So the game has come out in Oceania and the U.S and I can't wait to see a release in Europe I'm looking forward to catching all the generation 1 Pokemon that I grew up with. And lets not forget my ultimate goal, as someone who grew up watching Pokemon: The Power of One this is my ultimate goal, Lugia.

lugia___the_power_of_one__wallpaper__by_mega_x_stream-d8yavj9.png

As for my starter Pokemon it's a bit hard to decide I love Raichu almost as much as I love Lugia but I've always started with a Charmander so I think for symbolism alone I need to start with Charmander instead of Pikachu.

My personal top 5 pokemons I want to have is:

1. Lugia
2. Raichu
3. Charizard
4. Dragonite
5. Haunter

How about you guys are you exited about Pokemon Go, what's the starter you'll go for Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle or Pikachu. Who are you most interested in catching and are you going to join team Articuno, team Zapdos or team Moltres?

I myself can't wait to jump on team Articuno, as a Scandinavian I can't very well pick anything else than the ice Pokemon.

I do like Pokemon, but I don't think I can trust this one, nor I want to install it. (GPS system...). My brother has one... *sigh*
Though if someone wasn't using this as a surveillance game,
Then I would definitely want:

1. Ho-oh
2. Moltres
3. Charizard
4. Pidgeotto
5. Dragonite
6. Lapras

Team without Legendaries

1. Charizard (Probably Salamence if there was Gen III)
2. Lapras
3. Fearow
4. Raichu
5. Rapidash
6. Onix

That's not a Pokémon, it's got to be some second, third, fourth, or other bullshit generation sucker.

There is only one generation.

-

That aside, I'm playing Pokémon Go like crazy, and I love it. It's insanely interesting to me, and I guess
especially considering I'm Norwegian, to see a game that actually makes people go outdoors and walk about,
and even socialise much more than what is normal in this country. I have myself had some pretty great
experiences just meeting people and talking about the game, having a laugh and just generally dicking around.

The pride of my collection is currently Sandslash, not because it is the strongest one I've
got, and not particularly because it's the rarest one I've got either, but because I really
like Sandslash, and because I got him pretty early in my Pokémon career.

sadly,
people who tried have told me that it's pvp battle system is shitty.
And everywhere: Zubats!

Well, the combat system certainly isn't a turn-based somewhat strategical system like what it was on gameboy,
but it is actually somewhat satisfying, even for being as simple as it is. And, besides, the PvP aspect of the
game is (currently) not a very big part of it. I have heard that the next content patch for the game is supposed
to introduce duel mechanics and stuff. But this is hearsay, so don't take my word for it.
If that's the case, I hope they also update the combat to be a little more... Diverse.

As of right now, the game is all about exploring the outside world, catching Pokémon,
evolving them and powering them up so that you can take and hold gyms and probably
prepare for a future where you can fight your friends in single combat.

Oh, and, yes. Fuck Zubat.

And since we're on about it, here's my dream-team:

1. Alakazam
2. Gengar (I like Haunter better, but he's weaker)
3. Nidoking
4. Nidoqueen
5. Porygon
6. Dragonite

I'd love to talk more about the potential of this game, because I think it could become
so much greater than what it currently is, given time and technology. But I don't have
time for that right now, I may return to this post or post a new one in that regard later.

I'm excited with Pokemon Go to be available in my country. (Or is it, already?) Most likely my starter would be Pikachu or Squirtle.

My dream team would be:

1. Milotic
2. Dragonite
3. Misdreavous
4. Vaporeon
5. Gyarados
6. Cacturne

Since I didn't played it yet, I can't tell much about the game itself.

It's pretty addicting. I see people playing it on every corner (including myself when walking to and from work). A lot of people said they get bored around ~15-20, but I imagine the hype will be back as soon as they add a way to battle or trade.

The sheer popularity is pretty nuts, though. This is what the financial district in San Francisco looks like on a daily basis:

Ideally, you'll have a pokestop near your desk and you'll farm it while at work. And GPS gets pretty shitty in the area so you can actually rack up walking distance if you're lucky. :D

As for pokemon I want--I really want a Snorlax. Other than that, I'll probably just fall in love with the first rare one I find.

Apparently the game has serious design flaws...

The way it operates is highly energy inefficient. Constantly using the GPS, data connection and GPU graphics is about the maximum power state a phone can get into. The result is that phones quickly deplete their batteries, to the point that phone usability has become a concern.

Practically no social/safety studies were conducted for the game. Intrinsic mechanics are highly unsafe, not factoring in geographic, social or environmental hazzards. Privacy been violated due to various mechanics encouraging/forcing people onto private property. Sites with important social or historic meaning have been defamed/spoilt by due to no considerations being made. Minors are encouraged to wander around without adult supervision to new places. People have already been killed/hurt/assaulted as a result, something that really should not happen playing any game.

