Alunde - City template

Alunde - City Template is a map template mostly for advanced map-makers, but also for beginners and hopefully for some experts.

Originally, this map was intended to be a Real Life RPG, in which you had to live your daily life while taking a main quest and side quests all around the city of Alunde, getting different jobs and abilities, or doing whatever you want in the city.

The idea was to make the map as "clean" as possible, using only the original WC3 material; that is, no custom models or textures, no imported sounds or effects, no JASS scripting, just the retail thing.

Because of the lack of time, the map was never finished and I stopped making it. Many times I've tried to retake it, but time is always a problem. So finally I've decided to release this version: it's all the layout I made so far for Alunde, together with some triggers and stuff that you may find useful for learning, inspiration, or map-making.

Use any of the elements in this map freely, but please give me credit if you do so. I feel this city is suitable for many different types of maps, so use your imagination to get the best of it.

The map is provided with comments on almost every trigger and also on variables. I hope this may be of use to some map-makers out there, no matter their map-making level.

I removed a countless amount of things for this release, because I feel that maybe some day I will be able to finish the original map, but I left some nice triggers and stuff, and the map is playable, though there's not much to do, except being farmer (the only profession I've left) and exploring the city.

Anything you want, you can e-mail me to: [email protected]

Have fun with the map, and please tell me if you're making something out of it!

Any comments on the map welcome.

Please notice that this map is intended to serve as help, template or inspiration to other map-makers, and although it can be played, it's more useful when open with WorldEditor.

I hope this can stay out of the "unfinished maps" submission rule, thank you.

Oh, very nice! It ought to be fun sticking a FPS into here. The environment triggers are going to make it look especially pretty. I'll have to disable some of the Tammy's Inn triggers, don't want players hiding out in a hotel room! Or maybe... hmmm...

There are some memory leaks I can spot that need fixing. Ohh Spanish! Lovely language! Luckily its one of my native languages:grin:

Very cool map,but why did you have to delete all those jobs and triggers? Anyway, I like it.

This may have been me just accidentily messing up some trigger, but it keeps saying script error. But its fun to play even though it's 'unfinished' and a 'base' for a map. Will edit this post if I can find out what I did.

It's over a decade old but I happened to look at it and this map should be given a disclaimer:

This map has an absolutely massive amount of point (location), unit group, and floating text (texttag) leaks that are often triggered periodically (some as frequently as every 2 seconds) or any time a unit enters one of the many regions in the map. There are additionally some player group (force) and special effect leaks, but they are not very frequent. These leaks will become more significant and noticeable the longer players play in this map; eventually Wc3 will use so much memory that the game will be extremely laggy and unplayable. If you wish to use this template for any length of time I highly suggest you attempt to fix the leaks yourself. Here is a good resource on leaks and how to fix them.

Of secondary importance: the map uses a Gamecache for save/load but doesn't save this GC into a variable and instead references (Last Created Gamecache). If you create and use a second Gamecache in this map for some reason it will break some of its job-related triggers.
