Well the fact that the server has a near 0 cost and they probably do not have full time employees + can have advertising. Probably not as you can easilly make money with that (thats how youtube works). However I do not see them becomming big as if their thing is at all popular eithor Square enix, activision blizzard or EA will buy them out in a flash.

It's the only way I'll even think about trying the game. I'd never pay for it. I think it's a smart move, but will probably fail anyways. So would making us pay for the game though. I think the game is doomed to fail no matter what.

That's great news. I'd never pay for it. You know, there are free MMOs that are quite good, but none of them is great. This game is nothing compared to a professionally made games. Not to mention originality.
Anyway, I may try it for lets say.... a week.

Many MMORPGs are free and their developers survive on micro transactions. Nothing new. These guys might actually do it if they attract enough dota fans.

Well, I'll check it out then if it's free. However if this game gets the dota community it's doomed to fail hard.

Actually I don't think that will be a problem at all. With their matchmaking system, the pros will fight pros and the newbs will fight newbs.

I hate matchmaking systems. It hardly works in any game I've ever seen it implemented in (With the POSSIBLE exception of Halo 3)

Most notably Gears 2.
