Wild Elephant

It is a classic African elephant.
The mesh comes from here and the skin from this online picture.
I've not done the mesh and skin as I clearly lack the skill to do so. I've done everything after that from the wrapping to the animations.

The walk animation was inspired by these pictures.

It was made for my map Rome II Total War.

If you have any suggestion on how to improve it, let me know ;)

Changelog :
-The wrapping has been somewhat remade, mostly for the rear limbs.
-The sound has been fixed; a sound when walking and dying has been added

Wild Elephant (Model)

A cool critter model. Nice animations and good skin. Works in-game and performs well.
.. why is the internal model file called 'trireme'?

also, the front part of the belly needs better wrapping, and the hind area of the belly needs better rigging, so it doesn't stretch that bad or clip with the hind legs

I'm.. not sure what to say on the mesh and texture not being yours.. this is like.. a first legit elephant .u.

Woops sorry; fixed :)

Hum yes I agree. I'll try to work something out, but it's not that easy considering that the skin is actually a photo; I don't have anything between the four legs.

Yes I'm sorry, making an elephant from scratch was way above my skills...

well the only thing that should be tweaked is a texture. it needs some freehand

as for the rigging and animation, what do you use to do them? I kinda recommend mdlvis more

Yep I've done everything with mdlvis :)

Noice !
Any hopes for a Team-colored war-elephant + Elephant archer ? i'm looking for these kind of models ! :eek:2

Well yes I'll probably have that, but I won't be able to upload it here as the model of the man would be from Fingolfin. But I'll link you a pastebin when it's done ;)
There might not be an archer though. I ll start by putting a Cornac.

Here is an other skin which I cannot upload as it is from Creative Assembly's Rome II Total War. I worked a lot more on this version which is in my map so the wrapping is way better than here :)
I already started to work on a TC elephant with armor but it's faaaar from finished ^^

what you should do is really make use of that other button for rigging in mdlvis, by selecting the vertices that are following one bone, selecting another bone, and adding that bone to the rigging. hopefully the clipping and stretching will be lessened

..i still want you to make the elephant texture freehand, screenshots are a no-go .u. ( at least i believe so ) maybe someone from the skin section could help you with that

cool model, can you upload also the palm tree i love it ;) rate 5/5
Sorry, the palm trees are from Fingolfin; you may ask him though ;)

I'm sorry I must be dumb I don't get which button you are talking about. You would have each vertice to be attached to two bones ? I'm not sure to follow... Btw I like the stretching that is obtained with this rigging; I've done a few tests and tweaked it; that's how it was meant to be, sorry if you dislike it...

Well, I asked Fingolfin, it seems I am able to retrieve stuff online as long as it's not copyrighted. I made the effort to find one and remake the whole wrapping to upload it here; even though it's far from perfect, it seems quite useful as a model; I don't have the time nor the desire to make a freehand texture...

when you select vertices and a bone in mdlvis, you have two buttons on that lill menu to the right. one is 'reattach vertices', which does the usual, attaching to only one bone. the other one next to it is 'attach vertices to bone' and is marked with a lill green +-sign. on its own, that option can ruin a model. but if the vertices are already attached to a bone, and you select another bone and use it. the selected vertices will follow two, three or more bones, depending on how many times you use that option, and with how many additional bones

is that a lill clearer? oO

for the attack 1 animation i think it would look more natural if you speed up the 1st half of the attack and slowed down the second half of the attack. I don't feel like elephants are capable of rubberbanding their head at such speeds XD
You'd be surprised how quick an elephant can be ^^ But it was made on purpose to emphasize the blow. In animation, you usually exaggerate some moves, especially in games such as Warcraft3. But I did not really do that with the elephant as I wanted it to be rather realistic.
