Risk Reforged
Risk Reforged is a large-scale RTS map based on the RISK board game. It features 20+ unit types, 59 countries and tens of different gameplay/diplomacy modes.
Created from scratch, inspired by the original Risk Devolution map. Includes many new things, such as restart system and name modes!

Hello! I'm officially releasing the latest, unprotected version of Risk Reforged 3.0. Enjoy. Feel free to modify and create endless fun version of this map! Be sure to credit me tho.

The system has a lot of things, including spawns of units, possibility to define spawn unit types etc! Country incomes and region income as well!

It has a non-working ranking system, just delete it. Otherwise it's the same as 2.8i.

I'm also including a non-finished world risk terrain (with Africa and USA). Feel free to use it as well.

Triggers might be a bit complex, but I added a small info on how to add new countries and units.
Delete the triggers for ranking systems, as it is not working anyway.
It should be relatively easy to replace the terrain with another and edit all cities in triggers.

Start in a random country and conquer the adjacent ones to gain more income.
Use your diplomacy skills to create short term alliances, betray your allies, use other players as your pawns.
Fight and dominate the whole Europe.

Features / Mechanics

Income
Gain the gold income for owning the whole country. Income is equal to the number of cities, i.e. 4 income for owning Iceland (4 cities).
Conquer as many neutral countries as possible after start. Start in countries with 2 or 3 cities to quickly claim then.
Try to not get in early wars with other players to not lose.

City Defenders
Every city has its defender staying on circle, often a rifleman. Kill him to conquer the city.
Try to attack the defender outside the tower range, to lose the least units possible or none at all.
However, if there are allied units near the defender, they will keep becoming new defenders. Kill every one.

Regional Bonuses
Own the whole regions to gain bonuses, i.e. +2 income for owning British Isles (England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland).

Bounty
The more enemy units you kill, the more gold you gain. The bounty means 1/4 of the unit value, by default.
Don't lose more units than needed, to not give an advantage to your enemy.

Country Spawns
Every turn riflemens are spawned for the conquered countries, at the campfire spots.
The number of spawned units is equal to the formula: X+1/2, where X is the number of the country cities.
Use spawns before training new units. They're free and spawn every turn. New units cost gold.

Ranked / League support
Play FFA games with default settings and upload replays on our discord (#ranked-submit) to get your game ranked and update your statistics. The map supports wc3stats: Warcraft III Stats

Gamemodes
Classic - Play the classic risk game, conquer the required % of the map to win (65%).
Timed - Gain as much income as you can, during set amount of turns.
Capitals - Rush to choose your capital during the first turn and try to protect it later. You die if you lose your capital city. Eliminate the other players to win.
Russia Mode - Every player starts with 1 city in Russia. Conquer the whole Russia to win. +Sapper unit.
Alliance modes
FFA
- the most popular mode - everyone vs everyone. Create short-term alliances, break them, backstab your allies, win the game. Preteaming forbidden.
Lobby Teams - fight with teams preset in lobby.
Teams of 2/3/4/6 - randomize teams ingame.
Free Diplomacy - use -ally and -war commands to create and break alliances (-accept to accept the offers).
Free Diplomacy (1 ally) - Free Diplomacy, but you can have only one ally for the whole match.
Name Modes
Show
- shows real player names (handy for 1v1 and team games)
FFA games should have hidden player names, that's why there are multiple name modes to choose from:
Colors - Warcraft III colors. Red, Blue...
Historic names - Julius Caesar, Hammurabi...
Medieval names - Randomized prefix+title, i.e. Grand Emperor, Greedy Prince, Cruel Queen...
Mythology names - King Arthur, Ragnar Lothbrock...
Players choose the name mode by voting at the beginning.
Other modes, extending the gameplay
Turn time - 75 / 60 / 45 / 30 / 1(scaled income) seconds
Turn time to add per turn - 0 / 0.5 / 1.0 / -0.5 / -1.0
Fog - Enabled, Disabled, Night Fog, Partial Fog
Turns to lose (if a player has no country for a long time, he loses) - 1 / 3 / 7 / 15 / Disabled
Spawns limit - 3 / 5 / 10 / 15 / Spawns Disabled
Multiboard - Standard / Standard+Gold / Minimal
Ships - All / Weak Ships
Trees - Enabled / Disabled (???)
Bounty - 1/2 1/3 1/4 1/5 Disabled
Fill Cities - automatically enabled for FFA games with more than 9 players. Assigns almost all cities on the map, without leaving neutral ones. If disabled, assigns only 15/less cities, depending on the number of players.
Rounds to win - used mainly for quick 1v1 and team games. Grants points to winners of the round. The game ends after reaching chosen points by one of the players. 1 / 2 / 3 / 4
Secret mode - Different every version. (1.53 - alternative russia income) (1.54 - growing trees).
Changing most of the settings makes the game unranked.
Host items
To quickly activate a set of modes:
- Promode - Fog enabled, Show names, Lobby teams
- Promode (to 2) - Fog enabled, Show names, Lobby teams, 2 points to win
- Promode (to 3) - Fog enabled, Show names, Lobby teams, 3 points to win
- Promode (to 4) - Fog enabled, Show names, Lobby teams, 4 points to win
- Secret mode - Activates the secret mode
- Reset modes - Brings all settings back to their default values
Voting system
If there are more than 6 players, they can vote to reject host settings and start with the default ones.
Observers
Toggle the observer spell ingame, if you want to only observe the game.

For diversity and spicing the game they would surely be welcome. Warcraft III and StarCraft are balanced games, maybe not 100% but being as they are makes the games much better. Itțs important to note that people editing original works should show...

