Devour spell for Heroes

I've tried to just turn the Devour spell into a hero ability by checking the "Hero Ability" box. But, every time I use the spell, it doesn't do anything, the hero just stands there. How can I make this spell work?

Have you remembered to give the hero Devour cargo as well? Otherwise it will not be able to hold the unit (at least thats how i understand it).
