Warcraft Royale B.33

This bundle is marked as approved. It works and satisfies the submission rules.
Description:
Warcraft Royale is a take on the popular genre Battle Royale, but with RTS elements. It has all the familiar Warcraft elements mixed together. You control a hero, build an army, kill creeps for resources and fight for space as the circle shrinks. You can employ a variety of strategies such chasing supply drops, going with farm heavy builds, go for hero kills, creepjack from players, building a fortress in the center or you know just hide until the end. If your hero dies, you may attempt to revive as a "hero creep" for another shot at winning.

Guess you beat me too it, but im still creating my version of a royale. Add some screenshots and some more information in description would help out a little bit.
deepstrasz
That description is well uninviting. A bit too random I guess especially concerning hero balance. Maybe you could make the danger zone more representative somehow; the border at least. The map edges are kind of useless when the zone shrinks and you...

Maybe if there was more randomization this game would have a chance. No one wants to play with the same 10 people who play it all day every day to get pub stomped in their first game, it will not catch on.

How is that a legit critism?
Your post is reeking of salt.
It's supposed to be a competitive map that caters to a demographic that enjoy difficulty.
You can't review based upon reasons that outside the game.
If you don't like that, then don't play it.
Like i've said many times before, adding randomness cheapens the feeling when you lose to it.

This is supposed to be competitive? How is it competitive when all it comes down to is the first person to get the best unit comp wins? With such a wide variety of units, a certain composition starts to come out on top. Every game I've played, the same people run the same units that end up crushing people who don't realize most of the units are bad. There's little to no balance when it comes to heroes, as most of them have significantly more bad matchups than others. My recommendation is to randomize some more elements to liven it up a bit, like the locations of the shops or the contents, or tweak some heroes to not be totally useless, otherwise it just boils down to the same units and certain heroes receive much higher priority than others. The gameplay has been very repetitive and not inviting to newcomers in my experience. You seem to be completely against more random elements despite quite a few comments asking for it. Your logic leads me to believe you think Fortnite, PUBG, and BLOPS4 would be more competitive and successful if they placed the same items in the same places every round. (They wouldn't) I love competitive games, from Overwatch, to DotA, to StarCraft, but this game is not competitive. The execution is good, but the game design is lacking.

You could actually be helpful and explain what specific units, heroes and compositions you think are balanced poorly. Fair enough you're frustrated but the developer can't consider solutions without knowing the actual problem.

If he doesn't want randomness then that's his decision; not every map needs to have high levels of replayability to be enjoyed. The competitiveness is likely what you have already described; first person to get all of the OP stuff wins. There's a racing element to that.

Well you're sort of contradicting yourself here. In a competitive game you would want to do the things that win you the game, by picking the good options. If the good option is to pick a certain composition in order to win then that's how you should play too. Theres a reason people use certain options over others, because they are better and have proven themselves effective. That's not to say that there isn't a variety of viable strategies in this game. You can win with army, going carrymode, building in center, just staying invis whole time, flying with zeppelin if nobody can fly or pushing players out of center.
There are so many ways you can win.

If one option seems to be unbeatable, try to reframe the question into "Ahh he's using option A, what options can i use to beat it with?". As an example of this, you've been in my games. Sexytime is a strong player and often wins with a Wyrm and some air units. What did regulars do recently to counter it? People started buying tanks. Nobody bought tanks before, but here we are.

Every game I've played, the same people run the same units that end up crushing people who don't realize most of the units are bad.
Instead of generalising, be specific.
What units are bad?
Most units fill a niche where they might not be used often, but that doesn't mean that they aren't good.
All units are usefull with exception of certain custom ones, but that's to be expected.
Blizzard has had years fine tuning them and i've had like.. weeks?

My recommendation is to randomize some more elements to liven it up a bit, like the locations of the shops or the contents, or tweak some heroes to not be totally useless, otherwise it just boils down to the same units and certain heroes receive much higher priority than others.
I'll quote Perfeks that put it very eloquently:
As for the shops, I think you shouldn't randomize them, because it looks like knowing where is what is key to success in this game. Randomizing them would just turn the game to more luck by just finding what you need by chance.
So basicly if you happen upon a great item and you win because you got it it cheapens the experience for everyone but you. Or when you can't find anything usefull and you feel screwed over by the game's randomness. It just isn't fun for players who enjoy serious games. If everything is random there is no purpose to go anywhere on the map. No sense of direction and when you can't find the things you need you feel bitter.

You seem to be completely against more random elements despite quite a few comments asking for it.
Well there might be a demand for it, but look at the people asking for it. Do they play the game? do they know the game? why do you think they think that it improves the game?
I've explained reasons for not adding random shit, do you see any good arguments for adding it?

There's little to no balance when it comes to heroes, as most of them have significantly more bad matchups than others.
Again, give me examples.
You can't say that heroes are bad without providing some examples.
In any asymmetric game there are going to be options that are better then others and thats just how it is.
It's impossible to balances games like that because good players will find the best options and use them.
Besides you always have a choice when it comes to picking heroes, so it's not like bad heroes are being forced upon you.