Hello! It's already out of beta in fact (has been tested for the last year by thousands of players, people are hosting the map daily on bnet.
Just forgot to remove the Beta tag, will do in the new version.

A well-tested, remade classic. Has been present on bnet for a while. Even though I kind of suck at the micro, the map itself offers really fun opportunities for diplomacy and emergent storytelling. Definitely deserves approval. 5 stars.

Watched this map evolve from Revolution to Devolution to Reforged; love it and so glad Saran is here to keep up the legacy.

  1. Some icons are green squares on F10/game pause. The one for Host Options, League Info and Turn Time. Use the button manager linked below to create disabled versions if you have none. Learn about icons

  2. Turn Time should have an active icon. You can make it look that way with the button manager linked above.
  3. Hero models (those that have glow) for units is a bad idea as the bodies remain on the ground for a long time.
  4. Nice idea with the simplistic terrain and doodad colours but unfortunately they don't blend well with the units and buildings which don't follow the same trend.
  5. Army General and Army Major have the same spell. Be original. If possible don't recycle Warcraft III material. Spells | HIVE Even Marine Major and General have that spell. Also, Bloodlust and Frenzy on the same unit? You could have even added Unholy Frenzy then.
  6. Everyone has the same troops. It might be risk but it's nothing new or original.
  7. Ships are like the same thing but a better version of each other.
I think you should be more creative, differentiate unit roles more, maybe create factions for each country.

Your map is basically the same thing as: Risk Modern Warfare Final
On further search and credits reading, it's kind of a rip of: Risk Devolution Reborn 2.9

  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

7. Yes, they are, it's the most balanced way right now. In future versions I might add a few different versions of ships.
On further search and credits reading, it's kind of a rip of: Risk Devolution Reborn 2.9
This isn't a rip, the terrain has been created ~15 years ago by goble-r1sk, units were known before and used by many mapmakers.

The map has been created from scratch, because Risk Devolution was bugged and players wanted a new version.
One of the risk clans searched for a mapmaker to create a new risk map and I agreed.

My version includes new units (Artillery/Flamethrower, around 15 new countries, gameplay modes and new features (restarting rounds ingame, players wanted that for years!).

I have added a whole bunch of additions polishing the map (ie. better spawns, many types of hidden names for players (Medieval/Mythology/Historical/Color names), special effects when conquering countries, better camera (now you can set the distance up to 8000 without the map turning black, not only 4000 as in Devolution, which gives a better overview). The Devo map was quite stiff to play, at least for me.
Finally, it's a 24-player version!

V2.1 - 06.11.2019:
- Added spawn options (campfires)
- Added one Siberia city (1 -> 2)
- Changed unit names to more player-friendly, i.e. Army Privatee -> Rifleman
- Reintroduced Flamethrower unit
- Nerfed Flamethrower
- Changed hotkeys for ships & their icon position
- The vote at the beginning is more visible now
- Disabled Russia areas for 1v1 games
- New secret mode, which enables the `-g` command for FFA (transfering gold to others)
- (Army General) Replaced Unholy Frenzy with Slam (AoE damage spell)
- (Marine General) Replaced Frenzy with Pulverize (Passive AoE damage)
- (Artillery) Attack type: Explosive -> Piercing (it's slightly more powerful now, due to its weak defenses)
- Tiny terrain modification in northern Russia, to make life easier for pirates
- Updated league winners CoRnZeE & smokechronic

- (FIX) Bugged icons
- (FIX) Russian Brawl mode works for all Russia countries now

By the way, why does the Priest and Spell Breaker units have the same projectile? Similarly, the mortar team, steam tank and meat wagon?

Updated. 2.2a, main changes:
- Unit lag removed almost completely - especially for games with small number of players - ie. 13, 14, 15, 16 or less
- Added spells for transport ships "Load All Units" and "Unload All Units", that help manage ships
- Added Crimea (2 cities)
- Divided Siberia into three countries, 1/2/1 cities

Update to 2.4c, supports SD Reforged

V2.4 / V2.4a - 27.01.2020
- Added new Alternative Income mode (to prevent camping). Available in the "Other modes" tab in three variations: 5/12/20. Special information spells appear in the barracks upon activation. Read it to learn more about the mode. Thanks for idea, Loujine!
- Added new secret mode (try it out!)
- There are unit kill statistics for units that cost 4 gold or more now (check unit names).
- Added "Transfer gold" mode into other modes tab
- Added "Ship Modes" mode (normal/weak ships/only b ships) (I'm open for mode ideas)
- Players who lost are able to click units now
- Removed -draw command, since it was causing toxic behaviour
- Marine Major removed Roar, added Frenzy
- Added ???????!

**V2.5a - 12.02.2020**
- Added easy start dialog for hosts, they can choose between few different game modes to start the game instantly
- Fixed gold bug happening in team games, giving to players lots of gold
- Fixed spawn unit names, not showing the amount of spawned/limited units correctly
- Fixed ranked games text displaying wrong text
- More help messages for ally commands
- Fixed updating minimap in the partial fog mode? (to be confirmed)
- Tiny fixes&improvements

I don't have unprotected version of 2.8 sadly, but the only difference is the ranking system, so you can just delete it.

Yup @kentzeus !

Also I have noticed a lot of people play version 2.8g on battle net.
You should play 2.8i, because it has a bug fix for ship spells and fixed random victory bug!
I am updating the main post with 2.8i. Edit: Oh wait it already was 2.8i. All good then!

I'm delighted to see you share this map. Although I've been cleaning up and modifying a hacked cheat version and it's closing in to get finished, it's still good to have the original as a reference. Your credits have actually been removed in this version but I'll make sure to put it in. Thank you for your time as a map developer, you did an awesome job.
