Gods Against the Darkness



Intro



On the dawn of the universe, a destructive force dwelled free, long before any shine of life. Although considered a primordial force,
it has grown corrupted, envious, of what gods and man have built. Rebellions, separations, wars with so much destruction such
as the Titanomachy and the Aesir-Vanir War almost delivered Chaos emergence. It was able to manifest itself in weaker forms
throughout history, but went unnoticed. But as the howling wind whispers, something awkward lies before it... The air itself got heavy,
becoming hard to breath even. Chaos has awoken, and promised to end life itself. The Evil will not act by itself, and neither should you.
Gather up your light and strength, unite, for the continuance of existence lies within your hands.




Plot

In the Gods Against the Darkness universe, Greek, Egyptian and Norse pantheons exists in concomitance, but in different parts of the same existential plane.
However, none of them are aware of each other existence and the events occurring in one pantheon don't intervene with the other, until now.

Chaos is a manifestation that seems to exist in all mythologies, in some of them there are characters that exists solely to fight it everyday.
Ragnarök is the norse term for the prophesized deaths of most divine beings and the beginning of a new era in the universe. Chaos being the
primordial and omnipresent entity in all mythologies, promised to unleash destruction upon all pantheons and be the main harbinger of Ragnarök.
The game starts with a brief interaction between
Chaos and the three first Olympians, Zeus, Hades and Poseidon, as the entity declares his intentions.




Gameplay



Your mission is to defend the allied bases against the march of Darkness up the mountain where a sacred structure lies, using only but a God with its unique set of abilities. Gold is earned by killing enemies and will be essential to arm your character as powerful as possible, because each wave of monsters increases difficulty and complexity. There are more than 95 custom items and each one can help you or your team scale against the evil. All resistance bases have shops and regeneration fountains to aid the gods. Although being a vast map, moving across it is made easier with instant teleport locations and Scroll of Teleport for sale. Although is possible alone, the map offers an experience that is better playing with at least 3 players, at the maximum of 5 players. If confident enough, the players are invited to try a Hard mode on mode selection. There are currently 31 gods available to play with.
Minimap can be toggled on/off or can be changed it's position to the player's preference.
Enable and tune up In-game music for a immersive and epic experience.

This map requires the latest version of Warcraft III: Reforged and plays exclusively on SD graphics.

The Greeks are represented by their most iconic characters: Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Hephaestus, Ares, Typhon, Nemesis, Artemis and Athena. (From left to right)

Known Issues

The map current user interface may not be compatible with custom key mapping and positioning, causing they player to not be able to see their hero's spells.
Screens that play on bigger resolution than 1080p (1920x1080) may experience some issues with the interface positioning.
Activating the minimap more than 2 times might cause a visual glitch on patch 2.0.

I thought assets were part of the credits. I removed them and did the proper edit to the description adding all the content that I could find.

Why is the author different from the username?
The author name was a pseudonym I used a few years back, I don't know how I can prove it though. Inside the map info there are contact info, which includes my Discord and email, the same that are linked to this account.

I started playing the game, and right from the start, I could tell something was seriously wrong. The biggest issue is that the mini-map has been deleted, so I have no idea where my hero is at any time. It seems like you're trying to do what Reforged attempted to do, which is to change the existing UI, but the original UI was already perfect. It's okay to make slight changes, but this is too much. Please reintroduce the mini-map, and then I might consider giving this game another chance. Until then, it's unplayable.

I started playing the game, and right from the start, I could tell something was seriously wrong. The biggest issue is that the mini-map has been deleted, so I have no idea where my hero is at any time.

There were a few requests about toggling part of the interface on and off. By default, the minimap starts off in the beginning of the game but can be easily activated on your right or left side of your screen, by pressing the checkboxes next to your level or gold. Right in the pick phase there are some useful tips being displayed to all players.

Ok, you were right, I have to apologize, still.. the minimap should be on by default, so ppl like me don't freak out when they don't see the mini-map at the start of the game and insta quit.

I gave the map a try and played on easy with the hero that has the Arthas model, he was fun to play as, 2 nice aoe line spells, 1 healing aoe spell, and the ultimate which just gave me more basic dmg, i think the ultimate was rather bland and weak compared to the other spells tho.

I played on the latest version of Deforged with classic graphics.

I managed to win solo, first try baby, tho it was on easy mode. :ogre_datass:

What can I say, I appreciate all the great things about this map, even though I initially disliked the changes to the classic War3 U.I. I eventually got used to it. The gameplay was fun, and there were plenty of items and recipes to choose from. I especially enjoyed the different mythological aspects of the units, heroes, and items with the Greek, Norse, and Egyptian themes.

