Some of them hang around for quite a while. Typically, most of the new people I see hang around until their map is done, or they lose interest in mapmaking.

a noob is a noob in anything until they know what they are doing and they know certain things off by heart. in my opinoin, in CS:S you are a noob until you can buy by numbers and know at least 3 maps off by heart, not only that but you gotta have a half decent aim and know how to use nade properly. until that point you really dont know what you are doing and are still anoob. whether it takes weeks or months varies from person to person. for me the same applies to everything, you are a noob untill you know what you are doing.

A noob's survivorship curve is comparable to that of an oyster. Noobs are born in huge numbers, but most of them die off within a week or so. The few that survive as time goes on grow older and more mature, and sooner or later, they become users instead of noobs. The survivors tend to live for a long time.

newbie=A person who is new and thus has poor lack of skills in that area they are a newbie at.
noob=The same as newbie, but not considered new, just stupid or an idiot or such for their lack of skills etc which are similar to a newbies skills.
k then...

can anyone change the title to lifespan of a newb? so it seems less offensive to new users?

IMO, newbie, newb, and nub all refer to new players, noob refers to bad players, and n00b refers to idiots.

Same in my section, the RPing, if we see a guy who can't RP (we mean RPing in HRPs or DoDRPs like those you know) there's a 3/4 chance that we kick him. The other 1/4 includes teaching him. We don't really see difference between newbs or noobs here, that makes the RPing in Wc3 so small. Many people RP but we 'class' them in two sections: The HRPers, they RP in HRP and other maps like that. And the RPers, they RP almost in every RPable map. It's easy to go from HRPing to RPing, but it's very hard to do it the other way. When I was still a newb at HRPing they were nice and I did the doggy commands jokes (Sit, roll over and play dead), last one was correct and they let me in ^-^ And I'm a very fast learner, I didn't noobed in there, I went quickly to F9 and learned quickly the basic rules. Simple is that, but some other people are erh (no offence) dumb, they just - Ah nevermind you get the picture. But I wanted to say that we need to let ALL people (H)RP. More people = More fun and finally a community here. So we all can - Ah nevermind, I just cut the crap before Raging or some other guy gives me some shitty neg rep for this without no reason. :hohum: People got opinions! :slp:

Most of the people I happen to RP with are either total dumbshits or total zealots. Like some guy made a dungeon in an RP full of people that obviously weren't motivated enough to do a dungeon. I brought it up, and eventually three people left for it. They would be zealots. Other people set painfully high start levels, rig their heroes, things like that. Those would be the dumbshits.

I never like overrigged and uber heroes/units in RP. That's so annoying and low. -.- Just check Dark_Warchief's games, he's a dragon theme addict and rigs his dragons (which are no heroes) to 2,6k hp and +100 damage. That aint nice or fun. Then all people go rig themselves to even the scales. -.-

I only get dumbshits, as in make 3 farms and call it a village, then take an Arthas, set him to level 10, and OMFG TEH LEET RP is born. Then, when people suggest to do a theme, they go "how about no theme?". How do these idiots manage to breathe?

It really depends. And it's wicked hard to tell.

A requester could just as easily quit as someone who joins and makes an intro thread. They could post a bit, then lose interest and forget about the place. Or they could make an intro post, and stay for a year and a half, get promoted twice and get 4000 odd posts like me. You could even go on to do even greater things like Wolverabid, who joined even later and rapidly rose through the ranks as he proved himself invaluable.

It all depends. Really the initial impression you get of the forum is really key.

Honestly, when I first joined the Hive, the site looked killer, so I was hooked in immediately. That might be why i've never gone inactive so far...

If you make a request, and it gets ignored, or you just don't generally like the site itself, you're probably not gonna stay very long.

Big words for the author of the Runescape incident as well as
(I was the first person to ever release a WC3 CnC mod, others copied off my idea, but zt2211's and illidan(evil)x's are ok, their allowed)

IMO, Off-Topic does a damn good job of suckering people in for the long haul. The people that got suckered in by other boards... are heroes.

I'm totally an Off-Topic junkie. Sometimes I lurk on the other boards, but things happen too slow. In fact, I'm sort of an internet junkie.

ITTY BITTY BABY ITTY BITTY BOAT.
