Legends of Warcraft RPG v1.3 + AI

SirFace Presents...

Legends of Warcraft AI RPG
Original by EvilPitlord - Reinvigoration by SirFace

Welcome to the Legends of Warcraft RPG

6 Unique Factions!
Play as one of the 6 available factions: Forces of Stormwind, The Kaldorei, The Horde, The Forsaken, The Scourge, The Illidari.

Complete Quests!
Faction based and neutral quests exist across Azeroth, offering players the opportunity to earn rewards, experience, and even permanent stat bonuses.

Conquer Dungeons!
Powerful instances are located across each of the playable continents, offering more experienced heros the opportunity to defeat legendary bosses and obtain artifacts. The majority of dungeons have level requirements upon entering.

Fight in the Arena!
Verse enemy faction players in the Maelstrom Arena - during special events or dormant periods. The arena can be a quick method for gaining experience and honor, or a quick path to death!

Master Professions!
During the game, players select specific professions - created with the purpose of providing unique character specializations. Professions will level up with your hero, gaining strength in assistance capabilities as you progress through the game.

Reinvigoration project for an existing map
The Legends of Warcraft RPG was created from the base map 'World of Warcraft Reborn' - created by EvilPitlord - but was changed almost entirely, re-purposed.

Enjoy playing the game, this map was created especially for you! ;-)

Game Features:

The game includes many unique and common features. 6 factions are available - all with their own designated Warcraft heros, capital cities, starting areas, continents, and dungeons. Established as a casual open RPG, players are able to engage in whatever they please with no victory/defeat conditions.
Note: Try playing the game with computer slots filled.
Factional, neutral, and PVP NPC Quests
World PVP and arena PVP
4 unique continents
7 unique dungeons
Simple professions
Plenty of items
21 available heros
Stonemaul Gauntlet and regional bounty challenges
Unique commands available
Plenty of sound effects to keep the game alive! !... !

More information on most of the above features can be found in the in-game Quest Log.

AI Focused Project:

The map developer was interested in the idea of developing an RPG AI, allowing individual players to also experience the game and enjoy replay-ability. Primary features of the AI include:
AI Control and engagement across all 6 available factions
Involvement in PVP - Arena challenging
Item buying and obtaining
Quest participation/completion
Dungeon attempts/completion
Custom periodic dialogue >:)
Custom game commands

The AI was perhaps the main focus of the games reinvigoration, engaging with the vast majority of game features.

Author's notes:

- The RPG computer player AI was given a lot of attention. I initiated the project with the desire to build an RPG AI - a casual RPG with replay-ability even for the lone, offline player.
- This map is a reinvigoration project for an original map 'World of Warcraft Reborn' - but is vastly different/borderline unrecognizable.
- Comments regarding bugs/fixes/ideas are most welcome friends. The map was primarily tested offline, and will still likely contain small bugs.
- This map was not intended to be a recreation of Wow, nor was it intended to have 100% accuracy lore wise.
- This map is open source, feel free to take a look at the triggers/design, or do as you please. (Triggers and the Object Editor are fairly messy considering this was based off a previous map, and completely changed).

Quite a nice and entertaining map, but still the map has many spaces to be improved and polished.

Good Points :
  • Functional AI Players : awesome! I was always looking for playmates to enjoy maps such as this together! They can even follow you after level 7, and they speak sometimes as well. Good!

  • Lots of Interesting Contents (especially PvE) : wide variety of creeps, arenas, PvP hero fights, dungeons, random tome drops, etc.

  • Sound Effects

  • Replayability

  • Entertaining for a long time, even better with the great Replayability this game offers.

Bad Points :
  • The game lied... the Naga Sea Witch cannot swim ingame!

Suggestion : Can you please make the Naga Sea Witch amphibious, okay?

  • Not many hero varieties to choose from...

Suggestion : Replace the display heroes on the Hero Selection area into Taverns? That way we can add more heroes easily.

  • I miss building a base like in the original map...

Suggestion : Make players able to choose between Freelancer mode and Builder mode?

  • AI dialogs are almost identical for all computer players.

Suggestion : Add some unique dialogs for each hero-type, and perhaps also add some unique dialogs for specific situations?

