Creating Attachments

Can somebody please either guide me through this, or better yet, fix this model for me? The origin attachment point (and possibly others) doesn't work. When I attach something to the origin of this unit, it seems to attach to either the weapon or the right hand attachment points.

Please note that I did not make this model, I'm just getting rid of the bugs and added an animation or two.
