    Honestly what disappoints me in modern social media is the fact that we constantly get exposed to the worst part of the opposing political opposition. Elaborating:

    My conservative friends' feed is solely made of things like "gay couple sues Christian bakers for refusing to make their wedding cake", or compilations of "dumb feminists answering questions at a parade", while the feed of my liberal friends are made of the exact same content, except it's a compilation of conservative people answering questions poorly at a republican rally, or some gay couple being threatened or beaten somewhere in the countryside.

    With time we learn not to empathize with people of the opposing political spectrum:
    • We are daily fed with cases of conservative/liberal people trespassing the boundaries of the acceptable;
    • We tend to have friends who think similarly and contribute to this feed;
    • The average, next-door liberal/conservative is rarely as vocal and radicalized as the ones that we see in those revolting news articles;
    • Many of my friends and family are at the point in which they low-key agreed with last year's acts of murder and assault at conservative/leftist rallies (according to their personal belief of which ones deserved to be killed, ofc). I mean, my friends and family are regular, non-violent people! They didn't even have a defined political stand until 2014 or so. They aren't so radicalized;
    • I wasn't even commenting on exaggerated, sensationalist content made solely to infuriate the reader.
    This is very sad.

    Also, we will never get rid of the opposing political spectrum, so bonus points for empathy and learning to coexist. Not even in the dictatorship of our dreams we'll get rid of the ideology we've grown to hate.

    Anyway, this is a personal perception of reality. I may be wrong.

    Today there are happy slaves. Before, there were unhappy ones.
    It's not only me that benefits from the freedom of today compared to before 89. I'd rather not make nostalgic communists happy because objectively, it was worse back then.
    There are sad cases of post communist countries, yes but the majority's fate is much better. Democracy, in general has shown better results than any other 20-21st century form of government. Of course it is exploitable, no system is perfect. It's the people that make it. In my country, most of the politicians of today, are former communists or relatives of those people. However, due to the EU and NATO things got much better say if we were to side with Russia since Russia's tactics are much more aggressive even towards its neighbours as opposed to the USA who are more aggressive towards the Middle East and Northern Africa. When you are a meaningless country (in terms of power but not strategical means) you only have the option to choose a side, the better one, not become neutral like Switzerland. We don't have international banks like there, and certainly are not situated mostly on mountains and certainly don't have citizens with weapons like they do. Of course, the future is uncertain and we don't know what will happen after this Russia (probably China too)-USA or East-West war ends, if it ever will in some "good" way. Maybe afterwards we'll all be subjugated under a world wide fascist state. I can't tell, maybe it'll be communism utopia or an imperial democracy (if that even exists).
    Superpowers will always look for their interest and defense first, it's logical. You can't make things better for others if you can't do it for yourself first. So, sacrifices like the Arab Spring, and things you've mentioned are sometimes necessary. Sadly, that usually comes with devastating effects on those countries who have to undergo such a sacrifice for the plan to go on somehow, by any means. The USA can't simply occupy the state they want to control, it's not that simple, diverse stratagems are executed which sometimes take years to reach fruition or at least some benefit. Think of it as an economic and military jungle where countries fight for their position over the other in order to survive. Corruption is either a disease in this context or simply another part of the opposition. If we were all to live happily ever after, equal, we'd have to all share everything, especially wealth, then we would be like in parts of India were you'd follow a religious philosophy for the good of all but not go anywhere technologically and even then you can't simply brainwash everyone. Some will still want to get to do things differently, their way, in the manner they think it'd be good for them or for the world.
    I'm really sorry for your countries recent past. Much horror and unfairness you have gone through. What can we do? The past is set, the future, uncertain. But, sometimes, if not most of the time, the people will have to do something and not wait like the resistance in the mountains in Romania during the early Communist years did, believed the Americans will come to the rescue.
    Always, someone has to profit from a conflict. It's the smartest thing to do to survive. So, conflicts will not cease, surely.
    The problem is that many of them are causing issues for themselves and the anti-LBGT movements are the reaction. I'm sure, that if they for instance had less ostentatious parades and dressed like people instead of weird fashion models, then people would look at the movement differently. Also, in many cases they are very sensitive. They should be the ones to show that tolerance is important not blame and accuse. Sure, I'm not saying they shouldn't fight for rights but imagine if straight people would start reporting other people on the internet because they were called homosexual or whatever and then police started arresting the offenders. I mean, maybe in this case that person was indeed harassed, who knows but I don't this to become a thing where you get arrested for some stupid internet talk.
    Indeed but rarely do we have news articles with detailed and conspicuous data. We can't simply ignore just ignore all news. We should ask questions and investigate how we can and try to see the reason behind something. I mean, for instance, many people in the USA wouldn't say something like you wrote if it was related to Donald J. Trump. They'd probably take it for granted because he's been stigmatized since he ran for election and it's possible that much of the negative text that has been put on him might not be true. So, we can't just dismiss news based on not having all the specifics.

