Farmers aren't doing too hot currently either. Between corporations such as Monsanto, increasing populations, and erratic climates they're struggling. Plantation owners, the welathy ones, are fine.
An education is a means of opening doors (creating opportunities). That's the primary agenda in the US which is ironic, as all of the policies put into place limit those opportunities. Those 'bills' are allowed to pass by the public because the public doesn't understand what's actually occuring, or are so conviced that they will one day 'be there' that they'll support the very actions binding them down.
