Farmers aren't doing too hot currently either. Between corporations such as Monsanto, increasing populations, and erratic climates they're struggling. Plantation owners, the welathy ones, are fine.

An education is a means of opening doors (creating opportunities). That's the primary agenda in the US which is ironic, as all of the policies put into place limit those opportunities. Those 'bills' are allowed to pass by the public because the public doesn't understand what's actually occuring, or are so conviced that they will one day 'be there' that they'll support the very actions binding them down.

The main problem is that everything's about profit, or capitalism. It's a system of taking and giving, mostly taking. It turns everything into a commodity, which can be exploited.

Most americans are uneducated because they're not informed. It's not just the fault of the current power. The public/private school systems are all about production and profit; business.

Which is probably why americans may appear to excel at business. I don't see it though.

I think I see where you may be missing my point. Education does consist of knowledge, but knowledge is useless unless you know how to apply it, or wisdom. Education is and isn't as necessary for business as you're making it. It takes knowledge for those controlling the economy to maintain it, yes, but we 'participators' are also responsible for letting it run.

As for value, education is the most valuable thing you can have. It doesn't consist of some degree or diploma either. Degrees and Diplomas only signify that you can successfully jump through someone's hoops. The only purpose for the universities is to serve as verification that you know what you're doing. They're little more than a means to an end, albeit an expensive one.

Now I kind of follow you. I don't agree with you, but I think I understand where you're coming from. :
The American people are used to run the American economy. We aren't encouraged to save, but to spend. Not on education, but on toys and guns.

In regards to the average person's desires, most of them do want better living conditions. That doesn't mean a mansion by any means. Most of the people I've intereacted with would be happy with an upper middle class lifestyle. A mansion would be cool.

The american people do not run the US. They think voting once every 4 years is all the democracy needed. If the american people were actually aware/concious (educated) then they would realise that the stock market is little more than a casino. The people on top are responsible for 'keeping the flock in line' yes, but the greed of these 'shepards' is a source of the problems we currently see. The average person doesn't want to be rich or own a mansion. It's be nice, but most people just want to be able work a job that won't kill them and earn a wage which allows them to do some of the things they want.
