LONE WOLF
===================================================================
Hello everbody, this is a RPG campaign based on the serie of the gambooks Lone Wolf from Joe Dever. It is just introduction and first chapter Flight from the Dark. Next chapters will come, but I do not know when, because creating one isnt for one day. It is not made exactly like was the gamebook, I made some little changes.

I used some models from this site and from some others, so I give thanks to the people who made them (in credits at the end of the map :).

One important thing, I am from Czech republic (central Europe) and my english is not very good (I know just what I have learned by playing videogames, I never studied this language) - so please excuse me if the text is wrong and grammar incorrect.

All critics are welcome...

Hm, guys maybe I need a little help. Your post SoL master, makes me think that "Lone Wolf" already existed before this campaign??? I thought that this is story made by creator of this campaign... :S

He is using the campaign to tell the story of lone wolf. I like the books and played as a Drakkarim Warrior called crow. So how are you going to do Giaks, Vordaks and the others, kuguar.

Well then, I have one more reason to give this campaign more like! His idea is the best, haven't seen nowhere map/campaign's story made by book. (Except LOTR, there are tons of that kind of maps)...

To WITCH KING:
:)) no, this is not my story and it´s taken from a book (how knows SolMaster), more precisely from a gamebook serie written by Joe Dever. At this point I have to add, that these gambooks were in my country very popular (about 14 years ago) but the house that was publishing it, has perished before publish last 4 or 3 books of entire serie - and because I really liked the gamebooks so I decided recreate it in warcraft ambient to pay tribute to it :)) I used also something from the book but actually I do not like the books because they are little bit infantil, but the gamebooks are much better. When I was constructing the map I added some little changes (like the female-wolf Kima) to make it slightly different :)) And, how do you say, there is no campaign made by book (or I haven´t found it :). I have played the campaign named HEROES of SORCERIA and when I begun with it I liked that you can play only with one hero and on the journey some friends are joining you, but in that campaign later you construct buildings etc. and this I have seen in lots of maps and I asked to me, why not to do some maps where you handle only one hero or two heroes? and in this point I wonder some people takes this idea too... :)))

to SOLMASTER
What do you mean with words "how are you doing giaks, vordaks..."? You mean create some campaign from different angle of view (like play for some cannon-fodder-giak and make from him a giak-hero)?
BTW: there are some gamebooks or games where you can play for drakkarims? I never hear about it (how I said in my countre were published only lone wolf gambooks and nothing more)

BTW TO ALL WHO PLAY THIS MAP:
I have found some bugs - alongside the revision of texts, grammar and cinematic transmission timing, I found these bugs:
1) the range of throwing daggers is too short (it is importang when you go free the druid Kellram, you can´t use them to blast off the barrels of explosives nearby the giak watch tower)
2) player names are still in czech (in my language)
3) when you approach the place, where a farmer is fighting with a band of giaks, there is a possibility to save life of his wife and child (you have to kill all attacking giaks) - if survives only the child, so that boy will accompany Lone Wolf to crossroad where he meet the Sommerlund Patrol on horses - but there are also possibilities that survive just the boy, just the women or no one of them - and the bug is, when survives both of them, the boy stay with his mother, but later, when Lone Wolf meet the Patrol, appears the text as if he accompany him

that really is untrue, there are many maps and campaigns based on books. many of which can be found on this site, like the epicly long " the black company" just look around a little and you will find them.

it is a fairly well made campaign though and should be continued.

about your idea

good idea and actually I was thinking about something like this - but I dont have any experience with creating models (my domain is creating sceneries and things like this) and I dont have any RPG book of Lone wolf, just the gamebooks, how I said, in my country wasnt never published something more), maybe if some volunteer(s) appear and this campaign would convert to bigger project, then I dont say "no" to this... :))

You are wrong there: apart from LOTR, there are still a lot of maps (most of the time campaigns) which have been based on books, you've probably just never read those books.
Apparently, someone already said that (I just noticed now... well, whatever).

That aside, I will test the campaign right now, I hope to have a review ready soon.
In the meantime: good luck improving it.

