Yeah. That's as far as reason takes you. The rest of the path is walked with faith. But if that faith is sincere God proves himself to you. The good side is that there are many ways to walk the path.
Up until 2 years ago I was anti-religion, anti-church and I was proud to call myself an atheist, really. Then I began meditating by myself; alone in my room at night. No bible, no priests, no commitments, no formalities; just me in my dark bedroom.
I had a few mind-opening experiences, but I had to free myself of prejudice. I began reading a bit more, looking beyond institutions and thousan-year-old stories like the ones in the bible. I take what I truly feel is right but at the same time, I don't reject anything. If you look beyond the surface of all the mumbo jumbo religions talk about, you'll find that all they're saying is that one should live a life of virtue to clean one's soul from karma -or sin- and, in the end, reach a higher dimension.
That's my experience. I'm not saying Jesus saved my life from sin or that I talked to God himself. I'm also not saying you should do what I've done. I'm saying everyone has his own path and that one only needs to want to walk it.
Another great text, that's VERY different to the Bible or the Quran, is the Tao-Te-Ching by Lao Tze. You should check it out. It's really short but really complex. Also, it's pretty cheap.
