Hey guys. For school, I have to do a National History Day project. Out of the categories, I chose a website. While I am doing most if not all of this in PHP freehand, I need some help coming up with a good layout and design for the site.

My topic is Bastogne and the Battle of Bulge, taking place Belgium wintertime. I want to tie both an artic/snowy enviroment with a WII enviroment also, but I need some help.

First off, I need help on the layout, transitions, etc. I was thinking somewhere along a flash site, following something sort of like slenderfungus's design, shown here. I decided that it be best if I got other peoples advice, my ideas are probably out of the leage of my capabilties.

Or don't bother and make it from scratch.

Do the typical layout, banner on the top, and then a giant table for the content in the middle, followed by more tables along the sides if you'd like. links to other sections can go down the sides or locate at the top, depending on your preference. THW is a good example for a good layout, and it's all in PHP.
