Uncharted Waters 1.30b

Short summary: A unique, skill oriented, fast paced ship combat game with many triggered systems and beatiful randomly generated terrain.

NOTE: From version 1.29 onwards this map is OPEN SOURCE for anyone to edit!

Game Features
  • Many game settings for the host to choose from
    • Enable/Disable weather effects
    • Select the amount of islands
    • Select the amount of lives
    • Select the map size
    • Select the maximum kills
    • Enable/Disable alliances
    • Enable/Disable killing spree comments
    • Select the amount of flotsam powerups
    • Select map boundary type (island wall/abyss)
    • Enable/Disable friendly fire
  • Random generated terrain according to host selections

One word man, WOW.
This has got to be one of the best maps since... ever xD... anyway, on to reviewing.

PROS ---

-Totally remade UI, along with Dialogues, Icons and such. Excellent!!
-Very Realistic Movement system, the ship actually maneuvers like a ship
-Very addictive
-Ultra Realistic
-So many different options, unbelievable work.
-Realistic Terrain

CONS ---

-Sometimes when you die, your ship re spawns really close to an island, and sometimes facing an island, making it almost impossible to avoid running into it and dieing, with is annoying...
-A good idea for regenerating your ammo could be a port somewhere, where you buy ammo, because stopping to "repair" your ship wouldn't replenish your lost ammo (if you are aiming for realism) :p

Thats all I've seen up till now, So, Keep up the work, I think I'm going to play this with some friends!

i just read hellblazer's reply and now i'm realy excited :))
i played the game:
+ modding this map makes modding those stupid maps worth it.
+ its realy fun
+ you have a realy sweet design
+ its excualy fun just cruising around
+ realy realistic
+ the various possibilities of gamemodes at start
+++++ This map will be more succesful then DotA

- the terraining on the borders (border islands) looks not realy realistic: needs to wider at some places
- the keycontrols should be chooseable (qwerty or azerty)

overal 4.9/5 (if those 2 points are fixed then youv got yourself 5/5)

What if you also added the arrow keys to ship movement in addition to the mouse?

So if you have an azerty keyboard, you can use the arrow keys instead of W A S D keys.
If you have a qwerty keyboard, you can choose if you want to use the arrow keys to move the ship or operate the cannons
The arrow key functions are toggled by pressing ESC any time during game.

Oookay. I have hosted the map and when the game started after configuring the game settings I instantly won. I clicked on "Continue" but I was kicked from my own game.
My setting were: Lot of powerups, 12+ health, no alliances, the rest was left on default. Other people could play the game after I was kicked.

Great concept on this map. 2 cannon balls on each side.

I can imagine this on a Battle Ship like style, where you must use skill with cannons instead of autofired weapons. The 3 slots represents the cannons on the left side of your inventory, and the 3 right slots could represent the right side cannons...

-This "Crew Member" system could also be used for repairs, so if you had say 20 crew it allowes 20 hp regeneration per second.
-Another system you should add is when say another ship attacks you, you lose your crew members. To increase the loss of your crew members you attack the ship from closer range.

Can you upload the icons used in this map on hiveworkshop? I need the 2 cannon icons. I would like to have them in my map.

nvm, I did take a screen shot and took the icons from there.

Now I'm quite far with my project. However I cannot see any bugs in singleplayer that needs multiplayer testing, so I'm only need to finish the rest of the weapons and the map is at beta stage. Made a simple bounty system which increases when the ships buy a lot of stuff. So far, it does still looks quite similar to a standard battle ships mao (I've done nothing with the terrain, I would prefer someone who enjoys terraining to redo the terrain). I'm already created a simple boarding system also which allows capture of non-hero ships (Hero ships is sunked instead of captured)

I only got this idea when I played your map. I've just given you rep so can't give another, but you deserves credit for inspiration :D

Fantastic map :thumbs_up:

Combat system very similar to World Of Pirates, which was a fun mmorpg. Definitely needs to be able to shut off the music, and its almost unfair that someone can swing their ship around so easy with the mouse, whereas someone using a keyboard is slower turning..

