Yes alpha is before beta. I hope I can get the map to beta before end of this year.
In beta I should basically have the content finished, and polishing/balancing to go. So in alpha it's OK if the map is 90% imbalanced, just so it's playable and enjoyable.

So about the good roles:
Army maker: Trains the army which'll delay the bad guys, but in the long run you need a) fast rocket producer b) Smart and fast tower builder to succeed, as you're very limited on training army.
Tower maker: This guy'll concentrate on keeping an eye for enemy timings. Basically if the enemy never does early harass he doesn't need to build anything in the early game, and save for the later game. So he builds tower when necessary.
Rocket maker: Yup, there'll be a whole role dedicated for launching missiles. You'll need to build blacksmith, target tower, rocket factory, laboratory and a launch pad in order to launch missile. You can use rocket factory to upgrade the missiles. So rocket maker will save the team from possible timing attacks.
Gatherer: Gatherers will mine gold very efficiently, as they can use the "Hire" and "Expand" abilities twice as fast. Player'll need to type "-gather" in the start of the game to be one, but he'll lose a) ability to make army b) ability to launch rockets c) ability to create towers .
Currently I've finished 4 towers (+10 upgrade forms=14 in total), missile system, remake system, army system, tower system and income system. There's so much to do though >.<
