Connect do Battle.net, if there is new update available, Warcraft will start downloading it via Bnet.

Yes. Some of the patches did make changes to the world editor. This includes new trigger actions and other features.

For example, new patches abled us to create lightning effects, create multiboards etc., and these features were not available in box version (in my country box version was 1.07).
