Tell me what you think about this concept, if crafting items would give you EXP and other non-combat stuff like that. Personally I think it would add a lot to RP servers, for example you could play the part of a villager or a blacksmith in a town that never really goes out adventuring and slaying mighty undead...

In my opinnion it could be a fun alternative/extra experience. But as long as gray items give no exp, green give little, yellow give moderate and orange give, considerably much but not too much.

The only problem I would see is when someone is leveling an alt and a profession on said alt. The player could power level the alt's profession(s) and thus power level the character faster than normal. Most items only take a few seconds to create and with proper information through Profession leveling guides a player can power level a characters profession from 1-150 in around 15 minutes if the materials for the profession are immediately available on the Auction House and the player has done the math of how much of each material he needs.

Example: I've been leveling Jewelcrafting on a lower level alt of mine, I spent time power leveling her Jewelcrafting from 1-220 (around there) in one night. If your suggestion was in place when I did this she quite possible could have leveled once and close to twice that night from the amount of items I made in that short time that night.

I think the idea is still a good idea, though it would need tweaking so players couldn't power level a character and their profession(s) at the same time quickly. Your characters current level would need to contribute to how much Experience you receive from creating the item.

A new player using the system would probably level at the same rate they normally would because they would need to get the items they need to create what they want with their profession themselves rather than being able to buy them in bulk on a higher level character with a good stock of gold.

What's wrong with that? If you get all that money in the first place, so be it.
When you get all the best gear (or close to it... like me ^_^), and your epic flyer, there's not much to work for. And I personally don't want to level up through the same zones as much as explore new professions.

Everyone knows that in fantasy Master Craftsmen are also awesome fighters!

Wow well said!

I love the idea, but I really think that if there is anything that makes certain characters level faster than others it throws off the mechanics of the game. :-\ Bliz already had economy problems without any "golden sinks". This Entire idea would be great but it woud probably just end in boosting the already high prices for crafting items. the economy would buckle TT_TT.

I dont know if this would be bumping an old thread, but...

Yes, this would be a good idea on RP servers. One reason I see this wouldnt be a good idea on non-rp servers, is the twinks, such as 10-19 twinks. Now, they could avoid this issue and start maybe at level 10 or so to start doing professions. But if they wanted to make an Orange or yellow or green colored recipe, then that would be a problem. I know my twink still makes those yellow or orange colored explosive sheeps.

Just my opinion, but yeah, this would be good on an RP server.

So? Who really cares about twinks? It's not like they are unfair, anyone can make them, easily. And in the end, it would cost more to level them up via professions, so why bother?

Also, don't say "well what if you don't have enough money" because there are many ways to get that kind of money without a high level character, it just takes time.

And people who complain about not being able to do battlegrounds at 10-19 and 20-29, just level up to the 30s bracket, it doesn't take that long...

I don't think he's saying that twinks are unfair. He's suggesting the situation where you have a level 19 character, and he's out of engineering bombs. Do you go without them or risk leveling?

Less people play because of gold farmers, in my opinion. You get annoying spam constantly (want to do more dmg?) including whispers and group invites, you have to deal with people camping spawns (I gave up on Silithus when AQ was the big thing because there was just always someone I had to fight with for spawns), not to mention more gold leads to cost inflation, and as a whole it doesn't really help the players.

Aside from that, most people are bugged enough by paying 15 dollars a month, they don't want to spend more on the game. Which isn't to say everyone playing the game is the way I described.

Saying that gold selling increases the popularity of the game because anyone can sell gold doesn't make sense. Gold farmers don't play the game for fun, they play the game to make money. They're not enhancing the community, but quite the opposite.
...How did we get this far off topic anyway? Wasn't this about profession XP?

I should post some examples of the annoying gold farmer/power leveling services/WoW Hacking Site spam messages that you see in trade and such lol.

Really I think the spam is getting out of hand and needs to be dealt with somehow. One of my guildies had a nice solution of allowing players to do ignore all players in a set level range while your logged in, it could be disabled and reanabled at any time by typing a simple command.

I keep getting mail every...single...day...from one person about buying gold, sending mail is 30c a send, they'd be rich by the copper they'd have for sending mail to me...

Back on topic:

Like someone said in this thread
(So? Who really cares about twinks? It's not like they are unfair, anyone can make them, easily. And in the end, it would cost more to level them up via professions, so why bother?) 19 twinks create an @$$load of bandages and bombs. People would dislike having to go buy MORE stuff for their twinks. Now, heres how to solve this problem:

Have a button to turn XP gains on and off...

Now, that would make it useful, simple and worth it.

I can see where you are going with this ~Void~.
But Blizzard would not consider this theory because of the following:

1: Players could level way to easily if they had a high level to power their profession. Simply max a prof then drop it and get it again until level 70 if they had thousands of gold. (very easy to obtain)

2: It would provide another, easier, and cheaper way for powerlevelers to powerlevel people illegally.

I think this is a could idea but it just isnt viable for the wealthy.
