Gnoll Campaign Version
C1V1R6, Released on November 30, 2020
Chapters: 1
Voiced Chapters: 1
Release: 6

Due to high amount of content present in each chapter (and long develop times thereof), we will release the Gnoll Campaign chapter-by-chapter. It took us about 1200 man-hours to plan and develop the first chapter and we believe that the subsequent chapters will require a like amount of effort.

Required Warcraft III Version
Warcraft III: Reforged, Patch 1.35.0 or later (SD graphics)

Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Support

You can play the campaign using the old client, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Patch 1.30.4 (get it here), although it is no longer recommended.

Installation Instructions
As of Warcraft III: Reforged patch 1.35.0, you can install the campaign as follows:

Windows
  1. Download GnollCampaign-C1V1R6.w3n from the Hive Workshop (using the big download button)
  2. Copy GnollCampaign-C1V1R6.w3n to Documents\Warcraft III\Campaigns. If the Campaigns folder does not exist, you must create it.
macOS
  1. Download GnollCampaign-C1V1R6.w3n from the Hive Workshop (using the big download button)
  2. Open Finder.
  3. Press and hold the OPTION/ALT key down, then go to the Finder menu in the top menu bar and open the "Go" menu. When you are holding the OPTION/ALT key down, the Library option will appear in the dropdown menu. Click "Library". Now you are in the Library folder.
  4. Open Application Support → Blizzard → Warcraft III.
  5. Create a "Campaigns" folder, if it does not exist.
  6. Copy GnollCampaign-C1V1R6.w3n to the Campaigns folder.
Playing the Gnoll Campaign
  1. Start Warcraft III: Reforged.
  2. Select Single Player → Custom Campaign.
  3. Select Gnoll Campaign in the file menu.
  4. Click Play Campaign.
Selecting the Right Difficulty
Easy: If you have been long time away from Warcraft III and you have not honed your skills to play the game lately, please choose the Easy difficulty.

Normal: If you know how the game functions, you are able to use hero abilities effectively, train a good mix of units, and create a good army, but you do not consider yourself as a super-good player, we recommend playing on the Normal difficulty.

Hard: If you are actually pretty good at the game, you can use hero and unit abilities to the maximum effect, you are able to micro units well, you know how to build an extremely effective army, and you know well what different abilities, items, and upgrades do, we recommend that you play on the Hard difficulty.

If even the Easy difficulty is too difficult for you, please consider using Warcraft III built-in cheats to make the game even easier.

Solutions to Puzzles
You can find the solutions to the puzzles on gnollcampaign.com.

Trailer Movie on YouTube
You can watch the trailer movie on YouTube, if it does not work for you in-game.

A credits list is required. You can use this as help: Gnoll Campaign
This includes sounds and music, external material you've used which does not belong to you.

This is a campaign. The RPG tag doesn't quite fit as that is usually used for non-campaign maps.

Awaiting Update.

  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

Hello to all , i installed a Warcraft 3 1.29 patch on my windows 7 , and cant find a custom campaigns in a single player selecton .
Anyone help please ?

@Tommi Gustafsson ,
Oh, a new campaign, I'll be sure to enjoy it :)
Does that mean that you guys won't be releasing chapter 4 of Dwarf Campaign any time soon?
Actually, we decided to swap the story to the gnoll campaign in much the same way that Blizzard has race-specific campaigns, which continue each other's story. Thus, there won't be Dwarf Campaign Chapter 4. Instead, you can expect the Gnoll Campaign to continue, but it requires some time as it took us about 9 months to plan and develop the Chapter 1: Shipwrecked in Yeenador. We used about 1200 man-hours for it.

This is unfair (I've been fooled involuntarily. I usually play betas/demos on request). You've not mentioned that this is not finished. For such projects you should use: Map Development

The story isn't that engaging. It's pretty standard: the good guys vs the big bad villains.

