As of recently the 1% owns more than 50% of the world according to oxfarm (https://www.oxfam.org/en/research/economy-1) (sounds like a conspiracy theory right?). Anyway, given that fact, if you were one of that one percent, would you allow poverty exist? Also, feel free to discuss the possible consequences of the world being owned by just 1% (or less) of it's people.

This is how capitalism works and it's probably a neccesary evil. Governmental taxes are meant to at least fix the issues this disparity creates long-term.
Capitalism is obviously not perfect, but it's still the best economical system we have, because it's the only system that works.

Remember that those 1% rarely sit on their money. They are investors, so the system will always work, no matter how lopsided it is. The problem of capitalism is not the upper 1%; the problem is interest, which kind of exists parasitic on our financial system and increases the amount of money in the cycle out of nowhere.

If that worked, why does the rich seem to become richer, and the poor poorer? If, tickle down, were a thing, would the richest 1% not own less over time, not more?

Communism is aimed to stop that but instead, corruption start to rise.

Communism isn't really meant to stop it, but exist as an entire replacement. Socialism is meant to be the transitory state between Capitalism and Communism. It's difficult to call Communism an economic system mind you. It's more an entire political and life philosophy. Suffice to say, everyone got fed up with the ideals of Communism before the state of Communism was even reached.

You're looking at too small a timeframe. Spread out over all of human history, the poor are quite rich these days. The replacement of Mercantilism with Capitalism did wonders for the poor.

You mean the ones with record levels of income, quality of life, and population?

Poverty will always exist because it is fundamental to our society. Someone will always exploit something else to be better off. Be that a rich guy exploiting the poor as underpaid workers, or the poor exploiting animals as work animals or product sources. The only thing that can exist is a minimum limit to human quality of life and hence human poverty. For example slavery is illegal, which would be below the poor.

Wasnt the US in 13 trillion debt, though?
I have to disagree with this.
Especially after feeding the homeless was banned in some cities in the US (afaik, it didnt last long).
Fact is, the richer are even richer than they were. You know, 20% of people own 80% (even more according to Wikipedia) of the money.

Source please, read exactly the opposite. Or rather, the poor country gets richer because the richest people in those countries gets richer, while the poor there still just get poorer and poorer.

Well, slavery is not illegal everywhere. Statistically there has never been more slaves than today. Although that isn't exactly saying much, since there has never been more people than today either. Also, whether it is possible or not, was not the question asked. Nobody knows what exactly is possible, we just knows what we have and what has been attempted in the past.

You two are both looking on too small a timescale. You don't get the state that the world was in a thousand years ago. Hell, even just a hundred and fifty years ago.

It is illegal in most places. Which is most of the world. One could argue if it has simply changed form to slaves with wages, but one must still remember that no matter how poor you are in such a condition, you are still a lot better off than many slaves in the past. For example you will not be fed to lions.

Quality of life has just improved in general over the last hundred years in all countries. No matter how poor you are, you seem to have a mobile phone today. Even in very poor countries diseases kill much fewer people given the population density compared with 100 or so years ago. Even the poorest person can afford more computing power than there was on the planet 50 years ago.

What you really should be asking is if poverty related unhappiness has increased. Quality of life has increased, but so have peoples expectations of their life. There are also many new ways to ruin peoples lives. Is a poor person today more or less happy than one in the past? Remember that if you know about nothing better you cannot really be unhappy with what you have.

That is because of technological advances not because of Capitalism. A lot of countries with different ideologies made advances in technology which technically increased the quality of life but didnt make the ideologies any better.
I do agree that it rises but only if you can afford it, and some cannot.
The difference between the quality of life of the poor and that of the rich is increasing as well.
E: I think I may have confused 'idealogy' with another word so this may or may not make sense. Oh well :p

    Yes, poverty should exist.
I don't want monks and mystics who starve themselves and voluntarily embrace harsh conditions to be force fed and jailed in luxury hotels.
