It's because their defences were land concentrated, they weren't expecting gian tentacles to pop up out of the water.

I think it is shallow, as you can see ice tiles beneath. Don't know. Try with the other type and see :?
Perhaps change water colors, too.

P.S. I really like the tentacles. xD But make them attack or something.
