Story

[r]
Fifteen years ago, a young boy named Rentau Carfan was born in the quiet village of Retokra Keep, but was left out in the streets by his very parents. Rentau had grown up the wrong ways, and with wrong beliefs, like a sheep being able to fly twenty feet above the ground. When he was four, he saw a very tall and strong-looking man, that was part of Retokra's local village guard. Rentau approached the man, and asked him who he was and what was he doing. The man replied saying that he was the Captain of The Retokra Guard, and explained to Rentau what he does and his job's importance to Retokra. With each word the Captain spoke, Rentau was amazed at his loyalty and strengths. Rentau then realized that he had a dream, the greatest dream in his life, and it was to become a Captain of The Retokra Guard.

By the time he was fourteen, he barely passed The Retokra Guard entrance exam of physical strengths and knowledge. Rentau Carfan was now known as a name of one who serves and protects those who are in danger. With absolutely no confidence in himself, he started his training. After a couple of months, he was the top of all the recruits in Guard's rankings. Soon, he wanted to be sent on jobs that were more dangerous, rather than just making him look for some little kid's dog that seems to go missing all the time. It's been his twelfth time looking for that kid's dog, and he has had enough. Rentau walked up to the Captain and asked for a task that had more action and that could actually put his skills to use. The Captain had no second thoughts about him, and assigned him to a one-man scouting expedition.

Rentau was extremely hyped about his new assignment, that he was literally jumping for joy in front of everyone, but he didn't care.

As he started to travel outside of the city, he saw a Murloc running towards a nearby lake. Following it, he drew his sword and was catching up to it. As he was about to strike, one of the Murloc's friends cut a rope, letting a landslide fall upon Rentau. He quickly sprinted to the other side, for he knew he would die if he stayed any longer. Evading the landslide, he moves on.

I know someone said that table is better than hidden tags, but for something big like screen shots, I think a hidden tag is good. Don't abuse table. Give your description a proper structure by using both hidden tags and tables in the best way. :D
As for my review for the game itself, I find it hard to target enemies, because their models are constantly moving when attacking me, so I can't click the same spot. I died because I couldn't target a murloc with Stab.

actually it was common sense to use hidden tag for screenshot and changelog :p

That was a nice and fun level, looking forward to the continue. I couldn't get past Level 4 (until the Gnoll Dictator), I don't know if I can properly level afterward, since I had to...cheat ._. My game crashed and I saved at the Ogres, and I was too lazy to refight everybody. Anyway, I'll give this a 4/5 for now

Oh, and it'd be nice if you fix the icons, cause when I pause, the fearsome green boxes of doom appear on my screen :con:

And lastly, I Slashed and Ogre when he was asleep, then attacked him, but he didn't retaliate, my Slash was Level 1, but...I don't think he's supposed to be sleeping/be stunned for that long.

1st of all, don't give your loading screen such an look with this kind of color codes. It is pain as hell to view it.

2.jpg

2nd, you have missing icon and those entire instruction was wipe off by just a single "ESC" click. For people who have no idea what is this map about, the first look at this map at the start of the game would make people think "oh!! it is currently at cinematic mode, maybe click "ESC" would skip it".

I recommend the ESC trigger to be turn off for a couple of seconds to prevent people from making such a mistake. Yes, it might sounds dumb mistake; but it is often happen to newbie.

3.jpg

3rd, you should allowed people to turn off/on the weather effect as not everybody have a good computer to support the effect. I was having a hard time trying to play this map due to the weather effect.

4th, don't abuse the color codes. from what i seen in your tooltips. you use various colors in a single sentences and it is annoying to read it. use color codes only for the maint title should be sufficient.

5th, don't use different hotkey for the same ability. learning ability and ability are just the same, ensure they use the same hotkey or else it would confuse the people itself.

Don't

Learn Holy Light [X]
Holy Light [Y]

Do

Learn Holy Light [F]
Holy Light [F]

The replayability values ain't that great either, I keep travelling and encounter the same thing. Hack, slash, hack, slash and it getting to be repetitive till it was boring.

You need to polish up the map at this moment.

Ahh, i see. Well good luck! (And if you don't need that part of the map you can trim it down)

Rentau's Voyage Review

Rentau's Voyage is a single player RPG made by indomitable1319.

Single player RPG-s are quite a rare event this days, so that's a drastic bonus from the start. However the longer I played the map, and explored it in WE, I realized that it's only positive point is the map genre.

First of all you overdid the packaging here at the site. To many colors, to many links, too few and rather uninteresting screenshots. You should have put more screenshots and less text. Now to the map itself.

The terrain is very poor. Too many dodoads placed around, which makes it looks ugly, and makes the map lag. Rivers edged by blizzard cliffs, instead of making nice smooth rivers with the height tool. Blizzard cliffs used as mountains. That's plain ugly. Especially the ogre part, also, there are really to many dodoads scrabbled around there. It seems you had put them just to fill the empty space. In overall, the terrain needs a complete remake.

Now to the gameplay and the 1st person system. It's quite inadequate and clumsy to use. The 1st person system. And it contributes to the lag. I would suggest avoiding it, since it really doesn't help the gameplay. And the gameplay is quite boring, the story not interesting enough. I can't really say much more about it.

Your RPG needs a lot more work put on it. Terrain, story, spells, maybe a hero choice option, removal of the 1st person system, etc. 1/5.

Oh,
If you know how to make a cinematic skipping trigger, please contact me at [email protected], or at www.hiveworkshop.com. My username is also Indomitable1319.

  • Untitled Trigger 001
    • Events
      • Player - Player 1 (Red) skips a cinematic sequence
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Set Skip1 = True
  • Untitled Trigger 002
    • Events
      • Time - Every 0.10 seconds of game time
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • If (Skip1 Equal to False) then do (Do nothing) else do (Cinematic - Turn cinematic mode Off for (All players))
Basically you need two triggers. Once a cinematic mode is skipped, the boolean goes to true, and the second trigger goes on, exiting the cinematic mode. However this is very rough. Needs polishes, such as trigger turn offs, enables, disables etc. But this is how its done, you play around now.

Thanks for the cinematic trigger.

As for the map, I'm done with it. It's over for me here, I can't change the terrain anymore. I started this with the Enforce Water Height Limits On. And the base terrain solid ground. I would've done a better job with this, and I really notice how bad this map is now that I can trigger and terrain a lot better. The triggers are leaking so much, the skills are screwing my ass, everything's getting a lot harder here. It's too bad that I won't finish my map because I can't get JNGP to fix everything.

If I had time and patience, I would completely redo this map. It's just too bad I can't at the moment, and I would ask a kind mapmaker to continue the map for me or something like that. I'm not too sure if I should give up on it, or not.
