Adding more dimension to the smoke and rocket will definitely improve this icon, silent. When you scale the icon down, you also lose a lot of the smoke D: try adding more so its more visible when its scaled down. The way it is just makes the smoke look really awkward.

If you don't consider suggestions and comments as applying personal taste on your icon, then I would like to suggest to work a bit with the glow.

Why did you remove the smoke ? A bit more work and definition and lining and it would look great.

The smoke should actually be re-implemented but don't make it so white because it ends up looking like foam. Some tones of gray and black would be more suitable I think. It would be also cool to add more details to the rocket if possible to make it shine even more!

I'd say to not remove the smoke, just make it less dense, less white(some grayish variation, some orange/fire reflection) and more detailed.
Also, the greenish(why greenish?) effect looks too solid, could use more variation in shape and color.
There could be some fire as well.
I suggest u to observe some real pics, it could help/inspire u a bit.

I think it is the glow, these stripes in the background, ruining the rocket's awesomeness.

I suggest using a second light source in the background.. like a dim light, perhaps blue-ish light would do the trick.?

Too much unused space.
The smoke still looks solid and is poorly represented.
Ur subject looks static, poorly detailed and poorly shaded.
U could change the perspective, add more details, u could increase the color tonality, u could draw some smooth effects to induce motion...