The development processes used in the creation of the app were poor. Very little testing performance and playability testing was performed before release. Many exploits and bugs made it into final release, greatly affecting user experience. Little game mechanic testing occurred, resulting in poor game balance and multiple playability issues for some players in remote areas. Server structure was not flexible/scalable enough to cope with sudden traffic spikes resulting in long release delays to some regions. Poor agile design techniques and testing meant that much regression occurred between early updates as well as several critical issues taking extended times to fix. Beyond a doubt, the game well disserves the tile of "worst game release day experience of 2016".

The overall economy of the game is badly broken. Progress is purposely rigged at higher levels to encourage expenditure of real life currency. No pay experience is extremely bad due to no consistent progress model. RNG aspects of the Pokémon catching mechanic at high levels closely mirror slot machine and other gambling mechanics, especially since they require a token with real life value in the form of a pokéball to play. Additionally the high data usage of the application is resulting in deferred costs which people may find hard to track or surprise bill payers at the end of the month. The social popularity of the game is encouraging people to spend more than they responsibly should. The people likely to be spending most on the game are those which can least afford it, resulting in increased poverty and people/children quality of life suffering.

Despite its huge success and single handily doubling the value of Nintendo it can still be viewed as a failure.

And then comes along DSG to shit all over it.

I swear, mate, sometimes it feels like you are bringing up all the negatives about something just
to instigate a debate. You may think you're playing the devil's advocate, but you really just come
off as bothersome most of the time.

The way it operates is highly energy inefficient. Constantly using the GPS, data connection and GPU graphics is about the maximum power state a phone can get into. The result is that phones quickly deplete their batteries, to the point that phone usability has become a concern.

You will be hearing me saying this a lot during my reply to your post: If it's a problem, then fucking don't play the game.
You can't blame a game for depleting the battery on your phone, ultimately it is the user who decides to run the game
until the phone is emptied for power. Don't blame a game for a human's stupidity.

People have already been killed/hurt/assaulted as a result, something that really should not happen playing any game.

I thought someone would bring up this, the fact that the media has been very keen on telling the world that some people have died "because of the game",
and that some people have been robbed "because of the game". But it really isn't "because of the game", is it? It's because people are inconsiderate and
stupid and ignorant to their surroundings. This happened before the game came out and will continue to happen after people stop playing it, again: You can't
blame a game for people's stupidity. The game even has a warning every time you log into the game saying:

"Be alert at all times, be aware of your surroundings." - If this isn't enough to remind people that there is a world around them that isn't the game, then nothing
works.

Sites with important social or historic meaning have been defamed/spoilt by due to no considerations being made.

This is bollocks, poke-stops are deliberately placed at locations that has these values, and whether or not people decide to stop and read about them, which the game
actually offers some information on, is up to the people playing the game. I, for one, can say that I have learnt and discovered some few things about my local community
because of this. You are using the word "the game is encouraging" a lot, and in all the wrong places, if it encourages anything, in this particular scenario, it's actually
encouraging it's players to go out and explore locations of some fascination in their own local community.

Minors are encouraged to wander around without adult supervision to new places.

In no way at all are they "encouraged" to do so, just as much as they are not encouraged not to do so, the game in and of itself doesn't encourage anything
in this regard. It's not a game-developer's responsibility to take responsibility of how people play their game, it's the parent's responsibility to either not
let them do so or make sure they do so in groups or with older people. Same goes for people getting robbed because of the game: If you're afraid of getting
robbed, then don't go looking for Pokémon, or do so in larger groups. Just because you
happen to play a mobile game when something bad happens, doesn't mean you can blame your own irresponsibility and stupidity on the game.

There are so many more inaccurate and straight out unnecessary comments in your post I'd like to address, but there's too much that I won't bother.
And besides, we'd as well be ten minutes back in time for all the chance you'll change your mind.

To be fair, if people don't have basic common decency/sense, that is not Pokemon Go's fault. People are responsible for their own actions, playing a game is not an excuse.

Never gonna play it just because I am aware that I have the attention span of a goldfish and will probably fall off a cliff or get ran by a bus.

To be honest it does look a bit like a body snatchers/invasion episode outside on the main streets where the pokemon-stops are. Everyone is on their phone (even more than before) and they seem to follow very strange routes in groups (probably chasing <are pokemons running> pokemons around) like some weird bipolar sheep.

It is unfortunate however that people lost their lives(and/or found dead bodies) and I believe some of them did so (the ones who walked off a cliff) due to the game spawning system that creates objectives (pokemons?) on bad places like canals, cliffs and even construction sites (my friends had a gathering and the donkeys wanted to go to a such construction site because something was there that was 'rare', so yes I am speaking of experience, their experience. Fortunately they decided to scrap that idea.) and because of its addictive nature some people fail to assess the situations and end up in troble or even worse - dead.

