Features & Details

-waves are randomly generated out of group of randomed units making every wave unique (following certain patterns)
-reliably structured reward system that considers player's state after each day
-waves get stronger over time (set by chosen difficulty)
-several playable game modes adding extra flavour and challenge
-possibility of other people join the game and vote on player rewards instead of player choosing for himself

Gameplay Details
-starting food cap is 10 Orc, 11 Human, 12 Undead, 13 Night Elf - gets further modified by selected modes & difficulty
-once you kill all spawned enemies, summons die along with them
-enemy spawns with 200 movement speed which is reset to default as soon as you attack
-you are locked within the circular area - leaving is punished by death
-AI doesn't switch it's targeting priority (no poison spreading, neither 7+ creeps switch to low health)
-as soon as 1/3 of enemies remains, you have 50 seconds until whole area gets covered by decay slowly draining 3 + 1% max health & mana/sec (prevents from exploiting but also can be punishing lategame if you lack damage)
-Divine Encouragement - aura emitted by the Sacred Pillar providing armor and health regen to all player units & armor bonus to Sacred Pillar (more effective less units player has - at 4 dissipates)
-Restore - ability that can be used at any point to heal all units as long as it has charges
-player cannot get offered more than 2 units with Healing Ward spell, 2 Naga Sirens or 3 Couatls within rewards if already owns their correspondent cap

Difficulty Settings
Easy - Starting army: Starting food supply bonus: 2, Enemy strength level increases every 7 days, Enemy has 60% chance for a random research every day.
Normal - Starting army: Starting food supply bonus: 1, Enemy strength level increases every 5 days, Enemy has 75% chance for a random research every day.
Hard - No starting food supply bonus, Enemy strength level increases every 3 days, Enemy has 100% chance for a random research every day.

Tips

-Cannibalize as well as any channeling gets interrupted while reward selection window opens
- the "+" and "-" next to rewards are shown if the reward somehow affects your current challenge (Challenges mode)
-"-air" command does not take into account units with magic damage
-if you reach to a point whilst you're playing Queen of Suffering and your army gets much more massive than the enemy, game starts to rise up enemy level by 2 every day
-Divine Encouragement aura increases armor of summoned units but not their regen
-all trees respawn at the end of every week
-check Help(F9) for many useful commands

Reward System

How it works:
Every rolled Forces in rewards have 20%(+1% per research) chance to belong to a research you already own. For example to increase chances for a Necromancer you need either Necromancer Adept/Master Training or Skeletal Mastery.
Researches have 30% chance to be tied to a unit you currently own. Starting with Archers & Huntresses is quite likely to offer Strength of the Moon.
Aid options increase chances to receive healing as an option if your army is low on health. If Sacred Pillar is lower than 10%, chance to repair it takes over.
Summoned units are not taken into account by any reward.

Options to receive new units get hidden as soon as you have no spare food. Instead, you get offered food supply.

This is not altered melee (please remove this tag). It's Strategy/Risk and Defense/Survival, more of the latter. No player colour change? Could work better with more players too. "Our allied town is under siege!" spam. Does food supply count? I mean...

Greetings, Stylo. Since you linked this the other day again in discord, I decided to give it a try myself after having watched it in the past. I gave it a few runs (around 7 or so), and I'll have to admit I didn't get too far, but I only played on...

I haven't made up my mind yet if I want to edit the map since this new blizzard ownership policy came out.
Yeah the map is protected by an external tool so I believe even if you can open it you won't be able to touch the triggers or save the map.

I'm quite happy with state I reached with last patch so unless a bigger bug shows up I'll not update the map. Sorry (a hero would be really broken anyway :D)

I really like this map. It's fun! And taught me a lot about micro. I went from barely being able to build an altar to being able to win melee games, and this map is partially responsible.
It's more of a brain focus exercise than anything. Only negative is that there is little incentive to keep playing, since there is no victory, and after a few "weeks" it's essentially the same. A more appropriate name would be Attrition of Faith xdd. Despite this, it has high replay factor.
Sounds like you're not going to continue working on this, however replacing the dialog with a fancy lua menu or something would be sweet.
(Also, I have not played the latest version)

Alright I'm coming back to this map. It would need some sort of online ranking that would give player incentive to play :D I'll try to think of something.
Never worked with lua before so it would be quite time demanding but u're right it would be nice indeed :D
Feels good reading that I'm doing better job at teaching people micro than Blizzard.

I was playing this map last night actually. When you get a solid group, your units feel like a family, can be emotional to lose them, lol.

Haha the sense of loneliness is definitely there. If it wasn't for the friendly pillar you would feel very abandoned.

