is it possible to replace the harddrive of a dvd recorder

i am just wondering because i need a lot of space. if it is possible i wonder how big the harddrive can be without it causing any trouble. please respond quickly.

OFCOURSE IT IS! The only real problem here is if the new one will fit the metal thing which hold your PC's hardware. Size does matter here! <3

Also ... I heard that the bigger is the hardspace, the better processor you need! As long as you have at least a dual core, you can hold like half TB with out lagging or so. You better read what DSG says anyway! He is like expert in science and hardware.

seems that you misunderstood me. i dont want to install a dvd recorder harddrive in a pc but upgrade my dvd recorder to get more space. is that possible.

If the firmware allows it then it is. I heard that you may need to pre-format the drive for many commercial recorders to recognize it but generally it should not be a problem.

Bigger does not always mean better. Write performance is very important for such devices or they may be forced to lower quality or drop frames so make sure the drive you replace it with has at least equal or better write performance.

i have 2 recorders: 1 lg and 1 panasonic with 160 gigabytes each. how big harddrives can i expect to fit into them.

Depends on what shape of hard drive they can accept. 160 GB is small so I am guessing they use small, performance drives (for write speed) so do not expect more than 500GB maximum.

Smaller disk radius = faster disk rotation = faster read/write speed.
What limits rotation speed is the integrity of the platter. If it were to be rotated too fast, something like this would happen.

I know they are not the most scientific, but at the end they do show you what I am talking about.