  • Too many negative and depressing dialogs from AI, and too few positive and encouraging dialogs from AI

Suggestion : Make the AI players say something encouraging once in a while, for example especially when they're in a killing spree or successfully defeating tough enemies

Overall, quite a nice map but still there are many things to add and to improve. Nice work by the way, I like this map ^^

Awesome, thank you for the review my friend.

The positive comments regarding AI and replay-ability are great to hear!

The suggestions are helpful. I'll consider many of your points for the next version.

- I can allow the Naga Sea Witch to swim (was unaware the amphibious description remained), although it won't be too useful - considering way gates allow easy travel between continents.

- I'll certainly consider the Tavern Idea for easy user hero creation (considering all of the available hero's are merely altered melee)

- Unfortunately, base building would be difficult to incorporate back into this map - considering all the changes and focus on freelancers. Most of the previous building locations are covered with the Capital Cities.

- I was unsure of whether people would care much about the AI Dialogue - since you have provided positive feedback, I'll make some changes to make it more advanced/situational. Yea you're right, many of the comments are negative. Perhaps I'll skew the negative comments more so towards the evil races > : - )

Kindly,

SirFace

You're welcome. :)

- Still, the Naga Sea Witch could escape out of tricky situations with her amphibious ability. Since Naga Sea Witch doesn't have too many fancy abilities, I guess being amphibious could be a big plus for her. Glad to hear that you're making the Naga Sea Witch amphibious once again! Make Naga Great Again!

- Great, Taverns are a good idea.

- Maybe change some abilities into fancier ones, or at least change the visuals so that they feel more awesome to use?

- Never mind, I guess I can live without base building.

- Sure, go forward and improve the AI dialogue! ^^

- Hmm, maybe if your Hero is too high-level or powerful compared to your allies, make the ally AIs speak humbly especially when following me? Just an additional thought.

- Oh, and, what if we have two human players struggling to control the ally AIs by using "-follow" command? Will the "-follow" commands from the two different players override one another?

With 6 unique factions, it was time consuming creating specific quests for each. The neutral quests were available to all classes, so priority was placed on the completion of those.

I intentionally made it repeatable in an attempt to partially deal with this problem - obviously tho in most cases more quests will always be better.

I'll spend some time on developing factional quests more, and perhaps building chains.

1. Avoid playing music through the sound channel. Use the other Play Music trigger.
2. The Duel timer starts during the intro.
3. Far Seer and Blood Mage both have Pheonix!? Mountain King and Taurenchieftain, Avatar?
4. You could change the colour hue or icon of some items to avoid duplicates. You could use these programs for icon editing:
Button Manager v1.8.2
BLP Lab v0.5.0
Complete Icon Tutorial - All About Icons
How to Make an Icon
5. Well, it would be better if abilities weren't Warcraft III ones.
6. You should create the quests in the Quest Log. I'm not sure how much the Log remembers after you load the game.
7. You could highlight the shops with something over them.
8. How do you get out of the Maelstrom Arena once you get in through the circle of power?
9. WERTY hotkeys for spells?
10. Teldrassil Isle has only two inhabitants?
11. Some unit groups are too close to each other and will come to the aid of the attacked.
12. Slay 20 Trolls x3? I guess quests are on repeat?
13. You should set creep camp range to lower because their ranged units attack you at the moment they see you not if you get closer to them.
14. Naga units don't have their level mentioned under their name.
15. Should not teleport the hero back to the town after the duel but instead with the same HP & mana it had to the position it was teleported to the arena.

Overall it's a grind and repeat but I guess World of Warcraft fans would love it.

Approved.

Always check/recheck the Map Submission Rules! (Map Submission Rules)

To make your work run smoother, fix the so called leaks: Triggers - Memory Leaks and Custom Scripts

2. The Duel timer starts during the intro.
Ah, yes, also the same for the time limit for Mass Hero command...

3. Far Seer and Blood Mage both have Pheonix!? Mountain King and Taurenchieftain, Avatar?
Was always wondering how the heck did a Far Seer player got its hand with a Phoenix, until I figured that out myself.

4. You could change the colour hue or icon of some items to avoid duplicates. You could use these programs for icon editing:
Hmm, that's a nice idea.

5. Well, it would be better if abilities weren't Warcraft III ones.
Yes! The game will be better with fancy abilities, or at least creative mix of different abilities with the visuals changed at least somewhat.