You seem to be completely against more random elements despite quite a few comments asking for it. Your logic leads me to believe you think Fortnite, PUBG, and BLOPS4 would be more competitive and successful if they placed the same items in the same places every round.
I've seen Dr.Disrespect complain about there not being any static weapon spawns. Because it really boils down randomness wether you can keep up from there or not. So how is randomness here a good mechanic for competitive and serious play?

Fair enough you're frustrated but the developer can't consider solutions without knowing the actual problem.
To give you a picture. Most of the games are hosted by S3xytime, a veteran ladder player and he wins most of the games he plays.
I assume he's frustrated because of how players like S3xytime wins by a larger margin most of the time, which shouldn't be surprising if you think about it.

I just played a match from a time off war3, seems much more stable now from what I remember, the periodic lag is completely gone, which was a nice surprise since I thought the more things you'd add the more sluggish it would become. Seems the problem was elsewhere and hence resolved. Also, noticed quite a few custom mercenaries. I like the dino riders.
What I enjoyed the most was creating superior items, for example gloves of haste with an additional feedback? Why that's a wonderful combo!
I just saw yesterday that wtii had posted a video and remembered playing it, so I had to give it a try today. I hope more people become aware of how good this map is. It's the closest to vanilla warcraft with a fun factor added to it - survival!

Haha the circle was very inefficient before.
I would pick all units and check if they were inside the circle.
Then i figured out i only needed to check units that enter the game or get repossessed.

The biggest hurdle right now is just making the map more intuitive for new players. I'd like to hear how your first interaction with the new item enhancements. Did you understand the mechanics from the get-go or did it take some time?

Honestly, it was really straightforward. I simply put an item in, spent 150 wood and that's it. Simple yet efficient. Plus the icons look nice, too.
What I have a problem with, are the wisps. Don't want to get into that just yet :)

My single suggestion would be that you 'tidy' up the lobby a little, and the intro. Those texts in the lobby are quite an eyesore, maybe that information should be available on the quest log instead.
Edit: Map version that I played was 0.50, so maybe this doesn't apply still.

Good to hear.
It's supposed to be a simplified recipe system.
Instead of looking up every item to combine, you can just throw in anything and it's supposed to give you something.

#lobby text
Fair point, i'm not sure if they're even neccessary anymore.
It tends to lead to uneccessary questions like "what does team 2 do?".

#Wisps
Let me guess, you're trying to click on an item when a hero dies and you click on wisp instead? :p
That's the most common complaint at least.
I've done something to adress it in v0.52.

I don't know what it is, but this game lags SO hard for me. Video lag, constantly. I am on a pretty strong computer, have you gotten this complaint from anyone else? P.S best custom game in a LONG time, such a great concept and well executed... I still try to play even though it lags so hard for me! it spikes when the circle is finishing closing. I'm not SUPER smart with computers so idk what it would be on my end. Thanks for the game, good luck with the future. Peace

I recently made an update in v0.54 to how many circle markers show on the map and when i move them they will cause some laggs, because that "move" function goes through pathing calculation and other such things. You'll probably notice it by they time circle stops shrinking. I've heard of this complaint before and i'm working on a fix, don't worry ;)

What's with the dark stalker remaining invisible whilst attacking? I had a game where he attacked me non-stop until i died. I tried running away but he also has a movement speed buff with that ability? You should take a look and see what you can do about that ability cause it seems a little too strong and hard to counter.

That would take a lot of time given how many heroes and abilities there are.
It's like 40heroes x 4abilities and now include units for the sake of consstency.
I might do it in a distant future, but it's just a load of hassle to do right now.

I'd like to know which heroes have missing hotkeys.

This gets asked frequently on discord, so i made a pinned post about, so i wouldnt have to argue about it.
Randomising Shops:
I'll just say it up front, i hate RNG in games, unless it's well justified.
In earlier versions of the game it was possible to get 3 divinity potions in 1 supply drop simply because of the random drop table.
Personally i feel it's bad is because it cheapens the experience for players who lose under circumstances that are purely RNG.
Since then i've reduced the RNG in the map to more sound levels, so a supply drop could only drop 1 powerfull item or several less powerfull ones.
RNG basicly leaves no room for counterplay and it's dumb.
So when it comes to randomising shops (or anything for that matter) you have to look at the cons and pros:
+Gameplay "might" be more variated.
-Good players will find the shop they need with ping, adding a layer of work
-It makes the game less simple (and simple games are better)
-If for the sake of balance this won't adress that anyway since players will look up the building with T3 units anyway
-I've carefully handplaced most shops with the map in mind, randomising shit basicly ruins the point of a "well designed product"
-New players won't know where to get the things they actually need.
-It dumbs the gameplay down several layers in terms of routing and devising strategic farming routes.

Theres always an inherent presumption lying beneath the suggestion: That Tier 3 units are somehow bad for the game and good players should be punished for using them against me.
Basicly anyone asking that just wants to level the playing field between the good and bad players.
It's basicly a way of dumbing down the game that isn't healthy.

