Yes thehiveworkshop is so protective of itself. It's my opinion and I don't want to talk about it anymore.

All right.

In order to clear up any misunderstandings about threads like this I will use my admin keys to (temporarily) reopen it.

In fact, users MAY advertise and promote their own Warcraft sites here at The Hive Workshop, they just can't create new threads about them. Although not everyone is familiar with our site rules, nonetheless it's all there in black and white for anyone inclined to read it:

Community > FAQ > THW Rules > Advertising
Advertising a site for promotion only will result in infractions and link removal.
Whether or not it is for promotion only is the staff's decision.
You are however allowed to promote sites through your signature file if the sites are not offending.
That's the best solution: promote your site in your signature file! That way, attention is called to your work not in just one thread, but in each and every thread in which you ever post.

It's my opinion that the prohibition against threads that discuss other Warcraft sites are not for "protection" but rather because its sensible to maintain order on the boards. Such threads can easily become disorderly or unmanageable because:
  1. Threads that discuss other sites do not help Hive Workshop users improve their modding skills or develop their projects.

  2. These kinds of threads can easily degenerate into flame wars... "UR SIT SUX111"... "My site is better than yours!" This situation is an especially delicate one as members of competing clan sites may sometimes be hostile to one another to begin with and then may very well bring their own personal baggage and grudges along with them when they visit our Hive.

  3. Such threads can just be bumped by their creators for reasons that, once again, don't help anyone here. "I have two new members, visit my site and meet them!" And then the next day: "Three new maps are now available, check them out here!" And then the next: "New leet background on the model page, remember to visit today!"
So to prevent discussions like that from taking place on an ongoing basis, threads about other sites are prohibited. I have an alternate solution in mind that may take some time to implement: stay tuned. Until then everyone should advertise their sites only in their signature files. Thanks.

~ Thread reclosed.
