It was much more centered around keeping your conversations in one place. Meaning that if you wrote to someone, you would be able to see all of your previous interactions (through messages, not PM's) in one place. Basically a long thread with just the parties involved in the conversation. (This is a reply to your question from jan 2018) (Oh and emotions worked for it as well).