Side-Quest

I either found a bug, or i am just missing the point
How exactly do i heal kima if shes invensible? (the game by default says invencible characters cant be healed)
EDIT: nevermind that one try kima was in the middle of the road tried again and i was able to walk past her, also try calling it Passive Skill, same thing as permanent skill just the way it normally gets called.
Exelent map, i have barely seen one these good in a while.
Another thing, is it normal that the giaks that attack you when you are going back from helping the druid start running from you? i mean i hit one and i have to follow the other 8 till i am able to get all of em. Aswell as many storks i see that start retreating (it wouldnt bother that much if it wasnt cuz they block the only way for the storks to pass, that means i end up killing one by one)

answer to ropalx

ropalx

thank you, I did think the healing ability was working correctly in case of Kima´s healing if she is invulnerable, I tried it and you´re right, so I changed in Object Editor the targets of the ability Healing (I added neutral and non-hero) and now it works good

the other bugs I look later, when I have more time

for this moment: all bug fixes will be here soon in updated version with second chapter of Lone Wolf series

Hi

CORRECTION:
The bug was in the item Laumpsur (not in ability Healing how I have written before)

OTHER BUGS:
1) The giaks starts running from you because the have ability of Wander (like neutral critters), and yes it´s not very good, so in updated version will be this ability erased (storgs are having the same ability but that is ok, I think)
2) sorry, I dont know what exactly do you mean with this, can you write it in different words, please (Im not english):
EDIT: nevermind that one try kima was in the middle of the road tried again and i was able to walk past her, also try calling it Passive Skill, same thing as permanent skill just the way it normally gets called.

SolMaster

Just finished it, and I have to say right off the bat that I dislike how long the intro is... I found myself playing with a paperclip waiting for it to end, I usually love a backstory, but it's too much right at the start... not to mention the typo's and grammar errors make reading it all even more bothersome :p

Anyway onto the map itself, big map with a lot of blank, unused space though the parts where your Hero does go are well put together. I enjoy the "hidden" items scattered about, gives purpose to searching which I like to do.

I found 2 bugs both dealing with saving the druid... first I couldnt heal the wolf with my spell which made me have to go back and find one of those healing roots... and secondly after I healed her she ran up the mountain... however she stopped half way and I was unable to get past her so I was unable to save the Druid.

Maps: 2/5 (only 1 playable map currently, so I cant give it too high of a rating plus the 2 bugs)
Storyline: 3/5 (I like the storyline, but the grammar makes reading it all tedious)
Difficulty: 4/5 (Not too hard, but not too easy either... cant charge in mindlessly and win, but you dont have to plan 30 steps ahead just to take out a group of enemies, makes for nicer gameplay)
Overall: 3/5 (Campaign has a lot of promise, fix the bugs and the grammar, and add more chapters and I think you have a really good Campaign on your hands.)

Thank you for your constructive opinion. All the bugs will be fixed in final version of whole campaign - but the works are going slow, because I make it only me. In the same way I hope the grammar will be fixed too with help of some friends who know better the english language.

Intro - i know it is little bit larger and could be made better, maybe in future i will put my eye on it and do better "directors cut"
Healing spell - you can heal another units only when you reach 3rd level of this ability

Now I can access hive workshop web. Thanks for posting here the czech site :))) but i think it wont serve to non-english people, becuase the maps are there in czech :))))

Review - Lone Wolf

A campaign by kuguar

Camera :

The camera work is terrible, it should constantly move and maybe lock the camera to the hero when you're playing.

Terrain :

The terrain is not acceptable at all, blizzard cliffs, sometimes too flat, a lot of sharp cliffs, trees in the air, the castle doesn't look like a castle, not a lot of custom doodads.

Story :

The story telling is really boring, plain text and a camera scrolling around a big forest is just boring. No one would read it and some would even exit the game. The story itself can be a little interesting but you fail at the story telling.

Animations :

The use of animations is also bad, the hero falls and he loses blood from his chest because of a small stone...

Gameplay :

The gameplay is also bad, the abilities are not custom, you just have to hit 4 units in the beginning until they die. Also the item descriptions are terrible.

Other :

There are several typos.
There are grammar mistakes.

Hiveworkshop :

You are breaking a rule: You must post the credits in the description with each name.

Overall :

I'd say this is not even in alpha stage and needs a lot of improvements.

Final Rating : 1/5

I agree with most of this. but the typos and grammar are because he doesn't speak English well. I have translated about half of the first mission for him, but havn't actually completed it. Also a small stone, when thrown correctly, could indeed knock you unconcious/cause bleeding. My opinion atm is 2/5.

Lonewolf, I could help you with some of the terrain probably.
