I always liked the RDZ industry models.

As I can see so far, most of his models (the typical RDZ mechs) are gone, so I decided to try out modelling myself. Check the attachments for the first mech warrior. It also contains the .mdx so far. It's 360 triangles, which I believe is a good trianglecount for a warcraft 3 model.

However, this is where you come in: I cannot texture or animate. Therefor, I'd like to get someone do this for me instead. Credits will be given ofcourse!

On Texturing: there's no UVmap in the model
On Animating: I made separate objects in the model, but I'm not sure if they're all ok...
On particles: there are no particles in the model, but it'd be useful to have some small "flashes" at the 2 cannons on the mech when attacking...

Final note: This is partly a request, as I need help here on Texturing/Animation. If this request turns out to be ignored, I'm ofcourse not going to make any other mechs. If however it turns out nicely and the community wants more, I could make others, with the help of a texturer/animator ofcourse.

P.s. I'll be gone until friday, chances are I'll only be able to reply in 5 days. Don't blame me for "reviving" a 5days old thread then :)

Eleandor... Don't ask Rao that, he typicaly avoids the question.

To sum it up basicly:

Rao thinks the Wc3 community is scum and at least in part he is right

So eventualy he decided enough was enough and he pulled every model he had made (err well every RDZ mech he made) off the cyber shelves.

What is known:
Rao want them to be private, its his own buisness so dont bother him about it.

He made the models, it would be horrible if someone like XGM hosted them without his permission.

He pulled them for his own reasons and that should be respected, at least he did state at least 1 reason why (unlike Black_Stan)

Do not be angry at RDZ, simply aknowledge it and move on

PS: soory for hijacking this, but i wanted to clear it all up.

Older members like me who have been watching the scene for years still have his models in massive (lol) packs, mines even categorized orgainized and sorted !

I got mine a while back, after he took them off the shelf. I found them in some guys map. A transport jet thing, and 2 mechs.

Of course at the time i didnt know what the hell RDZ was. I was lookin at them and goin wtf is an RDZ mech?

I still have them, and there are lots of maps i know that still have them. Of course i cant say which ones. So the models are spreading anyway.

Anyway back on topic:

I might have photoshop available soon, so i might be able to whip some textures for you (Maybe) but i got no clue how to put them on the model, so you can do that yourself or find someone else. (Btw, tried the steam engine skin?)

And Chriz. might animate it, him having the "Animator" user tag planted on his forhead. Maybe some other modelers could help, Illidain, general frank, mechanical?

Dono. ASk around, PM someone if you dont find anyone

Well the uwv map is preety scary xd It would be much easyier if you didnt attach the geosets. I tryed to put to UV verticles on a part of Tinker texture (randomly) and it dosent look that much bad^^

There is some horrible geometry in there.

Wasted polygons all over the shop, not to mention some weirdly and entirely unnecessarily divided planes.

GMax, I'll wager.

So what exactly is changed? Could you give me the new trianglecount? Is it actually smaller (Seeing as my file is 25kb and yours is 28)? Please tell me what I was doing wrong so I can avoid it in the future...

Also, does anyone know a tool to convert mdx back into 3ds? Alternatively, can you (RDZ) send me your model in 3ds format so I can have a look at it and compare it myself? Thanks.

As I said, kofi, there was no uvmap at all yet...
What I also feared was that the texture would become "pixelated" (lack of other words) when using a texture such as the tinker one (like mentioned by Chaos Overlord). My fears became true, because indeed it looks pixelated... True, it's the best I have right now (and thanks for that), but still...

Massive_Attack, I actually already knew about that, but still couldn't entirely understand why he just removes them, seeing how he doesn't care :). I myself have some of his models too, but I still felt like bringing some other mechs to war3 too. But let's not make that the subject of this thread (and stop hijacking it, everyone :D)

I might poke Chriz. for animating soon, but right now I'm still recovering from my trip...

Thanks for the helpful comments so far. I'll consider some things mentioned here once I get some answers.

I didn't change any geometry, besides making the top part horizontal instead of looking at the ground. Oh yes, and adding a Walk animation.

What you were doing wrong is just general arrangement of triangles; the sort of thing you'll learn with experience. Just think about where things go, how you can make the same shapes with less triangles...

Thanks, I didn't even notice the walk animation! (thanks for that again :) ).
I knowthe top was aligned "badly", but basically I did that because it looked better on the screen. The final model was indeed meant to be aligned like you aligned it.

K, I'll try to get the arrangement better in future models, although I think the trianglecount on this model isn't a problem anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought 360 were ok for 1 unit.

p.s. You got my respect :)

Something else: I noticed Chriz' sig claims he doesn't take requests, and if he would, he'd *come* to me... However, I doubt he even reads the request forum :)...
Well, I guess there are more people that request stuff at him nevertheless :)
