  • thanks , u r right . i really remember that what u said last time . i think i can explain that why i show the pics . actually i'm a 3D modeling and texturing worker in a game company . yesterday tauer and me chat with each other for a long time . luckily we lived in the same city , so we want to be friends and left contact informations . then he asked me my occupation , i told him . he said he want to see some works . so i just show some of my arts on the thread . u know , i really don't want to crack anyone's confidence or show off . if i want to , i just need to creat a new thread . at last , believe me i won't leave any pics of my art on anyone's thread with any excuse .

    I'd be happy to help you with a specific unit if you explain what role it is meant to fill, the racial attributes, and how it is meant to relate to fellow units.

    i haven't got around making models these past weeks. really busy with academics. last model i ever worked on was the latest one that's uploaded. sorry if it took me this long to reply.
    I suppose I'll begin by saying that perfect does not exist. I'm an architecture student and I can tell you that errors will remain even after working on a project for many days.

    My project started as a simple expansion on the standard tech trees for Orcs and Humans. In 2002 I began by adding Ogres and other units from WC2 using the standard neutral units. There were a few custom units such as the Blaster using Cookie's tank model but not many. One unique idea I had in version 1 was a burrow that could move and root so players could build a walled fort. Custom spells and upgrades were few.

    Over the next 11 years I went through dozens of custom unit ideas that were ultimately removed. Some of them were based around a single spell, some were meant to be used in conjunction with other units, and others I thought were cool. As versions went by I came to understand that each unit, ability, upgrade, terrain feature, and system needed to add something unique and useful to the tech tree. As I have worked alone I can only review so much at a time. Each update I address any game breaking issues first, followed by any areas that I feel are neglected. Up until recently the sea units of each race weren't all that different. I spent several updates on diversifying each unit using the racial characteristics as a base. Orcs are strong, Humans are nimble, and Lost are manipulative. In the last update I replaced the standard mercenary units that no one uses with highly specialized units that are worth the investment and add a unique counter to your army.

    I am still not happy with the primary Orc caster and the AI in general. There are numerous balance issues each update that address my concerns with stats. I do a lot of testing between releases. I've released a number of terrains for this project. There are 9 uploaded here but there are more. Currently I update three maps that I have invested, along with two others, in making the terrain as conducive to sea warfare as possible.

    I suggest you work on one or two units at a time, or perhaps one large concept. Once you're at a stable point with those then release. Establish a set of racial attributes that will be present to some extent in every unit of that race.

    I had been inactive for sometime and I was following your custom race ideas but lost track (due to inactivity). I am most interested in the Jungle Troll Race.

    I would love to see the Raptor rider finished (need to see how proxy placed the bones)
    I remember asking him about the model a few weeks back but at that time it was unfinished.
    I am aware that you are involved in a custom race project. You were making a troll raptor rider model for it. Any progress? I have been trying to make one too but I am having problems with MDlvis keyframes.

    Edit: mine is a human dinosaur rider and I am not just limited to trolls, I will be making triceratops and T-rex riders too, that is, once I get past the key frame issue!

    I'm in my final (fourth) year of art school now, making mostly short 3d-animations and that's keeping me plenty busy. I may make a few more textures for WC3 if I feel like it and can find the time. How're you doing?

    Regarding the actual judging, me and misha actually already passed our judgement in mod lobby yesterday or the day before. Kwaliti is supposed to pass the final verdict when he has done the mathy stuff and all that. Anyhow, I love me some good ol sketches to keep me going. ;D

    I'm not sure what you mean. Would you consider DotA to not be 'distinct' or 'separate' from (regular/vanilla/classic) Warcraft 3? It is a 'modification', and in my mind, while it subsists almost entirely of in-game assets, it manages to combine them in a way unique to & from the game itself. It is it's own, new entity.

    The gameplay has been remade. By remade of course, I mean that they've structured the means of acquiring a hero easy, while also making it the only unit you have. This concept is not new. Hero Arena was around before dota was even thought of. If we continue the previous analogy. A mod, is when you skip the paintjob and starts picking out the insides of the car instead. You keep a few of the bare essentials and plug in some new power in there. Allowing the car to access new things that it wasn't built for. If you really wanna change things up. You could give it a paintjob as well.

    Although the gameplay mechanics of the heroes remain the same, the gameplay of the map is different. Thus, it's a overhauled concept. Not exactly unique, considering the other offshoots that eventually spawned this, but it's a very creative concept and adds variation to playing blizzard maps.

    Generally, while I agree it can't be said that Ujimasa "made" the Goblin Merchant model, he did model-edit the thing that Planking Wolf wants modified; thus, as the "creator" of that "resource", he should be getting permission. At least in my mind.

    I disagree. The one who made the most work on that model was blizzard and they've already given us the permission to use their stuff in their games.

    I think I'll get to the bottom of it, and now I'm constructing it's techtree. I also read yours.
    Yea, actually I have only graduated from high school recently <span style="font-size: 9px">(4 months ago)</span>, now I am waiting for my results. If everything is fine, I will be taking Graphic Design Diploma and I won't be roaming around here much anymore.

    As for current, I've actually started lifting heavy weights :)
