It's hard to see whether the bees actually do him any harm or not, heck for all I know those bees might not even have broods. If they don't have broods, and I could make sure they wouldn't crawl in under my clothes and be a bitch to find, this shouldn't be a problem. However, last time I got stung by a bee the itch lasted for weeks, so if they do sting then I wouldn't do it.. unless there's a lot of money involved and I am desperate.

He doesn't hurt them, as far as I can tell. He scoops them up and wiggles his fingers a lot, but no crushing or anything similar.

EDIT:
Maybe he hurts them at the beginning, but if his grip isn't that tight then they would be fine.

I wouldn't do it at all by choice unless I there was considerable amounts of money involved, but this happens to me on a minor scale anyway - I useually walk around with 2-3 wasps on my head without knowing it until I try to scratch my head...