1. Not sure if one unit should have both the web and the net.
2. NEW UNIT ACQUIRED each time shouldn't appear for the same unit.
3. When saving the Overseer you don't get any NEW UNIT message.
4. Gnoll Warden mostly=Orc Shaman.
5. Gnoll (worker) is like naming Peasant->Human and Peon->Orc.
6. You should find different models for some buildings you've used from the other races.
7. Luna's spells are too usual. Why not conceive original ones?
8. Units selected during cinematic mode (finding the temple). I think it might be a general thing.
9. Maybe let the info about the temple in the scene before where you see it from afar?
10. The Corrupted Ancient Protector attack animation is bugged. You should find a suitable replacement and/or a skin for the normal protector.
11. I think there shouln't be a cinematic scene for almost everything you meet. Either leave it as a mystery or use transmissions during gameplay instead.
12. Yenadorian gnolls could have that yellowish skin too. For some reasons, they also have the Gnolls as workers.
13. Might want to find some new upgrade icons for damage and armour.
14. I have nothing against big buildings but at least there should be enough space to construct them.
15. I think you should reduce the Overseer's food to 4 since the aura only works from one of them and with the upgrade for the Brutes, the HP isn't too much of a difference between the two.
16. Not sure it's a good idea to mix items with units and upgrades in buildings.
17. Altar of Gu'rathul has its HP bar too high.
18. I think for 1 food the workers harvest too few lumber compared to normal game moving while harvesting workers.
19. Permanent attribute giving items are not such a good idea when you can wait on them to make your hero stronger. Actually... they have a really long cooldown.
20. Explore Yeenador isn't marked as completed after its requirement is grayed out.
21. When meetig the axe virtuoso, the supreme warden does not get near the campfire. They talk from a distance with Luna off screen.
22. Gnarl has the Mountain King's abilities with changed icons...
23. How does Zul'Maran know how to use spirit wood if they haven't been there for generations?
24. I think requirement should also be grayed on the screen (quest message) when a quest is completed.
25. Cinematic scenes/mode cannot be skipped, at least not with ESC.
26. Purchase Scroll of the Beast has no visible hotkey.
27. Play music using the other trigger to not hear it through the sound channel.
28. Enemy heroes do not have glow. You can add that: How to add Hero Glow without Modeling
29. Some troll upgrade icons=those of the gnolls.
30. Try not using same icons which in the original game represent something known for example the Maks of Death's. If it's a new item, find a new, suitable icon.
31. After all dialogues are finished on a NPC, there should be no dialogue box with only "Bye" showing. The exclamation mark should also disappear.
32. There are places where the terrain could look more natural, not flat, for example where the big lizard dwells.
33. Wand of Negation costs the same as 3 charges of Wand of Dispelling. The first item is permanent.
34. When a game is loaded you should pick all previously acquired items and remove them not to have black spots appearing instead of their former places.
35. If you press ESC during the mantras scene after the big fire has been lit, you can't get out of the scene anymore as it doesn't even finish by itself.
36. Pretty much trial and error until you realize you have to try 4 of the same mantra words for a small fire to light up. There should be a hint about that otherwise people might try different ones each time trying to light one small fire.
37. No upgrade for the troll hero like the other two hero have?
38. It's somewhat confusing that the oil dissolves in the fountains and wells instead of being thrown out even if it might be somehow logical.
39. So the other items in the temple were just a distraction or would they be useful later on (but without knowing it)?
40. Two heroes with the same spell: Force of Nature.
41. Luna talks with the Keeper of the Grove from an outerscreen experience.
42. Animations freeze if the que animation trigger isn't used or playing another one somewhat immediately when a triggered animation ends. I'm referring to cinematic scenes, especially the one with Luna, the lantern and the fire.
43. The bridges in the last zone are kind of improperly placed. You can use CTRL+PAGE UP to raise them.
44. Why did they risk going into the labyrinth's anteroom without finding their chief first if that was their top priority?

Awaiting Update until it is completed.

Custom campaign button missing after single mode selection
That happens when you are playing Reign of Chaos. You need to buy The Frozen Throne expansion.

If you already have the Frozen Throne, then you need to click the Frozen Throne icon (as of patch 1.28 and later), which is on the right hand side of the Single Player button. It will start the game in The Frozen Throne Mode. See the image below:

We have updated the Gnoll Campaign to a new version!
Like previously, it has 1 complete mission but it is fully playable and it takes about 3-4 hours to finish it. So, that's a lot of content.

The changes are the following:
  • The game now takes into account if the Troll Maneater charms units.
  • Fixed a bug that some AIs built double amount of intended units.
  • Some minor doodad changes.
  • Added a dialogue to the Tree of Spirits, when he becomes uncorrupted.
  • A minor quest change.
  • Minor cinematic changes.
  • The difficulty dialog appears now faster.
  • Added a new secret.
  • Credits have been updated.