I am using Warcraft III Public Test, v1.31. I have downloaded the map, pasted it in \Documents\Warcraft III Public Test\Maps\Custom, but I cannot see it once I am in the game. The Custom folder contains only this map: I can see the Custom folder in the game interface, but no map inside.

I tried to copy the map to every war3 file I have but still, I can't see the map when open game.

Okay I have tried my very best to make it accessible for all patches and the options are I can either set it to work on latest patch = which it is right now and therefore requires to be played on latest patch OR set it default which downgrades all melee units into point of state many pathes ago where Archers have 310 health & no Elune's Grace. It just cannot be set to convinence for all player patches. It seem to work with melee maps only.

Interesting game. Seems simple but it is complicated. I like it as much as i am confused with it
I ll revisit my statement when i have spent some time on different combinations.

So today i played a round with the following choices. Items, Race based, Sacred Pillar, Supply decay, Challenges, advanced spellcasting. Normal mode.
I got orc and i followed it up with considerable researches. I encountered an issue when I reached Week 6, the research drop box disappeared. I had a composition of grunts, tauren, docs, codo, beserkers. (i am noting this in case this is the reason that caused the issue)
Question: is there a way to hotkey the consumable reward healing bar on the top of the screen?
Decay: I had a similar problem with orcs, decay started even though i had killed all units. Maybe codo devour didnt trigger right.

i ll follow up with updates in this original statment if you are interested in my feedback.

The research box seems to be a current warcraft 3 bug. It keeps happening when you jump to windows while having reward dialog open. What you have to do is jump into windows and back again and it should reappear. But you raise a point, I can make it keep coming back automatically.
I can't really work with any way of allowing the player setting his own hotkey. Perhaps in wc3 options you can modify hero selection that is default to F1 into something else and it should work as well as ESC which an is extra option I've added. But I recommend using ESC because I'm about to remove trigger that would return the selection group after using F1 or manual click. It started causing issues with new feature I'm about to add.

Your comment is much appreciated. Any feedback is always welcome. Especially if you put effort into giving me info of possible cause or surroundings.

Oh thanx for the info. Esc works fine, no need for custom. Research box really not a big deal as you said with alt tab it reappered like magic.

I selected divine guardian, either lv6 or 7, saw the pillar of light gfx like a unit would be spawned, but nothing else happened. A unit is supposed to spawn then right? If so here's replay.
Thnx for updates. What is your formula for spawning siege units? It seems as with air units, when it airs it pours and you end up with 4 meat wagons or half a dozen mortal teams hiding in the trees.

Wow you really got screwed over by those siege. I already had a suspicion they were spawning bit more than intended. I'll neft them soon.
Thanks for letting me know about Divine Guardian. There was small chance that it would random no unit.

    Greetings, Stylo.

Since you linked this the other day again in discord, I decided to give it a try myself after having watched it in the past. I gave it a few runs (around 7 or so), and I'll have to admit I didn't get too far, but I only played on hard difficulty, so I have that to blame instead of my own poor micro. I'll give it my best attempt to assemble a coherent review for you.

