i would go with the "shortname1 ' shortname2" concept. for some reason its trollish.
it is also trollish if the two shortnames are one syllable.

use "hard" sounding names (example A) for nordic kind of frost-trolls, and more soft arabian sounding names (example B) for your desert/jungle trolls.

example A:

ghon'tuk
ghol'dar

example B:

kin'sul
nai'zun
nal'jin

stuff like that