    @Naze yeah sure, news are either many times exaggerated or the media just likes the shock factor. But the problem here is a bit different than being beaten. That's not necessarily case sensitive because both straight people and non-straight can get beaten and be judged the same way but when it comes to sexual orientation and sex identity things tend to be more inclined in the favour of the non-straight people.
    Of course there is a lot of fake and/or exaggerated news but in this particularly case, who is right then and who exaggerates? It's problematic. There's an issue on one side, but on which? On both? But then you can't only have one side wronged.

    @deepstrasz good conversation man, I mostly agree with you, you sum it nicely.
    Here are some things anyway:

    haha good one!
    But happy-slave those two contradict themselves, one can't be slave and be happy, but yes, some are in better position than others although in 21. century there should not be slaves. But hey! This is democracy. We progress. We will soon have lasers and astronauts on Mars, but still will have happy slaves :cgrin:

    Oh, I was wrong, its my fault that I forgot to explain you situation better. Your country as far I know remains same in size after communism. China too, SSSR got decreased in size and people, but Russia is still one of the most powerful countries in world and biggest in size. Only my country is specific. Back then in SFRJ, there were several countries in communist one: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and herzegovina (with at least two inside it as well), Serbia, Montenegro, macedonia and this Kosovo. So, we were much bigger in size and population (around 20 millions as far I remember). So, bigger country, more people, more work. After WWII country is being rebuilt. In communism we got almost everything. vast majority of people got jobs, whoever finishes school gots job automatically, or move to another place to find job quickly. My grandmother was nurse. She immediately found job and even took her friend with her. My grandfather moved to few jobs until he found good one. My father, mother and rest of family, everyone got jobs! And still work at same place, most of them. Everyone got jobs at communism, and socialism later. Many people in my country and my city directly even got free apartments! Yes, you wont believe me, even I still do not know how, but they literally built many many buildings for people. Electronic industrion factory in my city had about 15-20 000 people to work there! Someone not to believe. Food, money, apartments, jobs, everything! Real utopia one may say. But here is catch. It was still communism, you could not say anything against government or you will literally dissapear. Just mention some joke and you will end in prison. No free media, no private companies and no anti govermnent parties! And there is one very very bad thing. We had ,,great leader". And he and communists are to be believed at words, especially because they made people to have everything enough. Corruption you say? Sure but nobody could care since many people got jobs and what they need. And all of this illusion worked until ,,great leader" died. Then shit happened. Every local leader abused communist mentality (people believed in politicians without questions, as you noticed, brainwashed), and started to fight for his course. he just show point at someone and people would believe him. Local politicians tried to made great Serbia (taking some parts of other countries), some of nazi Croatians, Montenegro Mafia, some of Muslim fanatics in Bosnia, great albania (same as great serbia), Kosovo separatists, whatever.... And people there believed them and started to hate each other (since politicians actually point fighters at other nations making them enemies, and everyone of us against each other). rest you know, bloody wars. Shitstorm even today. And yes, it all started in communism. However, thanks to people mentality it spreads even into democratic worlds.

    And again, there is difference than here. Unlike your country, my politicians were in charge during wars! its not just corruption in question, it is involvement in wars. Spreading constantly anti EU propaganda and battling Eu they can, and suddenly now they all are pro EU.

    Oh I was not defending Russia either. They also took Crimea and japanese islands and that part near Poland. But here is point, ask average Americans and they will tell you how bad Russia is. Ask Americans about their own country, and they will not know shit. They even do not know what overseas territories USA offically have, yet to know that they have about 160+ or 180+ military bases around world, messing into every single country's election and business etc etc... Classical ,,democratic" propaganda ,,We are the best, we fight oppressors in world, we are saviors". That is how EU functions as well. Again, not defending Russia, I just state that westerns knows what Russia does, but in turn they forgot (intentionally or not) what their countries do globally.

    Well Switzerland is neutral because everyone put money there. Whoever invades it, he will shoot at his own investment and money, that is how they manage to remain neutral. But yes, basically you are right.

    I forgot to mention that because I though it is common fact. But yes. Always someone profits. East/West. They are same in this case as well.

    I completely agree on that one.

    Exactly! Just what you said.
    I would just like to add that media creates shit the most cases, to contrary belief that they should inform neutrally people about what happened.
    Modern media tend to be private stick for fighting for politicians or rich people. Here literally they used to call themselves ,,thief, murder" and all of that in public news or newspaper.

    What does LGBT in shorten mean anyway?