Basicly strategising routes around creep camps and buildings, optimising it and finding variations with different heroes or when multiple players occupy the same zone is what makes the map work.
The picture attached is for example my main creep route i use and have optimized to level quickly.
If i made everything random then i basicly remove a large portion of strategy in favour of just running randomly around the map for the sake of "variety".

You don't really buy siege units unless someone manages to bunker up with towers in the center of the circle.
When people do they usually get focused from all directions.
So towers ain't all meta, which means siege won't be that popular.
And it's not like i haven't given buffs to siege units either.

I think you should make a mode which disables air units cause they can be a little too scummy at times

Exactly this, It really makes me sad to see my army go down the way just because someone massing air, the only other problem I'm having with the map is hero focus is really not punished to be honest, maybe atleast our units could stay alive and fight for 'x' amount of seconds after our hero is ded

Hero focus i can sort of get down with. It is a little too easy sometimes. I've done several steps to reduce it, like reducing CC duration of unit spells, but this actually benefits BM better then anyone else and hes usually "the hero killer". So it's a hard balancing act. So you always want several defensive layers, zeppelin, buffs, invul pot, invis pot, towers, overwhelming numbers, etc. The only thing i can do about it is add more defensive spells or units really.

I wouldn't say air units are that big of a deal if you just buy counters and theres plenty of ways to deal with it. The only problem with them is that they become a little too effective once you go past the 40 food cap since your normal units will clog up in chokepoints.

It's supposed to be a mix of RTS+BR, otherwise it'd just be another battlerite clone.
There aren't other games that play like this map so that's what makes it unique.

Few players can actually play Blademaster well from my experience.
He's been changed with the map in mind, but also from peoples complaints about BM in ladder:
-Wind Walk has cooldown after breaking invisibility. This prevents instant hit and runs thats impossible to react to. He's more "honest" (fighting game term) in this game.
-Critical strike has been reduced from 400% to 300% at level 3, but it stacks with items here. It's easier to gain items and stats in this map, so this change is a no-brainer.
-Reduced base armor by 1. This is to counterweight BM's high innate stats at level 1.
In ladder you usually just max crit. but in this game Wind Walk and Crit. are both worthwhile to max. first.

You can look at my tierlist for a rough idea of each heroes strength.

I remember when I first watched Grubby playing this. The map looks really well done and is the best approach to any Battle Royale map in Warcraft 3 that I know of. I would even think that your map could be one of the "big players" with the release of Reforged.
I am really interested in your project and will follow it with great interests. Great work on the loadingscreen artwork by the way, looks amazing and reminds me a lot of the old Dota loading screens. Good way of having amazing art while keeping the spirit of the game.

Wish there was a simple AI for this map for easier testing different strategies and approaches but I can imagine that this would be tedious work. Keep on working on this! May write a more indepth review once I have played it a lot more.

Thank you, i will admit to taking a healthy dose of inspiration from dota since i hold it in high regard. Especially concerning it's quality and how professional everything is done.

I would have liked to add an AI, with the intention of using it for testing, but to be honest i'm not really sure how to make one.
There's also the time effort/factor, i believe there are more pressing matters like the heroes, endgame scoreboard, bugs, rankings - that i want to add with future versions.
Some of the custom heroes cause players a lot of frustation since they have mechanics that dont get across visually or require certain hard counters, so there's a lot of work to be done.

Great map. Excellent amalgamation of ladder, custom and battle royale. Map deserves to played. Hopefully one day it will popular enough for regular 24 player matches.
Only criticisms: there is a learning curve (true for most maps), no way to randomize shops or disable custom units (although none are particularly outrageous) and frequent desyncs. I stopped playing regularly when I got like 4/5 desyncs in a row.

Very fun map. I had a lot of fun. I haven't played it but I saw a video of a guy playing it and it looked very fun.
Can't wait until Warcraft 3 Reforged is released so I can play it myself. Any plans on porting this as a standalone game? I would love to see a mobile version (I play a lot of mobile games, and this would make a great addition). Is there any possibility we will get the prison guard characters from your previous games (Prison Escape) as heroes in this game?

Just play it lol. It's a relatively easy game to pick up if you know basic wc3 mechanics.
I think the game could work as a standalone title, but it depends if theres a market for it.
RTS as a genre is kind of dead, so you definitely have to tie in some MOBA elements to get a crowd for it.
More hero focus, make both solo hero and army builds viable and reduce the overall amount of micro wherever you can.
It could work on mobile for all i know, i don't know much about mobile games though.
Prisonbreak heroes sounds like a troll question lol.
Technically i've ported a lot of spells from that map to this one and i also have an incomplete rifle hero in the works.

Hello, Im trying to play test this but i cannot tell if im doing something wrong. The map will not show up under maps, and i cannot open in world edit (level info data missing or invalid). Ive tried using game versions 1.21b and 1.31.1.12164. Ive tried reinstalling both versions, renaming file, multiple different map folders. Is it possible there is something wrong with the file? or am I an idiot? Do you have any older versions hosted elsewhere?