6. You should create the quests in the Quest Log. I'm not sure how much the Log remembers after you load the game.
Uhm, every Quest made for a Quest Log will be also seen by all other players... Also some quests are repeatable, and each player will have their own progress for each quest.

Maybe a "-currentquests" command will work better?

8. How do you get out of the Maelstrom Arena once you get in through the circle of power?
I've tried it, you have to wait until the game sends you back to the town a moment later.

9. WERTY hotkeys for spells?
Hell yeah! This will help greatly! QWERTY über alles!

11. Some unit groups are too close to each other and will come to the aid of the attacked.

Uhm yes... it's annoying when I'm starting weak

12. Slay 20 Trolls x3? I guess quests are on repeat?
Seems soo...

I've exploited this to make my hero level up quicker than others, get free exp and earn gold.

13. You should set creep camp range to lower because their ranged units attack you at the moment they see you not if you get closer to them.

I took a look at the triggers, seems that the author has set the global acquisition range to 600 for all creps, that's a bit too high for sure.

15. Should not teleport the hero back to the town after the duel but instead with the same HP & mana it had to the position it was teleported to the arena.

+1

Also, I could lure creep bosses out of their dungeons and then kill them much more easier.

Hello everyone, thank you for the comments.

Deepstrasz - I appreciate your time for reviewing the map. I agree with the vast majority of the points you've raised, including the conclusion 'Overall it's a grind and repeat'.
I believe the game can be significantly improved with additional content - increasing gameplay options for a game which can progress slowly.
The AI took the vast majority of my time while working on this re-invigoration project, unfortunately leading to less hero changes and content additions.
I'll spend the time I have available updating many of the mentioned points. Perhaps I have a bias for the regular wc3 hero abilities - I returned to the game recently after a long dormant period - and rather enjoyed the nostalgia factor associated. I realise that this enjoyment factor would certainly differ for the majority of players, particularly the more regular ones.

Directive255 - Thank you for your continued comments! You're helping a lot with the maps development.
I've fixed the -mass command problem after the insertion of the cinematic in the recent update, and will continue to gradually insert new quests, and customise hero abilities.
As suggested by both yourself and deepstrasz, I'll adjust the acquisition range figures to ensure creep agro range is not to problematic - especially for the early stage of the game.
As for your earlier comment about the -follow command and how it operates when 2 players use it on the same team - honestly, I have NO IDEA MUHAHAHAHAHA... I assume they'll default to following the lower player number.

nhs325 - Your compliments are most welcome! Enjoy playing the game, and test out the AI if you haven't already. :)

I'll be preparing a new update - more substantial then the recent one which inserted: the two mega bosses and the cinematic. Let me know if any of you have comments on the AI, and whether it seems too robotic in particular circumstances.

Hey, I just want to say that I've been playing this map for a couple days and I seriously appreciate someone making an RPG with actual functional AI. However, I'm not going to rate it currently because at its current standing I would only give it a 3/5, and I desperately want to give it more because it plays like a 4/5 map, but I feel as though a few things need to be improved first.

- The terrain is uneven in quality, certain areas like the Northrend spawn / hub are poorly designed due to too much overhead, and makes it relatively clunky to keep track of your character.
- This isn't an issue for me since I have a higher end computer, but one of the friends I've been playing this map with has somewhat of a wooden computer and the memory leaks are hitting him pretty hard. From what I understand this was a re-working of another map, so I think when you have the time you should go through and make sure your variables and triggers are cleaned up a bit.

I also have a few suggestions for the future of the map if you're willing to listen (these are just things that I personally feel would boost the quality of your map even more)

- Difficulty settings for AI (Easy, Medium, Hard), that way more novice players who want a bit of an easier run won't be off-put by the difficulty curve around level 15.
- Additional settings for duel timer (Every 20, 40, or 60 minutes)

(I understand more quests are on the way in future versions, and am very much looking forward to playing those).

I believe the creator of this map is no longer active, but I would GREATLY love to try this map with my friends and can't due to prohibitively debilitating performance issues.

Is there anyone else who has gotten it to work laglessly on their client? What is causing the lag?

I have previously downloaded file which I thought was discarded but it works smooth for singleplayer atleast. I'll attach it.
