  • Hello there,

I read your thread about randomly generated terrain. Are you just testing it out or are you actually working on a project? :)
Really? Damn, there must be some way of resetting it though :/
For example, isn't it possible to implement terrain deformations via triggers? If so, isn't Smooth one of these deformations?
Possibly, it will be a hard choice. You could also try and come up with a way to reset the terrain to a completely flat surface before randomizing it.
    Haha tyty ^^

There must be a work around, surely! Hope there is
I think you'd need to store unit and building locations, anyway, although that would be a possibility, wouldn't it?
If that IS possible, then might I reccomend using dummy buildings to act as your rivers and such?
Well, rivers created by doodads should work fine, especially if you're not going to allow water pathability. Hopefully it works out, sounds like a really awesome idea =D
I wonder how a random terrain generator would go with my map Ă–
Ah, these systems sound cool =D
Look forward to seeing them come into play Ă–
Although I do wonder how you will accomplish this storing randomly generated terrain idea effectively (i.e. without lagging Warcraft 3 out).

Little off-topic, started playing Dark Reign again recently. I reckon I might have to recreate that game for funsies some time :p
That actually sounds amazingly revolutionary and perplexingly complex. Sweet as!
I wonder if there are any deceptively simple additions we can also make that would make the gameplay amazingly different.
For example, will you only be controlling the one Caveman, or will it switch to RTS at all?
Or perhaps ai controlled cavemen could be a feature even? :p
i guess i'm a veteran lurker, hehe... i never did anything notable, though, don't see why anybody would remember me
EDIT: besides my awesome avatar, that is
Cavemen ARE pretty cool, but only a survival game? Making it Cavemen alone won't make it unique, we must devise NEW ways of gameplay!
For instance, a minor development could be implementing a FPS/RPG camera perspective. This is simply a suggestion, and a very minor development as far as minor developments go, but nonetheless, it would be pretty cool to have it cater to a FPS/RPG camera perspective.
But what differnces are you thinking of making in terms of the gameplay?
Well, so long as we keep it as you are developing it to be, I reckon it should come out very nicely =D

Incidentally, for additions to the morale system, you know how you wanted to set it that the civilization of the player progressed as game years went by? Perhaps you could make it that after so many years, the morale of all your soldiers increases by a certain amount, as a way of saying that you've lead them for so long, so now they are much more content to serve you.

Also, there could perhaps be certain armor items that boost morale a small amount, too, like a shield bearing a symbol for courage. It could be a sort of secondary effect that you might want over a little bit of extra armour just to ensure that you last longer in battle or something.
    Long time no talk lol

Looks like we'll need to discuss some of the systems we're implementing in the FoK mod, namely the morale system. Illidan(Evil)X graciously showed me the code to access the squads, the trouble is the trigger that you requested for the morale system is kind of... well, it's kind of gay. I'm thinking that perhaps morale could be used differently, or kicked altogether even (as that would allow for us to use the mana stat for something else, such as encumberment). However, I think that morale should still be a factor, just used in a different manner to how you wanted initially :p
Hello, it's Deon from bay12 :p. I will send you a model to fix soon if you don't mind. Add me to friends.
As for ranged units, I was personally thinking of hard coding it. And Auto-castable animal form ability would not be advisable on account of the squad system. The system itself means that if one unit in the squad is ordered to use an ability, everyone else in the squad will be too. That would result in units reverting to their melee forms before they even ran out of ammunition :/

I would advise simply using a GUI 'replace unit' command, which would be quick, effective and it wouldn't have any issues with the squad system at all =)
Well, having both tiredness and morale could get a little complex, although it is possible. But I personally think that tiredness shouldn't be a factor purely because if it was the same as morale, you could lose entire armies just by moving them too far.

As for morale setting them to neutral and making them run away, I do like that idea, the only problem is that I'm not too sure how to reference the squad the unit is in as of yet :/
Also, it would be kind of irritating to lose your army before the enemy actually finished you off, so it may be good to leave morale out of the picture for now until we can think of a good way to implement it.

And I'm glad you like my brainstorming ideas :3
Did you check out the map? I personally loved the use of dummy items, as I've seen it before and it has a very professional look about it :3
Okay cool, I've added you on msn now with a short message saying 'Smee, Wazzz' ;)

I will do check out your thread and post a comment, just going to read through what's there first so I'm up to date on it. From your first post (which is all I've read aside from the name ideas), it sounds like a very nice project indeed, and I would be honoured to help get it up and running =)
    That's awesome =D
When possible, I would like to see a demonstration of your work, please ;)

Now, as for your project, what would you like me to do for it? Also, what project is it?

Incidentally, the weekend thing should not be a problem at all, as when I return to uni sometime in March, I shall find my weeks to be relatively full with study and pool :p

    See ya around ;)

EDIT: I just saw a couple of your models via your rep points, and I like what I see =D
Okay, so just tell me what you want done for your project and what your project is all about, and I'll see what I can do ;)
Incidentally, if you have an msn account, we should add each other to simplify communications :p
