  • Oh believe me, they already have. Your admissions & cooperation alone mean that I was not a failure. : )

And I too, have suffered somewhat from impatience. I understand it; we are a community, nay, a society dedicated to "getting our way & fast". Taking time to talk things over can be difficult for some... But it is incredibly important, I believe.

I just hope I can finish responding to the others on the thread before things get forgotten. :<
Yea, why not that. But oh well. I personally rather see a map of North American or Oceanic Slavs.
Yea, I suppose they did the whole upper and lower thing just because they could not come up for a name for new south slavs. Could just call them far slavs or some shit.
I guess it's just 'expanded Slavdom' map. Along with some smaller details.

Though the distinct lack of North Slavs tickles my accuratebone.
Naturally. They scrapped most of the season though. Oh well, season 18 is coming soon.
I'm pretty sure that was broken back when the authors swore never to give license to people who don't involve them in development.
I can't quite tell if they are enemies or gnomes are slaves. Either way, underground war is epic. And with the whole minimisation thing I really hoped I'd see more of gnome kingdom. And of crab people.
I'm just messaging users and checking if they have a higher chance in joining, by checking their recources, other groups, and posts. Also if they have been active in the past month :p
Hi there VeljkoM, I know your probably really busy right now but I'm going to leave this message. Would you like to join Strategy and Risk players? It's a group for people who like RTS custom maps. Link is in the image if you are interested.

Hmm, my trick has never failed me, perhaps you would want to try my portable version instead?
Welp, I'm not surprised (about the Social Groups); it always struck me as a little bit "facebook-ish" and juvenile. Meh. Still, a group can serve to say "hey, we actually have an organized, discrete number of people invested in this (don't have to actually use it as a staging ground or whatever)

And yes, it has a lot to do with the coding of the system. I've been trying to get some alternatives worked on (check the MC#25 for an example, though not an ideal one). Another great thought is the Schulze method (wikipedia it); something Wc3C did near the end that really made things a lot better (though it requires some coding upfront... But then again, if one of us could do it for Ralle, his work would be cut out for him).
Lol... Well it's a good start, if nothing else. But I'm not sure "exampl-ing" will be enough. We have to raise the issue respectfully, logically & persistently. Heck, maybe a social group... I may have already found us another user...

I would prefer if poll voters would need first to explain why they voted. Count only votes that had posted review on thread. Wouldn't be perfect solution but at least contestants would get some feedback.

That is just one example there are I am sure many others and honestly you shouldn't fear of lack of creative people. Better fear that they have better Trigger/JASS skills, and gets worse if they can model too (Though just modeling skill wins better polls not necessarily gameplay).
    ----------
That's true, and something I have consistently tried to raise issue with & counteract in the Contests I have suggested/hosted.

Basically, voting is a joke; it's a popularity contest, people follow along because it's comfortable or cool. Nifty new models or neat eye-candy spells always win the day over solid design & simple (but useful) ideas. That's why I have lowered how much the Poll affects the final score.
    ----------
`Yes I hate making items too they are kinda game breaking anyway and honestly unimaginative. I once for the fun of it replaced it with building that casts spell instead.
    ----------
Fortunately, most of them are the same race to race (potions of healing/mana, scroll of town portal, an orb, etc), but the rest... Yeah. I never use Items so I never know if they are balanced. It's there to give everyone access to certain things, as well as to fill certain 'gaps', I believe (as you pointed out, Dust of Appearance for Orcs who have no early detectors as a defense against BM harass), but what are those gaps? And how bad should they be filled? *sigh*

    ----------
`Well the example of remove all other subraces from main race was bad one. In the end you risk making race that has all units look the same. For improved race I think it would be more logical to "add" not "reduce".
    ----------
Yes, that's definitely a big challenge; especially when making Factions out of single (sub)Races (like I am with Trolls, Dwarves, Nerubians, etc). The thing is, you can resolve that issue by adding other races (an "Alliance"), or you can "get around it", like the Night Elves (and my Jungle Trolls, due to the similarities) with a wide variety of Creatures (so sort of a "Creature" sub-race, but not exactly). Otherwise yeah.

    ----------
-If I would be making just dwarves though I would probably though make dwarves (ironforge/wildhammer), machinery (tanks/golems) and gnomes (ok unsure about them I dislike them), maybe add human.
    ----------
That's true (and the way I'm doing it; Ironforge or Wildhammer alone would be better as a Mini-Race, IMO, but combined they give an appropriate mix.
And yeah, I hate Gnomes too, but they fill a really good Thematic & Stylistic slot (tiny & mechanical, as opposed to big & burly warrior Dwarves).