We heard from Ralle that the Hive Workshop Map Submission Guidelines actually allow submitting a campaign chapter-by-chapter. Only each chapter must be fully functional. He should contact you shortly about this matter, if he has not already done so.
I will wait for that. Although, campaigns are not one map so they should be treated as a whole in what completion is concerned.
Also, please do not multipost.

I have a question: How will my progress from chapter one be saved for chapter 2 and the following chapters? If there even is anything that needs saving :p
Of course, at this point, we do not even know what data must be saved, because the Chapter 2 is not ready. What we will do is to allow you to start the Chapter 2 immediately when it is released with some kind of an average starting point. And, of course, we will add Game Cache to the Chapter 1, but to make use of it, you need to play the Chapter 1 again, which is a bit suboptimal (unless you are very enthusiastic ;)). We don't yet even know what heroes you play in Chapter 2. In the Dwarf Campaign, we had new heroes in each chapter, because it was released as separate RPG maps and it was impossible to use the Game Cache when we put them into one campaign file (because object data was different in each map). The other reason for using new heroes was that the old heroes already got to level 6-8 and there was not so much interesting hero development to be done with them.

But we are open to all suggestions for further development of the Gnoll Campaign.

The installation instructions here mention what you should do for Windows 10 BUT they don't mention that the same thing is required for all Windows OS before 10.
This led me to come to a wrong conclusion that I who use Windows7 can just skip that part. And because of that I could not watch the intro cinematic until I did it. :p Just change it to mention users of Windows 7 and 8 too. :)
And the text saying "It's been 10 000 (or was it a 1000? lol) years since..." went by super fast :O I barely got to read it in sucha short interval.

Edit: LOOOL that voice saying "Build. More. Gnoll huts." haha had to keep on clicking on it for laughs, :B so rhythmic.

Edit2: When our Gnolls tell others where they came from, why the hell do they say "From Azeorth"?? Azeroth is the entire planet (and as far as I know they are still on it)!!! wtf man that doesn't answer the question of where they came from at all! -_- They are from some part of Eastern Kingdoms, that's for sure :p

Very nice campaign. As said above, many things can use some improvment, and personally I would make the strcture a bit more complex, by adding more units or upgrades, maybe it will come in the future chapter. Nevertheless i enjoied it, and even tho the story isnt overwhelming or dramatic, I had a good time playing it.
I await for the changes and the second part release.
PD:
BUILD MORE GOBLIN HUTS!
Best part in the game!:alol:

Finished it within 2 hours (been playing it slow :p), and here is what I have to say about it in detail:
didn't bother saving the chieften's daughter, didn't bother trying to release the Gnolls that were destined to be lunch for the nice Trolls, xD And also I had no idea how to heal the forest (But I DID try to do it, tried putting ethereal oil into the moonwells and fountains but that didn't do anything, couldn't really think of anything else, though now that I think of it maybe I could use the non-corrupted fountain of health to some use to fix the other ones...) so didn't do that either. :p
The rest of the stuff I did. And in the end I kinda regret not trying it on Hard since Normal felt a bit too easy in the end but alright. :] The puzzle was good, not much hard, took me under 10 minutes I think, I like puzzles :)
I must admit I didn't understand what that place is all about but what matters is that I made some grouchy Gnolls die. :) In the end it felt like there could have been more to do (didn't get to use any of the items like the lantern or ethereal oil...).
Since the heal spell is absolutely necessairy for the opening part of the mission, you could make it an already chosen spell even though obviously every sane person would choose the heal lol. There isn't much variation in units and buildings, true. And having a, for example, Orb of Fire on our tank hero would make him perfect, maybe that item could be bought or gained somewhere along the quest. :)
Lastly, at the score screen in the end, Troll factions should have their own icon instead of all icons being for the Gnoll race :]
All in all, a pretty standard Blizzard like mission, on the level what you could maybe expect a starting Reign of Chaos campaign mission to be like (minus the voice acting obviously lol), even though this follows a story that obviously isn't of epic proportions as the Invasion of the Burning Legion or Rise of the Lich King. (since they're goddamn Gnolls lol) :}

Edit: Okay I went back and I figured out how to heal the forest. :)
Was interesting.
But still had no idea what to do with the broken spear, lantern, ethereal oil and robes, I guess those are for a sequel :]

Ok. I will update the description to mention the other versions of Windows as well.
Edit: I actually just removed "10," and let it be "Windows." I did the same for macOS: Removed "High Sierra."