The items were also pretty unique and interesting. At first, I struggled to find the items for some recipes, but I eventually managed. Also, that +750 stats item is ridiculously overpowered, especially considering it only costs 35k gold :eekani:. When I found that item, I saved money for it and eventually bought two by the end of the game. I did have a lifestyle item and some others, but that gem is by far the strongest item and so easy to buy. It's wild that there's not even a recipe for it.

The waves themselves were interesting with different units from each type of hell, I liked that, I would have loved it if there had been more boss waves tho.

The last wave had the 2 bosses, the Hydra boss, and the big Wolf boss, and they were fine, the end game Chaos Boss :spell_breaker: was super fun to fight against tho, I loved all the different transformations he was doing, that was the highlight of the game for me, he was a challenge alright, he managed to kill me 2 times, the only times I died during the whole game.

A negative I noticed while playing the game was that I had no idea at which wave I was. There should be some sort of number that indicates the current wave I am at the moment in some corner.

A big positive is the music, and the fact that I could deactivate it or activate it and that is not linked with the gameplay sounds, I noticed most maps have this weird bug where the music volume is linked to the sound effect volume and when I try to deactivate one it deactivates both... that to me is a huge problem since I like to play custom maps with my music usually, and for that, I must applaud you for this simple yet effective future.

Finally, I want to mention that the intro cinematic was, well, special, let's say :xxd:. I have mixed feelings about it; I don't particularly like it, but I don't dislike it either, it's good there is a skip option, I liked that, don't get me wrong tho, I would rather see a cinematic than just nothing but I am not the biggest fan of this kind of mixing of classic war3 sounds with some other sounds, I assumed they were from some movie or game, either way, it was a bit awkward and a bit long, in my mind I think it would be better if you did all the voices with A.I. from Elevenlabs for example, they got lots of samples of different voices to choose from, and is quite fun to play with them.

The reason I'm discussing the opening cinematic at the end of the review is because, to my surprise, there is no ending cinematic for the map. After the Chaos boss dies, I instantly get the victory box. Since you put so much effort into the opening cinematic, I suggest giving some love to the ending as well by creating a cinematic for it. It's like the reward players get for completing the map. Just getting the victory box feels kind of underwhelming, not gonna lie.



Overall I liked the map, a nice edit of the original Archimonde classic map from the og campaign.

My rating for it is an 𝓢 Tier (Masterpiece) with 90 out of 100 points. Great job :infl_thumbs_up:

whats wrong with downloading assets (models/icons/etc i presume?) all maps have these

Like the map, it's a nice hero defense map with nice music. Balance seems to be generally on point from the heroes I've seen so far, with only one exception, Atlas. There isn't a single defense map ever where I've seen that infinitely stacking stats on kill is a good idea.

If someone picks Atlas he just wants to hog all the kills for himself, and rightfully so. The hero design incentivizes it, which just kills the experience for other players. He's max str gained should have a cap like I've seen on some other heroes.

Having to spam the same spell every 12s on Artemis for 2h to maintain multi-shot is just absolutely tedious and I see no reason to not just have a normal multi-shot, and/or have an active part with a higher cd for more multi targets.

It's nice to have customizable UI but the mini map should absolutely be on by default. I've had people just straight up quit because of the confusion.

I see. There is no room for greed in the map, unless people settle for just farming and killing mobs. I've made tests with powerful greed combos and none of them succeeded in finishing the Chaos Boss alone and I assure you that no hero can finish the game by themselves (Normal Mode or higher).

As for the other suggestions, I'll take a look, because Blizzard's new update broke the map and it's not playable anymore on the newest patch.

Hello! Thank you for the map, I have been enjoying it.

As I understand, the map is intended to be soloable on easy mode? I was unable to solo or duo the final boss on Easy. For context in my duo attempt, I had 4 Erebus, among other items, giving me almost 10k damage and over 40k health. I also had a Lunar Spear, giving me a clone with almost the same dps as I had. I was only able to take the boss to yellow health before needing to heal. Eventually, the final boss killed all the buildings.

Am I missing something? Is the boss not killable by normal means? Any insight would be appreciated.

It's pretty killable. Going full auto-attack and stats might not be the way to it, tho. Check if you have more damage instances other than physical, like magic and pure damage (a.k.a psychophysical). When not playing solo, try chaining stun him or exploring cooldown reductions.