    ----------
-For Elementals well I think it would be a crime not to have all 4 element plus random one for 5th.
-Goblins yeah mix of alchemy and mech but you could add mercs like ogres and gnolls.
    ----------
Well like I said, a "Full-race" of Elementals, yeah, but a Mini-Race can be perfect for just one.
Goblins & Mercs? Definitely... But I don't know if that would constitute a full-race.

    ----------
`I have been in 3 competitions (dropped out of 3rd, lost motivation to work) and they were quite alive and had very cool races. Seems the competition dropped in 2013 though. Contests themselves usually lasted month or longer and sometimes they add overtime. Honestly I saw worse race ideas in Race Makers group and in map section. Can't tell you how often I see races that just copy same units, use hero abilities on regular units or have units with same roles.
    ----------
Kudos! Yeah, that last bit there is the exact thing I am all against; I have done my best over the years to put time & thought into everything I do, and I hope to create things that are truly creative, unique, and (hopefully) fun. No "spamming DD abilities" for me. :p
Yeah, we can move it here... Or perhaps end it. I did have one more thought, but more of an aside (at the bottom).

That's rather responsible of you, to move it here & apologize; I didn't once feel you were being antagonistic, though, so no worries. : ) It's a fascinating (sometimes frustrating) challenge to me to have discussions & debates with people; I know many people think they are 'right' but few take the time to think of the 'why', their reasons & support. Fewer still can articulate those reasons thoughtfully & respectfully... But I haven't had much of that with you. :p

I suppose I will just have to accept that I cannot change everyone's mind (difficult, but true). I've learned it before, but it's the lesson that keeps on coming back. Like a boomerang. :p

In terms of Item Shops, I'm more being silly there. Also, I wasn't saying they aren't useful; it's more like "making them" is 'dumb'. They are a pain (at least for me) to come up with; all the items, their effects, how useful they should be, how many 'holes' you should fill in a race... It's something I didn't realize til recently for my Trolls, and have been scrambling to fill adequately. But there's nothing saying your Mini-race couldn't have an Item shop!

    ~

My parting thought was this; I can see that many potential factions benefit from "full-race exposure"; i.e. the whole shebang. Things like Naga, Goblin, Pandaren... But there are some Factions, especially those made of just one solitary Race, that just "click" better to me as mini-races (or, at the very least, could be just as easily one way or the other).
    - Take for example Dwarves; an "Ironforge Alliance" (Dwarves & Gnomes) is a great full-size Faction, but just Dwarves? Meh, might be better as a Mini-race.
    - Also consider something like "Water Elementals"; making an "Elemental Confederation" makes tons of sense full-size, but just one of the four? That'd be pretty difficult & a bit monotonous to stretch 12 units, 4 heroes, and a full complement of everything else out of, IMO. Better as a Partial-race.
    - Finally, consider taking natural "segments" of an existing race; a good example would be my submission for the Wc3C Race-Building Contest #1. I chose "Goblins", but decided to feature one particular slice/sect/section/part of Goblin culture; one particular Cartel. I chose "Steamwheedle" and made a sort of "Mech-obsessed Goblin Cartel", and it went perfect for a Mini-race! One big Warmech hero, tons of tanks & gadgets, with plenty of live support Gobbos running around, mechanical harvesting, etc...
Since then I've actually started planning out "mini-races" out of each of the other Cartels (Greed, Explosives, and (Al)Chemistry (that last one has real potential...)), even though I have a "full-size" Goblin race planned as well.

So yeah, a variety of options. But the most important thing to me is making these contests a lot more 'do-able'; I haven't joined any Techtree contests here, primarily due to lack of time. I think Race-Makers don't take everything into consideration & throw stuff together, sometimes; I mean, buff overlaps, units with summons or direct damage, tooltip-creation, proper names, naming in general, game balance & playability... I've been studying this stuff for years and feel like I've only scratched the surface. To squeeze all that into a tiny little couple-weeks/month-long contest?...
Same-same. I'm quite happy to see you around, too. I dug out an old survival map project and figured I'd poke it a little, we'll see how it goes.

Anyway man, good luck with your exams. Don't be a stranger. :)
Oh, I definitely was gone from Warcraft for good while. I just recently became nostalgic and my modding spirit awoke. How have you been?