I will wait for that. Although, campaigns are not one map so they should be treated as a whole in what completion is concerned.
Also, please do not multipost.
wtf is wrong with you? The great team that gave us one of the best campaigns ever is back and you dare to show such disrespect? I bet none of your shitty work is even close to their magnificent campaigns so stop diminishing their hard work.
To Tommi and the rest of the team, thank you very much for reviving the story of my favorite campaign out there. It's purely outstanding 6/5.

Truely amazing campaign ...
I didn't read through all the comments here, but it must been really hard for you seeing most of them just complaining not being compatible with their installed version. Never the less I really did enjoy it so much that i had to log in just to thank for making this campaign and im not an active member here.
Really liked the idea to give the avatar the music. It felt like some action was going on :p

Looking forward for more! <3

And the text saying "It's been 10 000 (or was it a 1000? lol) years since..." went by super fast :O I barely got to read it in sucha short interval.
We've published a new version of the intro movie (v2) with 0.5 s black screen in the beginning, which might help if there is some kind of a glitch in the video playback in the start.

In the past, Azeroth was the name of the Eastern Kingdoms before it became the name for the whole planet.

Lastly, at the score screen in the end, Troll factions should have their own icon instead of all icons being for the Gnoll race :]
All our players are Orc (like trolls and gnolls) and you can have only 1 score screen icon per race. We did not want to use Undead or Night Elf for them, because we weren't sure, if it actually affects their gameplay. So I guess we need to be content with them all being gnoll in the score screen.

Can someone answear me these side quests

1)fountains

2)Temple

3) and main quest mantas order
I've sent you hints in a private conversation.

The puzzle to open the temple gates is not that hard omg. It's a subjective matter though (since I like puzzles). :p I did it in under 10 minutes I believe. Get a paper to write down stuff as you unravel it. :]

I was gonna say this is a good campaign, until that hellish "Mantra" thing riddle takes into action. Will there be an option to skip it and open the temple immediately?

I couldn't figure out how to light the lantern up using the ethereal oil even after looking up the solution on Gnoll Campaign for Warcraft III .
You need to have the spirit lantern and the fruit of ethereal oil on Luna Moonsnout and then direct her to the firepot that is on the left hand side of the Temple of Gu'rathul. There should appear a dialog menu, in which you can choose to light up the lantern.

You're referring to the fire pit next to the circle of power for the chant, right? I have those items equipped on her but nothing is popping up.

No. There is another fire pit where the Temple of Gu'rathul is. (The temple which looks a bit like a Spirit Lodge.) That temple is just north of the starting shore and south of the Tree of Many Fruits. The fire pit there is surrounded by a number of small pillars.

Great followup to Dwarf Campaign, you've recaptured the same tone and gameplay so many years later! I wasn't sure if I should give this a 4 or 5 - a 4 only because there is currently only one map, but I've rounded up because I've had a lot of fun and simply didn't want to stop playing when recording parts of my playthrough.

On another note, has anyone found any use for the other items in the Temple other than the Latern?

The Gnoll Campaign has been translated into Russian! You can download it from:

Кампания Гноллов - Мастерская переводов | Кампании WC3 на русском / WarCraft 3 / Модмейкинг - XGM: Xtream Game Modmaking

Thanks to kirlandiya for the translation.

There's also a Russian intro movie on YouTube:
Yay for me! :D

You guys did a great job... again! Gnoll Campaign is just as nicely done and enjoyable as Dwarf Campaign. Which, in my opinion, says a lot.

9/10, just because the terrain is kind of too simplistic at times.

It's really sad that campaign supports only 1.29+, cuz that patch is preety much crap.
Oh well, i guess i make backup just in case.

Yeah so I tried updating to 1.29 for this and all kinds of weird crap is going on. Telling me to restart for the update, I restart and it tells me WC3 is already running, and every time I try to go in, it tries downloading the same update. When I try to make it update manually, it gives me some techno-babble I don't understand about trying to find a file named patch.lst and failing.

Is there any way we can just make this campaign not require 1.29?
