Modeling Question : Minimum/ MaximumExtent

Heho,
This question has been bothering me since i oppened my first .mdl file...

What is the Minimum/ MaximumExtent of a model?
Example:

Model "House" {
	NumGeosets 1,
	NumBones 1,
	BlendTime 150,
	MinimumExtent { -39.5576, -44.9967, -117.098 },
	MaximumExtent { 34.6113, 50.0887, -8.15772 },
	BoundsRadius 131.535,

I'm not exactly sure but i do remember this tutorial being something to do with it. Basically its how big the model is i think.
