Well Dont think this solution is too great
in the place where you edit the x,y,z points of emitter (Edit Node)
Open Rotate (under translations) and say
0: {rotatex, rotatey, rotatez} (or when your first animation starts instead of 0)
Blizzard typically does it via rotating helpers, by attaching a particle to a helper. After attaching it to a helper, then you can do as Need_O2 said.. except for the fact that rotation has a mysterious 4th plane that is an absolute terror to deal with..

Thats because they are quaternions. But I do not know much about them, some pros like BlinkBoy or Magos know something about them (I didn't studied this at school so I don't know it )