    Yeah but most of it is nature, not necessarily resources.
    I'm not saying there had been no advantages during Communism here but times were getting worse, debts were growing and we had so many years during the last part of Communism with lights turned off early plus when you had to stay in line for a certain amount of food products per day. You couldn't get out of the country to visit or study abroad. Rarely did they approve for you to go abroad for some interest and many who did never came back. And many more. People who somehow had become richer or had money, didn't have much what to do with it. You couldn't find stuff to buy in abundance like today. We knew of oranges during winter holidays. I really can't say that was overall enjoyable.
    We didn't get free apartments, we had to pay the rent but you'd get an apartment assured for you and your family.
    Yeah, exactly the censorship and freedom limit of thinking and expression was strictly enforced on people. It's what I was saying in the previous post.
    Because of the lack of things then, most people were stealing stuff from the place they were working at, clothes, food products etc. or exchanging them with others for different things.
    It was bound to happen. When throughout history did people live in such peace without wars, internal struggles and if they did how long did it last?
    We had the miner raids when miners were brought in to "stop" (they beat and killed) the protesters in Bucharest and most of them were students and to this day the mastermind was not held responsible and is still living although very old. The current ruling party is pro EU as a facade. They are talking behind EU's back here and with them when they go on official trips. We've been made the ridicule of the EU. We hadn't had made a proper highway in 20 years. Money is wasted by the corrupts for their own interests, mostly and investments are low to nonexistent. We're getting more indebted to the EU each year thing that didn't happen at this rate with the previous ruling party (not referring to Communism).
    and the most aircraft carriers in the world.
    I didn't write you were. I admire Russia for debunking much fake news the West spreads. We have a more impartial view of things due to them. However, being ruled by them is totally different.
    or just take all the money for themselves :D? It's not easy to invade that country at all.

    Well in schools and university I studied different. In their Siberian region there are tons of natural resources, one of largest in the world, thanks to unique region and very very cold climate. It is known here that many people from my country went there to mine diamonds. Very harsh conditions but very paid job.
    Oh, also if you believe wikipedia ,,Siberian natural resources refers to resources found in Russian Siberia, in the North Asian Mainland. The Siberian region is rich in resources, including coal, oil and metal ores"
    So, yes. They are very very rich as country by natural resources. If that is being used for good of people is another subject. But they enforce military that is definitively. They rapidly used those resources for Soviet union.

    Oh, Idid not know this. So shit is happening there even today? I though it is calmed there now. But i did hear actually about some protests before.

    But you still have Dracula to save you haha! You got your trademark! :cgrin:

    Well direct money and gold, it is true. But big part of it is online as well.
    It is easy to invade if you got tons of rockets. Wait second.... You are talking to demon that something mortal is not easy to invade! We are experts at invading. And corrupting. We did that to countless worlds yet again to one small country :cgrin:

    Oh thanks! its always pleasure to have one American supporting you!

    This is true for all opinions, which is why feminism is portrayed as "man haters", vegans as die-hard preachers, gamers as right-radical anti-feminists, etc. Etc. "Politics" is all strawmen and tribalism, which I no longer actively participate in discussions about it.

    What is it if you are a girl who behaves as a girl and looks as a girl but does many boy things but never likes boys and hardly like hot girls?

    Is that lesbian or tomboy?

    IMO Tomboy is more of style, but I believe the absence of attraction to either sexes is called "Asexual"

    Can of worms subject if there ever was:

    • On one hand allowing trans-female athletes that dominate a field will result in heavy criticism directed on them being at one point a man rather than skill and endurance of their own accord, creating a toxic environment for trans-female athletes and create more resentment for the trans-community which is even more damaging if you consider the already shocking suicide rate.
    • On the other hand banning them outright or forcing them to join their past gender's sport would result in claims of bigotry and hate crime.

    If everyone challenging the trans-althete in their selected discipline agree's to participate then I see no issue, however it might lead to criticism aimed at the those who would refuse.

    Truly a mind-numbing topic.

    I have to be honest TLDR lol....

    Well... i read parts of this thread and i found the different opinions pretty interesting...i actually didnt expect them to differ this much from each other Oo

    I just have to say one thing:
    Do what you want cause a pirate is free...as long as you dont bother other people with it.
    And THAT is exactly what the LGBT Movements are trying to do rn. They try to force their ideology and stuff onto other people...sometimes in really ridiculous ways. (changing century old Language into strangely complex constructs to fit everybodys preference would be one example)
    And if it doesnt work they get strangely aggressive and try to harm the person that didnt agree. Some even go that far to ruin someones life by making Rape claims or sth like that.

    As is said...do what you want, but dont harm other people while doing so.

    Here's something you'll all find hilarious.
    Over the span of the last six months I've been called transphobic no less than 10 times for not wanting to date someone who's trans.
    I have gender dysphoria myself, but I've made the decision to never transition because it would drastically reduce my quality of life overall.

    Apparently "I want my own biological kids" isn't valid to them anymore because "I shouldn't be having kids in a world like this."

    How did you end up in a situation where you had to explain your tastes?
    Dating in itself is highly discriminatory, people in general need to accept this.
