Is it? I don't think GUI spells are MUI by themselves; you have to use Hashtables. Anyway, it doesn't really matter since the spell cannot be cast by 2 units at the same time anyway. In my map, at least.
By variables you meant
integer, boolean, string, effect, real, etc?
You just have to declare the variable type and use it.
For some other variables they leak, so you have to null or remove them
