I think resolving whole cards separately is preferable to resolving pieces of different cards at the same time, since that's how players will expect it to work.
My understanding is the game is sort of like War, where nobody really takes turns but both players play cards together (in pairs). If you're worried that one card being played before the other won't be fair, there are a few things I can think of that you could do:

1) Alternate which player's card is resolved first from turn to turn, so who has the "advantage" (if it matters) switches back and forth.
2) Have whichever player has lower health on a given turn resolve their card first, so the "advantage" always benefits the person who is behind.
3) Wait to resolve state-based effects (such as a player losing for having 0 or less health) until both players' cards have resolved. This way if the 2nd player's card heals them back above 0 they survive another turn, etc.

4) One other option - You could introduce a new mechanic called "Initiative" or something which causes the player with the Initiative to resolve their card first. You take Initiative if you deal damage to the other player, and you lose Initiative if the other player takes it from you. (This would also mean that if we both play damaging cards on the same turn, the player with the Initiative goes first, then the other player goes and takes Initiative from them. This would give players an even greater incentive to play damaging cards since it would have the added bonus of giving them Initiative.)

hey, thanks for the replies, I will certainly look into these solutions, probably better also program wise, as I had to make quite a mess out of it. I will try to make initiative with lowest health first, maybe later with damage dealt option.
