlike most goblins a complete idiot, as Norm once put it "He's got the IQ of a stump and is twice as dense." Iggy is known to spit out random childlike nonsense in the middle of a conversation, which is usually followed by a whack to the head by Melvin, usually with a wrench.

Iggy is always exceptional jovial, never becoming angered no matter what is (often) heaped on him by his brothers. One thing unusual about Iggy is his un-goblin like strength, having the physical strength of an average Human male, but outwardly no more muscular than the average goblin. Norm and Melvin explain this by saying: "We think it’s the Gods way of compensating for him being a complete idiot.”

And thanks, I appreciate that. It's actually my first time being a proper DM so there's a lot I'm regretting atm, but I'm learning quickly and will turn the RP around shortly.

Thus far the players have found themselves aboard "Thor" a prototype "bullet" train engineered to provide rapid transit between Lyss and Krynn, humanity's biggest settlements.

You can find information about the races and world in the first post, so I won't go into the gory details but in a nutshell.

The players are on board for a matching reason:

You travel not by desire but by necessity, summoned to audience by an old friend, via formal letter in a most peculiar script, one which only you seem able to comprehend.
As strange as the request seems, you find recent circumstances having somewhat forced your hand, the letter having arrived just prior to the anniversary of the end of Three-Way-War, something to which, you'd already made plans to attend...

Though none of them know they share the invitation yet, they all believe it to be individual to them.

The train has since begun speeding up to alarming rates due to a terrorist(?) takeover, the rear carriages then combusted causing it to roll to a stop in the underground chasm network surrounding Lyss (which is an underground city). The 'RedWings' a Techno-Faerie organisation (Faeries traditionally shun advanced technology) were quick to arrive on the scene and seem friendly thus far, suggesting the survivors come to their Headquarters, but are not currently demanding it.
They are led by a Lena Telkay and refer to themselves as the seventh division.

Everyone but Theos has yet to make a decision (he has decided to go with them).

The only other thing to note is that a "Mysterious" Faerie male had attempted to stop the train but due to racial contact with human's in the first class carriage decided he'd disconnect the cars. He didn't survive the blast but may be of worthy note.

You can be another invite passenger, a member of the Red Wings or even wait until they get within the city walls and be someone else entirely. I'm pretty open, but if it's an unusual character give me a heads up first - I'll likely say yes, I'll just to tweak stuff to fit :)

Details :With hair as white as the sky, Vayne possess an unusual hair color compared with other humans and a pair of ember colored eyes. His white cloth armor, which seems to be plain, has more cloth than armor. His wrist, waist and ankle has more armor than other parts. He always carries a katana around him. Vayne, unlike all other humans, treats all other races equally, except to those brutal killers or cold hearted bastards, other than that, he is respects everyone, even his enemy.

Biography :Born with exceptional abilities to wield a blade rather than a gun, his family thought of him as an failure, and thus, expelled. But when even called a failure, he manages to feed himself by hunting down large bounties rewards. He was nicknamed "Lightcutter Vayne". The nickname was given to him because of his fast quickdraws, though exaggerated, the name means cutting even that of light. His katana, called the Howling Storm, was given to him by his brother, Utamus Vendamus. Howling Storm was crafted also by Utamus, as he was their city's most trustworthy and great blacksmith. As Utamus is also not skilled with a gun nor blade, he was expelled at the same time as Vayne. They worked for money and survival, but Vayne said that he wanted to go to the city of Lyss, to experience more of the world. So Utemus crafted Howling Storm, as a farewell gift to Vayne.Not long later, his mother was heavily ill, so he went to visit his mother. But by the time he reached her, she passed away. His father did not care about the death of his wife, and only ordered people to give her a proper burial. Vayne decided and left with a goal set in mind, he will not fail in saving his mother.

Scratch that, I'll just be like another invited passenger.

ACTUALLY, to make things a hell of a lot easier, I'll just act as if all of you are in the front car. You still got approached by the Faeries and Lena, but the cars are connected - the Faerie didn't actually manage to uncouple them - I won't make a habit of this but I think in this case it'll simplify things a terra-load.

Just been a little busy, although saying that... I need to know.
I'm happy to put time into this but I do feel like it's not going as well as it could be, if people aren't too bothered I'll let it die but if you're all genuinely enjoying it I'll carry on, no problems.

I just don't want to force people along because they feel rude or obliged.

I'm in, at least I'll never leave all these wonderful RPs.
Its like everytime I join a RP, it dies out. And now I've created my ever first RP, but at the same time I'm afraid that it will die out too...

Yeah.... By the way Arcisal, are you continuing your experimental RP? I am quite absorbed in the absorbed in the RP. :D

As for this RP, I just need someone to continue posting and I can start another, and vice versa.
