Should I be honest? I don't care about the kids & idiots that can't take the time to examine the map they're playing :'D
Just like you, I also had my reasons to finish the map. I spent a lot of time on coding it, and all the other members have put their hearts into it as well; but to try to help beginners, I put a lot of documentation, suggested items, grouped spell info, made updating recipe tooltips and other stuff. I can't hold their hands. IID was made for those who like more complex stuff.
I don't want to talk about balance :'D I worked on it, but I still wouldn't dare to say it's anywhere close to being balanced out perfectly. But there no longer are ridiculously broken heroes/spells, so it's somewhat playable now IMO.
Well, I do have a "spawn" command to spawn a hero for the enemy, standing still. I often needed a test dummy as well :'D But that's all I have. I've never written an AI before, so I'm kinda afraid of writing one (mostly because I don't know how efficient it'd be). But I might give it a try in the future - for now, I've got something better to write for the map.
You are talented and take your time testing the entries. I also don't think you're biased or anything. There shouldn't be a problem. But if someone wants to bitch about them, you can always tell them to review all the entries and compare them with yours.
Hmm, if I'm arrogant it's mainly because I'm quite often moody, I quite often get angry because of irrelevant things, and if that happens, I'm a jerk. I know it's bad, but I just... can't do anything against it. I usually try to moderate myself, but I'm not always able to.
If WC4 happens to come out, I'd definitely like to team up with some of the talented guys I got to know on hive, so yea, maybe we could make a map together (and with that crazy Russian who your avatar made).
I agree with you on "2" and "3" (and on "1" as well, but for me, that equals to "having fun"). I learned A LOT from other people's resources, and I also learned a lot of algorithms and a lot about programming in general. I don't usually release the code I write though, because:
1) I don't think they're good enough;
2) There are too many people around who can't do anything but complain about everything;
3) I'm a selfish idiot.
I don't know if I recall FlamePhoenix though. Is he the guy with the palm on his avatar and an eye in the middle of it? If so, then yea, I know he was talented, though unfortunately I was way too young when WC3C was popular, I didn't speak English, and I didn't have an e-net connection either. It makes me so sad that I could only join the WC3 community in its last years...
EDIT: now that's what I call a wall-of-text. Heck, it's way to high to call it a "wall", it's a "tower" already.
