Dark Souls requires you to accept the fact that you're going to die in the game - once you've accepted that, you'll understand the game. The game is very retro in my opinion - its all about learning how enemies attack, how traps work, and countering them - this is a game that requires more mental work than physical work.
Once you've beaten a boss, the sense of accomplishment is incredible. It pays off that you kept trying, working, even when you've died multiple times against it.

I have put probably 20-30 hours into the game already, and considering it was released in the states on the 4th, I've made some good progress. (then again, I put in roughly 400 hours into Demon's Souls.)
If you like retro or dungeon crawling games, Dark Souls is a must buy.
If you do buy it and need any help with any of the bosses, I can offer tips.