Let's go with the bullet points. Everybody loves bullet points.
    • Races: I played random, so I ended up not getting Undead a single time. Orc felt the easiest to start out with by far, much like how it probably also feels the easiest to play in melee for new players I'd assume. Strong, durable units, and they start with the same amount as every other race, so obviously more effective hit points are packed into their starting force. Human was the most balanced one, so to speak. Night Elf units felt way too paper to rely on early, and gameplay quickly deteriorated into longing for more units, but having to take heals over and over again because of said paperness. Having a slightly higher food cap by default helps alleviate this a bit, but it didn't feel enough. Also, getting offered Marksmanship very early is insane, by the way.
    • Modes:
      • Sacred Pillar Destructible: This should be baseline, it shouldn't be optional.
      • Items: Now this is a bit problematic. The issue, in my humble opinion, is that most of the items are useless. And then even when those few good ones show up as an option, you're most likely still better off choosing a different reward the vast majority of the time. Drawbacks bundled together with fancier items don't help either.
      • Supply Management: I did not try this one.
      • Challenges: Very cool concept. Also well implemented. One thing I had a personal gripe with was the punishment if you fail a challenge. I think that might be a tad too excessive.
      • Advanced Spellcasting: Didn't try.
      • Naga: No, didn't enable them.
      • Race Focus: My man, this is the option for folks like me. I very much dislike RNG, so this is just phenomenal.
      • Army Customization: Didn't try.
    • Miscellaneous systems:
      • Restore: I feel it's a bit out of the way, and takes some getting used to paying attention to it, but it's an alright mechanic. I gotta admit I didn't use it many times I should have. Also, it seems to not be active after losing units or something like that? I thought it was quite odd that it wouldn't be available during the player's most desperate moments. Additionally, the "do not use Restore" challenge seemed very common.
      • Divine Encouragement: I think by the time this kicks in, the game is likely already lost.
      • Rewards considering current state: Didn't seem like an actual thing to me before I enabled Race Focus, and after that it was probably Race Focus itself that made it feel like a thing. Everything just sort of looks like a wild dice roll.
      • -air command: Being forced to use this because the map generates a wave the player cannot clear reeks of bad design. The single biggest offender present.
I read the description on this page, and the in-game info as well. I noticed you mentioning Cannibalize specifically, and additionally other channeling abilities getting interrupted by the reward window. Well, in my experience, everything gets interrupted, including simple things like a move command. Safe to state you just get interrupted, period. Overall, I'd say it's a well designed map, a sort of unique twist on micro simulators. For me personally, the heavy RNG is a minus only because I dislike it. You clearly put a lot of thought into all the systems, everything looks to be well thought out. Back to the bullet points because we all love them.
    • Level design: 4/5 (It suffices for a map like this one. No clutter is a bonus. I added +1 to the score because of the option to change between different tile sets. That's neat.)
    • Unit design: - (Would normally rate this, but I see no reason to rate essentially stock units, and give an unfair low score due to their presence. It's normal to see them in a micro map.)
    • Item design: 2/5 (I'll rate this solely because I think -as I mentioned- many items are problematic in the sense that they're useless. I think you should consider an item overhaul since they're largely ignorable compared to other rewards. The map is definitely weak at this.)
    • Systems: 5/5 (Overall well thought out, and implemented.)
    • Originality: 4/5 (Can't quite give a 5 to what's practically a micro simulator with stock WC3 units, but it's still a unique variant of it, so it's deserving of a high score.)
    • Replayability: 3/5 (This is only me, but I say it gets dull rather quickly. Yet I see the appeal for people who strive to beat their own records.)
    • Balance: 3/5 (As pointed out, even the starting race has bearing on what's about to happen. Items have issues. Generally speaking, RNG messes with this way too much. However, I see that there was a lot of effort behind the systems, and trying to make them fair.)
    • Performance/Technical side: 5/5 (I noticed no issues.)
This adds up to 3.5/5, therefore I'm rating the map 4/5. Good job.

I agree. Perhaps the pillar has an (pre game option?) upgradable attack or anti air attack, or it summons lightning bolts etc... While there is way less air than earlier patches typing -air hurts on a few levels.
I think it's a replayable map, especially for single player. Maybe not like fiend addictive, but maybe you head out to the ghetto to buy some crack once or twice a month addictive albeit pretty consistently.
I also somewhat defend the "useless" item question, most days most rewards are relatively useless. Orbs not allowing ground attackers to hit air is lame, afaik game engine problem with no easy fix...ironically it would help the -air problem.

Thank you for wide feedback Krauser.

Sacred Pillar Destructible: I may eventually remove it but still some people play without it.
Items: many items will simply feel bad because they are designed for different purpose. It's an extra feature making rewards feel less hollow and enhacing high level creeps to feel way better. I'm trying to include as many various items as possible in exchange for their usage that's true. But it's the better option, otherwise there would be only same 12-20 good items just like in the early versions. I can't use any stat items or Sobi Mask which are among the best feel items in game.
    Challenges: soon to be improved
Race Focus: great to see different people value different features

Restore: it was designed to help squishy units to stand a chance against heavy nukes (crushing wave against archers is nothing you can do about it situation). I know it's sort of a weird mechanic and takes a while to get accustomed to but it rewards player's skill and provides survivability mid-combat without making either low or high level units busted. I'm sure there is ways of improvement though.
Divine Encouragement: this is to help "Sacrifice all units for big boy" survive. Nothing too much just some hp regen and armor which is fairly needed when fighting 1v5. Of course when you are left with 3 archers on week 8 you can't expect an aura to save you. :D
Rewards considering current state: the system cannot be overly generous otherwise you would easily get too convinient runs. You just need to remember you have a chance unit will be tied research you own and research to be tied to unit you own. 20% +1% per research for units and 30% for research. It's reliable as far as rng can get you. And of course chances of other rewards like healing are getting buffed if demanded.
-air command: I have done alot of improvements to minimize having to fight against air enemies with no ranged units but of course there are cases. I'm thinking of way of removing it completely.

Only channeling gets interrupted when units are paused. Any order will continue to be executed afterwards. You don't really channel any other ability other than cannibalize which may uneffectively consume your resource - corpse.

It is just a melee micro simulator but one of the best in it's category :3

I'm trying to include as little modifications to default units and mechanics as possible. Pillar shooting or melee units attacking air could be bit too much.