Someday i'd like to implement a similar kind of ship move/combat system into my map.

sry to disapoint you, but I'm made my own system and going to release more beta versions. Thanks tho THIS GREAT MAP. Uncharted Waters gave me the idea :)

Eh? I was talking about the map for this thread... "Uncharted Waters". And as much as id like to give uncharted waters online (the koei one) credit for making that type of combat system, world of pirates was around long before uwo was around.

Definitely needs to be able to shut off the music,
You can do that by pressing Ctrl + M

and its almost unfair that someone can swing their ship around so easy with the mouse, whereas someone using a keyboard is slower turning..
Everyone is allowed to use the mouse. Keyboard ship control is only in the game because someone suggested it.
You can also press Esc to let the arrow keys control the cannons (in case you don't have a WASD keyboard)


And as much as id like to give uncharted waters online (the koei one) credit for making that type of combat system
This custom game has nothing to do with any games with similar names.

I did notice there was some "Uncharted Waters Online" out there, but it was too late to start changing the name... Also I couldn't think of any name that would give a better excuse for having a blank minimap :gg:

Your system is superb, mine is buggy. However I've made a fair BS map. The starting weapons is quite normal, then the more expensive weapons make the game more extreme...


I'm sure you can find many flaws about my map. It's at beta stage. I would like professional feedback.


Good you changed the music, I got tired of that music.

its really a good map.

3) cannon balls should only travel a limited range not the whole map
4) if you can make the ships throw wood out when they get hit by cannon balls (more realistic)
5) make a port when you can upgrade you ship...like turn into a beter one and buy good cannons etc.

It would be too time consuming to create an AI for the ships. But I might consider it later if I get very bored...

Hmmm... I will add more powerups in later versions but I don't think I can fit any more powerup slots to the ships. I think I will rather focus on the powerups themselves

2. Ships have no collision if you just steer over another ship fire all 3 cannons it's an instant kill, not sure if that's a feature or a bug but it ruins it to a certain degree. It would be nice if there's an option to add collision to ships and/or have some sort of damage for ramming into another ship.

And a suggestions would be make a few different kinds of ships, such as a ship that's larger with more hp/ammo compacity but much has a slower acceleration and max speed compared to the normal one

And as for the ports i don't like the idea as much as other people if you could make them an option that'd be really cool.

Weird, Warcraft 3 crashes when I click on the map(not when I start, just click on it).

Actually, there are quite a bit of maps that seem to do this but don't know why.
Hmm that's weird. Have you tried reinstalling WC3?

Well... if all you've done is remove map protection, why are the movement control system is different? I currently have both 1.28 and 1.29, and while 1.28 work correctly as it should be; in 1.29 arrow keys also fires cannons, and ships' speed is near-zero. Confusing...

Since your map is open source now, I'll look into it and see if I can find and fix ( hopefully ) the problem.

Hmmm... well... how do i put this... we... couldnt get the ships to move.
None of us 4. We couldnt find how to move in the description... Nothing worked. Our ships moved with about 1 pixel every 5 secs... Maybe we're stupid, but nothing happened whatever we tried. Maybe a qwertz- keyboard, but that shouldnt prevent the mouse to malfunktion, that didnt work either...

    • Mmm yeah... The combat is a bit more fast paced again.
  • Removed the spammy "Upkeep Ring" sound
    • In previous versions it used to play every time the player ordered the ship to move
      and due to the fast paced gameplay it would usually turn into annoying "RINGRINGRINGRING"-spam
 
Alright, nice. I thought we had a rule about that, but anyway.
Quite a lot of maps display their credits in the quest log and there has never been a rule against that.
The generated terrain looks fine, I guess I should give it a try.
Why Ex-Creator? Are you finished with mapping?
I had a nearly year long pause because of military service.
