Teh giant crab!

Hello hive modelers!

Yesterday, I was really up to make a model. Didn't know what I should do.
So I searched a bit in the internet (google), and found the big
crab of the Monster Hunter game. I really wanted to make it.
Now I almost finished the mesh, and due to the bad textures of wc3, it
looks quite different like the mh crab.
Now, maybe you can tell me some suggestions, so I can improve it.
It's not animated yet, but I will start today ord tomorrow.

I know, the texture of the skull is awful. I had to work with a small piece out
of the texture, so it's quite blurry.

And if you have some suggestions for more tc places, other than the legs,
then let me know it :D

you should really better use the skeleton orc texture for the head and do some tinting later for the color. It will look much better I believe

I know your point, but the skeleton orc head looks too 'human'.
But the crab uses an head of a dead animal, found in the deserts. So the
skeleton orc head wouldn't fit in my opinion...

Your crab looks cute though looking shelter from skull is creepy if I think about it. Model and texture are both well done, with texture I mean UV maping. Only skull is stretched, there must be one bigger skull, Frost Wyrm maybe? There are crab animations in game, going for custom ones?
Most importantly what is polygon count (quads or triangles?) for that model and how much time took it to finish mesh and texture it?

Yes, that's the point of the skull :)
It should scare enemies, because crabs normally don't look very scary :p

Hmm, frostwyrm has also just a small part. It would look blurry too.

I know, the makura animations. But I think they won't fit to the model.
And of course, I will make custom ones, like every model of mine has :D

Triangles are about 1100, and I think it took me more than 5 hours for
modeling and wrapping.

You should go with a really big texture.

any suggestions?
(Which isn't quite a lot of work? Cause the head cost a lot of time, and I'm
not really up to remake a whole new head, which costs me 5 hours more.)

//Edit: Worked on the pincers. Tried that they look similiar to the Hermitaur. What about now?

They might look quite long in this picture, but ingame, when it's animated, they will be bent.
And yes, the black things on it are teamcolored!

Use this ingame texture for the skull. It's hi-res enough. And you can always tint the colour via geoset animations.

Ummm it looks tiny , dont make it widers make it longer and maybe make the back leggs strech out a bit more , and also where the head is if u make the sull a bit more rounded around the head it would be great. But i realy like the idea it prety usefull , soo far its prety good but if u make the ajustments it would be too awesome :D
 
Amigurumi, you are awesome. I'm liking just about everything on this crab, except for the mark on the skull but that can't really be helped.

thanks. Well I could remove this mark, with a similiar textur. But it's a bit
snowy :/ . Dunno if the snow can be seen ingame.

//edit: nevermind, it also have the mark, but not that visible. but wrapped, it looks pretty blurry.

Are those runes team coloured?
Will you custom animate or use crab blizzard animations?

The reference pic's crab's body is actually pretty small. It'd nearly fit inside the skull if all of it was hollowed out.

Edit: Are you working on a clam? You should so work on a clam, *pillz here*...