The_Silent I agree playing the game is no excuse but some things are considered catalysts in the human brain and this game is a psychology textbook example of such a coherency between actions and results.
After some searching it seems that the game developers also strip users of all legal rights when they agree to the Terms and Conditions.

All this I write as a unbiased user who never played it and probably never will.

Oh well. If people have fun in that, I say let it be so. I am not aware what is the replayabilty or progression lenght of the game but I am sure the hype won't last forever and soon this won't be something we see daily on our newsfeed.

I am not sure however that ''people's stupidity'' caused all of the stuff happening on this list claimed to be criminals using the game to do what criminals do best. Also there are a lot of examples of bad design like pokemons spawning in hospitals.

Killer app, sadly.
Bad pun aside, nobody should ever potentially be injured (or worse), because of playing any outdoors video game imho.

However, playing a video game can safely hurt one's wallet, though.

Reason for the removal was that the apps worked by trawling locations for Pokémon. In doing so they generated 3 times the load on the Pokémon go servers. So to save them money and improve quality of service they removed the ability to trawl their servers.

Hehe, I guess. Just trying to inject new input (with extreme caution) here, since the thread has gone somewhat silent since some time now.

Now, is the game still up to the players' expectations?

It's been absolutely amazing (both good & bad) to watch this thing unfold across the earth like a creeping mold.

I am still of the 'dumbphone' generation, so I have yet to play Pokemon Go. But I have witnessed, even in my little corner of the world (not a super-populous city, but not Nowheresville either), the profound effect it has had on people all over the place.

I would be interested to play it, if I had a smartphone. Until then, I sit on the sidelines and watch my fellow humans ascend/descend above/below all.

Well from a mechanical point of view its not super impressive but it does take people outside and introduces you to other trainers who love the game and the game has by far exceeded my expectations, I've made quite a few new friends and re-kindled with old friends thanks to Pokemon Go.

I think he only caught all obtainable Pokémon. Last I heard all legendries were still not obtainable.

Legendaries and as far as we know Ditto so the max amount of obtainable Pokemon right now are 145/151 (Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Ditto.) Some people have through glitches, knowingly or unknowingly obtained legendaries such as Articuno and their legendary Pokemon have been replaced with a few Lucky Eggs, Lure modules and other useful items that would otherwise cost money.

I've enjoyed the game immensely as well. I still miss the ability to battle with my pokemon though. Whenever I go to a gym I face stuff like 3000cp and that's not something I can match. As for actively playing it, I've never actually fully went away hunting them myself. It's basically a motivator to get me to go on fairly decent walks. You go for a walk with someone to talk to and play some pokemon go while you do. At some point after walking some kilometers, you get a reward if you remembered to place an egg in an incubator beforehand.

I have no ability to use my pokemon to butcher things I come across to raise its level and evolve it. Sometimes after throwing away your pokeballs, you wish to murder everything you find until you can get new pokeballs. But nupe, no can do. Instead I need to catch hundreds of the same pokemon and convert them into candy before upgrading them. Bugs when throwing is common as well, You'll throw one, it'll fly to the moon and for some reason, these bug moves costs you ten pokeballs. You'll go out with 120 of them and end up with 12 pokemons and 30 remaining pokeballs by the end of it.

Lures does not work btw. The only way you can get it to work is by using two between two pokestops and then standing exactly inbetween the two. But there's also the incense once that is supposed to increase your chance to come across pokemon, does nothing besides a fancy swirly SFX around the character on your phone and a handy countdown. Effect wise, it does absoultely nothing.

Oh, also, I saw you guys mentioned lineups. I'll just go for the ones I find cool and spiffy. Would probably replace Exeggutor with Zaptos if legendaries was obtainable.

1. Jolteon
2. Exeggutor
3. Scyther
4. Cloyster
5. Gengar
6. Arcanine

If up to gen 3 was added, my lineup would look like this; (Had to actively look them up because I only really remember gen1.)

1. Jolteon
2. Mudkip
3. Typhlosion
4. Shuckle
5. Flygon
6. Spoink

Hold on a moment... people can't even play/fight each other with the pokemons?

Well, if your friend has a gym, then you can. Otherwise, no. I would've loved to have pokemon battles with friends and family, but sadly, that does not work yet.

Talking about Pokemon Go. I noticed that everyone are into that game these days. I even heard the news about a Pokemon ride aside from the Pokemon stop. By the way, my family including my kids are enjoying this new game around the globe. Although, I haven't encountered any battles yet. But, I wanna know how to do so.

The battle mechanic are quite basic, you need to find a gym and either steal it from an opposing team or empower it if your team controls it. The quality of the Pokemon where you live depends a bit on where you live but I'd expect 2k cp Pokemon in gyms.
